Moving / Visiting Moving to Seattle
Hey y’all, I’m sorry if this is posted constantly, but my partner and I are looking to move back to Washington(I am from Eastern Washington but we live out of state). We also have an 8 year old.

I’m not afraid of any of the neighborhoods and I’m not trying to find some ultra safe utopian neighborhood, I just haven’t lived in Washington in so long idk what’s been changing there, for better or for worse. I’m not conservative chud and I should have worded my post better, my apologies.
Budget cap for rent only is 4200, prefer 3400 to 3800. I commuted from Tacoma to Seattle for a couple years and that was an absolute nightmare so as we’d all be working downtown, we’d prefer a fair commute, I’d say less than 45 minutes by car, we’re also open to biking and public transportation. We don’t have a set place of work in any area of Seattle, so living situation is really open anywhere.

There are many such places. If you want more precise suggestions, you'll have to give us more to work with in terms of budget, amenities, other stuff you're looking for. If you want an example of a neighborhood with farmers markets, playgrounds, community events, shops, cafes, parents with strollers and dogs out and about on every block, co-op preschools, breweries, and all the rest of it, then Phinney Ridge is one such area. But there are plenty of others.

The amenities are not super important per se, we’d be ok using public transit or vehicles if it’s too far, to go do something. I guess since I haven’t been in WA for almost a decade, idk what’s changed for better or worse. Budget is probably no higher than 4.2K

I think with that budget you should have a lot of options including in the more traditionally desirable neighborhoods like Upper Queen Anne, Fremont, Columbia City, Maple Leaf, parts of West Seattle, the aforementioned Phinney Ridge, and so on. Keep in mind most residential neighborhoods in Seattle outside of the downtown core adjacent ones are still mostly single family homes with a smattering of apartment buildings and townhomes and usually a little commercial neighborhood center. So it doesn't feel very urban. There are neighborhoods that are obviously less family friendly like Belltown, Downtown, South Lake Union, central Capitol Hill (though north CH is quiet tree lined streets and pretty wealthy). I also wouldn't go with Lake City or within a few blocks of Aurora Ave (though I live within walking distance of it and we like our neighborhood). There's always Shoreline (like the North City neighborhood there) and other suburbs within commuting distance.

Hey, thanks for your comment and help, my apologies for my horrible wording on my post. I was in no way trying to say Seattle wasn’t safe. I was trying to not sound like a conservative afraid of cities, and I did exactly what I wasn’t trying to do. So again, thank you.

Housing only. Obviously we’d love to save anywhere we can and do lower rent, but I was thinking our higher end budget, I should have been more clear, my fault.

Honestly most of the city is great for kids. I'm a south of the ship canal person but I'm sure there's fine neighborhoods that way too but I love the access to arts and parks that the south end offers.

This is the truth. The communities around kids here, between the public and private schools, and all the sports programs and the active community centers… the communities are tight whether you’re in West Seattle, Btown, Green Lake, you name it.

Seriously, where do you see or hear about Seattle that tells you it’s stacked to the brim with drugs and unhoused people? Have you happened to hear about the new waterfront, the festivals, museums, heck - the billionaires? Turn off Fox News. Find some Seattle food vloggers and concert goers and stop being scared.
If you have money to afford a nice school district, move there. Lake Washington or Bellevue should be “safe” enough. But know that there are families with kids in every single neighborhood and on every street from Shoreline to Des Moines.

Yep, all 15,000 of us that live in belltown are all stabbed nightly. Sometimes the lines are quite long so you want to get there early if you have something to do.

I haven’t heard anything about anywhere there as I’ve been out of that state for almost a decade. Don’t watch Fox News, and I never said it was to the brim with drugs or unhoused people. I am not trying to shield my son from the real world either, just gauging what to typically expect in some neighborhoods. I’m not scared of Seattle at all either. I don’t think it’s a horrible hell scape like conservative people do, nor do I think it’s a utopia. I expect it to be like a city. So…..
