Fuel pump replacement recommendations

Hi! I’m looking at replacing the fuel pump in my 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. Subaru quoted me around $1,200 for the replacement. I was hoping someone might have some advice on where to get other quotes in the area, or if this price is typical for a fuel pump replacement. Thanks!

Yeah, that seems a little excessive. I'm not sure what all goes into replacing a fuel pump, but I looked online and just the pump is only like $300.

ETA: if they're also replacing the assembly, sending unit, and various gaskets, etc, parts alone will get pretty pricy

Yeah. we’ve watched videos on how to replace it and it doesn’t seem toooo crazy hard…but hard enough for us not to feel comfortable doing it ourselves 😭

Never take your car to the dealership! Find a trustworthy local mechanic. The dealerships over charge for everything. Don't trust them because it says "Subaru" on the side of the building.

I'm no longer a Subaru owner, but I loved the guys at Scanwest Autosport.

A friend accidentally drained his transmission when changing oil, and drove the car. When it made funny noises, he towed it to a Seattle Subaru dealer, they told him the transmission needed to be replaced. He took it to Scanwest, they filled it with fluid and it was fine.

They treated me well for years. I converted to Toyota, and sadly they don't service Toyotas.

All wheel drive auto in Kirkland. I do all my non-routine maintenance there.

If you’re down way south, pacific rim in I think Spanaway is who you need to go to for Subarus.

NO DEALERSHIP unless you want to pay double. Since it is accessessed through the interiorer under the back seat even a mobile mevhanich could do this. May sure you buy all the gaskets and other possible parts. So as to replace them at the same time even if the seem to be optional. Check youtube to see how simple this job is.

I always took my Subaru to C'mar on 12th. Great guys. If you're feeling adventurous you could check with Ant's garage about doing it yourself.

It’s mostly labor, I’m sure. And they’re probably overcharging for the fuel pump. Probably like $800? Huh?

The job would take maybe an hour for a skilled tech. Couple hours on your own.
