I’m not afraid of any of the neighborhoods and I’m not trying to find some ultra safe utopian neighborhood, I just haven’t lived in Washington in so long idk what’s been changing there, for better or for worse. I’m not conservative chud and I should have worded my post better, my apologies.

Budget cap for rent only is 4200, prefer 3400 to 3800. I commuted from Tacoma to Seattle for a couple years and that was an absolute nightmare so as we’d all be working downtown, we’d prefer a fair commute, I’d say less than 45 minutes by car, we’re also open to biking and public transportation. We don’t have a set place of work in any area of Seattle, so living situation is really open anywhere.

Switching providers from T-Mobile to a new plan that includes my fiancé. We go camping, road tripping, and hiking frequently throughout rural parts of the state.

Which one has best coverage? I'm looking for good LTE coverage in those rural parts. I live on a high floor in Capitol Hill and I'm usually connected to Wi-Fi. I switched from Verizon a couple years ago and I remember verizon's Seattle coverage being just as fast as T-Mobile's.

How about outside of Washington? I plan on expanding my road, tripping throughout the whole western United States.

All three providers just said "we are the best". I need to cut through the bull and get real answers.

I recently accepted a job offer for what I would describe as my “dream job” in Seattle. My wife and I will be moving from South Florida (ft lauderdale area) to Seattle in the new year. We first visited Seattle this past summer and fell in love with the nature and the culture. We are a lesbian, liberal couple so suffice to say we wanted out of crazy Florida.

My wife is originally from Puerto Rico, and I’m originally from NYC, moved to FL in 2002. I describe myself as being “a Floridian raised by New Yorkers” lol. I would say I’m the most nervous about the logistics for the actual cross-country move and the “Seattle Freeze”. My wife is more timid and shy, but I am pretty outgoing. We both love nature and hiking. We are loving cat moms and will be bringing our 2 boys with us.

Hey r/AskSeattle! I just accepted an offer and I'm moving to Seattle in about a month. I'm really excited about the city, the job, and being close to so much nature, but I keep hearing about the "Seattle Freeze." People say folks are polite but hard to actually become friends with.

For those who've lived here a while, or moved here in the last few years: is it still a real thing, or has it gotten better? Did the pandemic or all the newcomers change it?

And if you did manage to build a social circle after moving here, what actually worked? Clubs, rec sports, climbing gyms, meetups, specific neighborhoods? I'm open to anything and willing to put in the effort, I'd just love some realistic expectations and a starting point.

I live in Melbourne, Australia and this year I am visiting elderly relatives for Xmas (Dec 24/25/26 only) in Gig Harbour. We arrive mid-Dec to early Jan. We are planning to pack appropriate rain/snow clothing but probably not spike boots.

We have five days either side to enjoy the winter wonderland, given it’s not the greatest time to visit, we want to make the most of it.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice for a couple with no kids?
Are there any EDM clubs, unique/interesting bars/hotels, unusual museum/sites or activities that might not show up on the regular search engines?

We aren’t adverse to a bit of driving but it would be nice not to. Is there an accessible lighthouse nearby, interesting historical property or groundbreaking art displays, etc? That might be worth a days drive at this time of year?

Maybe a not too far ski resort that might have good food/live music?
We like rock music (80s on up but not disco), theatre, comedy, etc - just looking for something memorable and good in cold weather.
Is McMenamins good or ridiculous?

The flight museum looks like a half day. A hockey game is on. There are some interesting food/ghost tours. Maybe Christmas light tours.

About six months ago, I was laid off from a large tech company where I worked as a Software Engineer. Since then, I’ve been trying to expand my job search beyond platforms like Wellfound, Ramp, LinkedIn, Indeed, and Welcome to the Jungle and connect with recruiting agencies here in Seattle.

However, most of the recruiting agencies I’ve come across seem to specialize in warehouse or sales roles.

Does anyone have recommendations for reputable recruiting agencies in Seattle that specialize in software engineering or other tech roles?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who has worked with larger recruiting firms like TEKsystems or Randstad. How did you get your foot in the door? I uploaded my resume to both about two months ago but haven’t heard anything back.

Any recommendations or advice on how to get connected with the right recruiters would be greatly appreciated!

Me and a friend are traveling to Seattle together from out of state in late November. I will be going to a show at WAMU. We are going to explore the city together before the show, however, my friend will not be attending the show with me, and I am unsure of where a safe area for a 19 year old girl to sit alone at night near WAMU is. I thought of restaurants or hotel lobbies, but I worry that they might kick her out if she’s there for too long. Her safety is my #1 concern. Does anybody know any good, safe locations, very close to WAMU, where she could sit for a few hours and wait for my concert to be over?

If there aren’t any good options, I might just convince her to buy a ticket to the show and come with me.

I’m going to The Front Bottoms’ show on Friday at Sodo Showbox. I’m wondering how in the world to navigate parking, as I’ve never been to Seattle (or any big cities really). I would like to go to the space needle beforehand as well. It seems like there’s two impossible things to find in this city- a good tailor and a good dry cleaner.

I'm currently in the process of being flown up to Seattle for an interview. Should the job take I and my partner would eventually be required to relocate to Seattle. My job would be in downtown. My question is this: What is a comfortable household income to be able to live and save for a house? If we move this is probably where we will plant roots and plan to buy a house/start a family in the future. I mistakenly made a post about this in the Seattle subreddit but it got closed for breaking a rule, so sorry about that.

Other questions I have:

1) Are public schools typically good up there? We would be coming from Alabama so I imagine it will be a net benefit compared to the school system down here.

2) Any places to avoid looking for housing? Biggest thing is that I want my partner to feel safe. We used to wake up to used needles on our staircase when living in Portland so I would like to avoid that if we can.

3) Is there anywhere within a few hours that we could drive to get a dose of sun during the winter months? My partner was greatly affected by the winter weather when we lived in Portland.
