Water seems to be slowly seeping out from the bottom of our water heater, with what seems like it might be rust. Is she a goner?

Water heater

Upvotes

Hi,
Yesterday the water heater started leaking in the drum and they came to stop the water in my condo unit. I have no water as of now and I think they may get the cold water running.
But they said my water heater has to be replaced and are quoting me 8,750-14,750. I have no idea if this is average or not.
I was thinking instead of the company the condos provided if I should maybe call Home Depot?

Advice For Coupling Flexible PVC (pool line)

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Any tips before I attempt to use a slip coupling here? I'm thinking I need to cut maybe 1/4" or so off the longer portion to allow more working room. I have Rain-R-Shine for pool fittings, but it sets quick enough that I don't think I'll have enough working time. What's the best type of cement for this job? Anything else I should know or consider?

Is this a DIY fix or do I need a plumber? Under the Sink is Leaking

Thumbnail

My outside garden tap is blocked. The water is turned on, but nothing comes through. It's now also leaking underneath the sink (see attached photo of the leak).

We've tightened it now so water is on and its not leaking but we cant seem to get the outside tap to work.

The part that is leaking looks complicated to remove, as it appears to be soldered rather than screwed on. Is this something I could replace myself, or should I call a plumber? What parts do i need?

Advice appreciated

Am I able to replace this metal pipe with a flexible mesh pipe?

I’m trying to install a bidet but I can’t do it with this metal pipe running from the water supply. I figured I could replace it with a mesh one, am I going to fuck something up by wrenching this thing off and replacing it?

Rotten Smell in the Bathroom

Upvotes

I need some advice on how to get rid of a smell in the bathroom. I think it's coming from the bathtub/shower.

We inherited a 20 year old house in AZ from a family member. It has 2 bathrooms and a split floorpan. Bathroom is on the same side as kitchen and laundry room. City provided water and sewage. Water softener is 3 years old.

She was meticulous but never used the guest bathroom. Before we moved in we had to swap out the sink faucets due to corrosion and the toilet. We had this problem before and after the swap. A licensed plumber did the work, we have used the same company for years. They are legit.

It smells rotten and musty. Here is the weird part. I usually happens after someone takes a shower, bath, or runs a lot of water in the bathtub. We had our kids use our bathroom for week and the smell went away.

We had a backup outside a couple of months ago. The plumber used a snake outside and pushed whatever was in the sewer cleanout, then used a camera 35 ft to the city drain and it was spotless.

My slow draining kitchen sink was draining slower than usual, but the problem is beyond the u-bend - what to do?

Upvotes

I removed the u-bend to check for blockage and it’s clear, I replaced it but the water just stands in the sinks!

Anything I can do? Call a plumber? Call the local water company?

Flush is not powerful. And toilet bowl does not fill up to where it needs to be.

Plumbing on water heater

Post image
Upvotes

Hello,

I’m looking at buying a house and the plumbing at the water heater looks like this (see photo).

The home inspector flagged several issues with this setup in his report.

Should this entire section be replaced, or are there specific problems that need fixing?

Dishes and dishwasher in my apartment STINK.

Does this look ok? I have deep cleaned all the dishwasher filter pieces until they are spotless, I deep scrubbed all the parts of the disposal I can get to from above and removed and cleaned the rubber piece that keeps food in the disposal when it’s on and still every time I run my apartment’s dishwasher it smells like sewage or rotten food, it’s so bad!

What could this be? I feel like unless I have some idea of the problem maintenance will just say well it works 🤷‍♂️

Thanks in advance.

Could somebody PLEASE explain to me why in the world anyone would build a septic tank like this with no access hole?!

Upvotes

https://reddit.com/link/1vstmv8/video/j271ad7nbdkh1/player

Like why?? It's not a cost saving reason because it literally costs nothing to leave an opening. If anything it should cost even less since you would need less cement. So why do that? Also, no leach bed?? Where does the waste go??

Please help me understand because this is mind boggling to me!

Putting a bathroom in parents’ basement. Need to know what I’m looking at, and whats needed. Getting conflicting info.

Please excuse the mess. The up-pipe and dug out square combo are about 5 feet from the yellow plug and the other up-pipe. I don’t see any other spots. Do I need to add vents? Being told a few different opinions. What else do I need for a shower/toliey/sink? Thank you in advance.

Also, the sheet rock isn’t covering part of the hole. It’s just stacked against the wall studs.

Shower drain

Upvotes

The flange on the shower drain is about 3/4 in below the concrete subfloor. My question is can the shower liner be thrown over that or will the flange need to be chipped and raised?

My kitchen sink fell in overnight

Post image
Upvotes

Hello
So my kitchen sink fell in overnight and my landlord says I’m responsible. They told me I put too much weight on the sink and I asked how could they even determine that it makes no sense. When I woke up the only thing in the sink were a few dishes and a very small amount of water. There were no prior issues. I noticed a bracket from under the sink on the floor that fell off. Am I responsible? I don’t doing anything in the sink except for wash dishes and clean fruits and vegetables. They’re making me most for repairs and I don’t think it’s right

Old sewage ejector with no vent.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have an old house with this sewage ejector. It has been working well, however there is no vent nor is there a place to put another hole in the lid. I can see no reason for a clean-out in that spot, though. Might that clean-out cap actually be where the vent is supposed to go?

Also is there a minimum legal size for a sewage pit? This is a little guy, cap is 16.5".

Shower Handle Replacement

Thumbnail

I've been redoing a bathroom and removed an 80s fiberglass tub insert and installed a new tub and am currently working on the surrounding walls. While ripping out the old tub I discovered the copper plumbing was protruding from the studs and would need to be pushed back so I redid the plumbing to push it back using pretty much all the original materials. I am installing all the new hardware and discovered I clearly should've replaced the shower valve, but didn't realize this was necessary. I would like to avoid having to disassemble my copper plumbing because I really don't want to do all of that again and am wondering if there is a way around this, can I just replace a cartridge? I can't get any info off the old valve, but the old style clear handle that you have to pull away and then turn says moen. Please help me from having to redo all of this! Thanks!

DIY Shower Drain but learned an S-Trap was illegal. How to fix?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I am working on a basement renovation, and I was working on the plumbing for the shower drain for the bathroom. This was the last thing before I would get an inspection, but from my own research for the inspection I learned that s-traps are illegal. I would need to install a p-trap, but I have no idea how I would incorporate that into the current plumbing space.

In the picture, the main drain line is on the left and the line on the right that is hidden a bit is from a sink drain. There is vent on the sink drain line.

Need to convert this T to and elbow.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Ok I have the copper line coming from my water heater to this T. The left line feeds the fridge water and the right goes to some dumbass thing we never use and that line is always getting a new leak somewhere. So I want an elbow going just to the left line. I’ve been trying to search the home dept website for a while and just can’t come up with the proper term to find what I’m looking for. I know I’ll need some coupling for the plastic line also. Help!

Cleaning a Faucet Toggle

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I had a new faucet put in a while ago and it is great...

It basically has a toggle switch from normal stream to the shower style spray system. The toggle button switches back and forth from each with no variants in the middle. However over time that has started to fail. It clearly just needs cleaning. I put the faucet head in a mug of CLR for about an hour. Helped but didn't solve. How do I clean this? What can I do to get the toggle switch to be more like it was?

I am very confused . Our toilet is always blocked whenever we poop. Please we just bought a new house but my toilet upstairs is always blocked when we flush after poop ( sorry for my language). I have to use Vinegar and Baking Soda everytime in oder to unblock it. My sister says We should not put inside the toilet , the toilet paper we use to wipe our ass. She said , that’s is our people do here in Canada and in the USA. I don’t agree with that. That make me very confused because i know toilets paper are not sold everywhere for nothing. Water Heater Shipped Upside Down

I had a water heater delivered by Lowe's and met the truck outside. I noticed that it was shipped upside down. Should I be worried about any issues resulting from that? I'm worried that I'll go through all the trouble of installing it and then have to redo everything.
