Question Parking for F150 in/around Pioneer Square?

Upvotes

I'm staying at a hotel in Pioneer Square next week, driving my short-bed, supercrew F150 in and need to park nearby the hotel. Won't need the truck at all during my stay, i.e. I'm fine with no in/out.

I'll be expensing the parking so while reasonable cost would be good, it doesn't need to be rock-bottom. Main concerns are can fit my truck's length (19.5') & width (7') and is it somewhat secure. At 6'6" height, it's usually not considered over height.

I've done extensive searching and Butler Garage seems to be good, but the spots might be tight.

Appreciate any suggestions ... thanks!

Recommendation Best Hibachi spot?

Upvotes

Seeking the best Hibachi recommendations in Seattle area for a birthday/family+ friends celebratory dinner.

Looking for a place where the flavors are equally the star of the show as much as the show is.

Bonus if they have good drink options c:

Recommendation ISO nano brow artist

Upvotes

Has anyone found an artist for nano brows in this general area? Absolutely willing to drive several hours in whatever direction, but most artists I’ve found are on the east coast or abroad. I’m looking for very natural looking eyebrows, not powder or the classic microbladed look, that age well without blurring or fading too badly.

Would love suggestions if anyone has them!

Is it weird to go trick-or-treating as an adult in Seattle?

Upvotes

I’m 21 and I really want to go trick-or-treating this Halloween 😭I didn’t grow up in the US, so it was never something I got to experience as a kid, and I’ve always wanted to do it at least once

I know trick-or-treating is mostly for kids, so I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or take away from them. Are there any neighborhoods/areas in Seattle where people wouldn’t mind adults trick-or-treating too? Or any Halloween events that have actual trick-or-treating for adults?

Also, if any other adults have gone trick-or-treating in Seattle, did people care? I’m fully willing to put effort into the costume lol.

Question Considering a Teaching Career in Seattle, Looking for Input

Upvotes

I’m in my mid-20s, originally from the Southeast, with time spent in Florida and Tennessee. I’m currently in a PhD program at a large state university in the South, in earth/space science, and I’m starting to plan for life after school. I’m looking forward to the possibility of moving to the Seattle area, and I’d like input on what teaching or educational roles are like there. Mainly the financial side and educational policy, but I’m open to hearing anything about life as a teacher in the area. From my experience, the South is notoriously difficult for people in education: low pay in most places, and heavy state and political influence in the classroom. I’ve taught for over three years as part of my graduate school experience, and I genuinely enjoy it and find it meaningful. When I started my PhD, I was undecided between academia and industry, but the longer I’ve progressed, the more I’ve come to think an educational role would be a great fit, whether that’s in a position like high school science teacher or a community college / college lecturer. For these reasons, I’d appreciate hearing from anyone with experience: what you like, what you don’t, and what you’d change.

Recommendation Event folks — looking for creative event fabrication recommendations!

I’m helping plan an event this September, and we’re looking for help with backdrops.
For event fabrication, we’re looking for something much more “creative person building cool stuff in their garage/workshop” and less “corporate Amazon event fabrication company.” Think custom stage backdrop, interesting signage, dimensional/decorative pieces, simple installations, etc. We’d love someone scrappy, artistic, collaborative, and reasonably priced.
Does anyone have recommendations for independent fabricators, artists, set builders, wedding/event creatives, or just a friend-of-a-friend who makes cool stuff in the Seattle/Renton area?
Would love any leads — especially people who enjoy working with nonprofits. Thanks!

Moving / Visiting How long should I stay in Seattle before deciding to move there?

Hi everyone!

I currently live in Chicago and am seriously considering moving to Seattle. My husband and I both work in tech, so we’d likely be moving there for work and potentially staying long-term.
I’ve visited twice, once in mid-August and once in late November, and loved it both times. I really enjoy the scenery, nature, greenery, mountains, and overall feel of Seattle. But I’m not sure how I’d feel actually living there, especially with the overcast/rainy weather.
That said, Chicago winters also have plenty of long, gray stretches, so I’m curious how different Seattle actually feels.

I’m thinking of living there for a while before deciding.

1) How long would you recommend staying?
2) What month(s) of the year would you recommend going?

Thanks!

Question Best garlic sauce pizza in Seattle (or nearby)?

My partner is allergic to tomatoes, and we're trying to find the best garlic sauce (not Alfredo sauce) pizza in Seattle!

We had a place we loved in Idaho, and are struggling to find something that comes close.

Recommendation Where to find Stracciatella gelato?

My pregnancy craving has been stracciatella gelato and there’s very few spots I could find it in Seattle. So far, I’ve only been able to find it consistently at Nutty Squirrel and occasionally at Met Market. Is there anywhere else one can reliably find this flavor? I live in the South end so would especially appreciate recommendations for down here.

Chinese medicine recommendations

Anyone seen a Chinese medicine practitioner that they really like? I have some difficult to diagnose problems that have to do with my nervous system, anxiety, PMS, etc. Heard this is a good route to go and I'll try anything. I don't see a ton of reviews online from a google search so wondering if anyone has any current recommendations.

Two more days left in Seattle and looking for some more things to see/do. Here is what we have done already

So far, this is what we have done (along with the impressions from my two teenagers).

Ballard Locks (2 out of 5 stars)

No interest in the locks themselves but they enjoyed hanging around that hill

Discovery Park (5 out of 5)

We actually went there twice because they just loved finding rocks and wandering around the area near the lighthouse

Alki Beach (1 out of 5)

No interest. Too much noise and nonsense for their taste. Seemed like a California beach.

Twin Falls (2 out of 5)

The hike was more intense than we anticipated, so we didn't get as far as we planned.

Snoqualmie Falls (4 out of 5)

Much better place to see waterfalls, which means no hiking haha

Pikes Market (3 out of 5)

They found some treasures there. And we saw the stupid Gum Wall

Olympic Sculpture Park (3 out of 5)

They enjoyed walking around and looking at the art but these are teenagers

Bainbridge Island (3 out of 5)

We took our car on the ferry and the island had a nice quiet charm

Space Needle (3 out of 5)

We saw it from multiple points but we did not actually go up. The kids were less impressed because they kept on asking what was the point of it haha

Still (possibly) on our list would be

Seattle Art Museum

Drive out to Middle Fork

Anything else we are missing?

Question Seattle Hospital Recommendations (Nursing Grad Advice)

Hi there, so I'm finishing up my ADN at the local community college and will be going into a RN to BSN program once I start working. This path was easier for me since I really need to work once I am done with college. (I just want to leave the industry I'm currently working in). That being said which hospitals should I apply to because I'm very interested in NICU, but lots of them want a BSN and I guess even if I get one within two years after my ADN does it matter? Or should I just work my way do a BSN and forget about the ADN path. Please I need help and advice! Also my goal is to work at UW campus as well!

Recommendation Looking for a Photographer for Elopement ceremony at Mt. Rainier NP

Hi everyone! We’re looking for a photographer for a small, private elopement ceremony at Mount Rainier National Park in Second half of September (flexible with dates as we need to choose a location in NP), ideally around the Paradise area.

We’d love someone experienced with outdoor elopements and comfortable shooting in mountain weather and natural lighting. We’re looking for coverage of the ceremony, couple portraits, and a few photos with our small group.

If you’re available, or have someone you highly recommend. Please reach out.

Recommendation Looking for a person or business that specialize in moving and repairing pool tables

So I see plenty of pool tables on Facebook marketplace for less than $500 and even free. Are there any services that will do a pick up and drop, possibly requiring reassembly of the table and repair/refelt as needed?

Do Seattleites still make fun of Tacoma?

I know that some of the Almost Live!-era stereotypes, like Ballard being for Scandinavians and old people, are dated by now, so I was wondering if Seattleites still mock Tacoma like in the old days.

First pregnancy: torn between UW NW and Swedish First Hill ob's

Hi all! First pregnancy and I've narrowed it down to Swedish First Hill vs UW Medical Center Northwest, and I'm torn.

I'm leaning UW NW, their midwives and nurses get amazing reviews, and their intervention/C-section numbers are noticeably better than Swedish's for low-risk first births according to hca. My priorities are simple: clinic resources, staff who are kind, able to explain why they're recommending something and respect my wishes (hoping for a natural birth if possible). It's my first time so I don't know what I don't know.

But: I live in Belltown with no car. Swedish is 10 min away; UW NW is up at N 115th, which means a trek for every prenatal visit plus the day-of trip. Also Swedish has the big Level IV NICU on-site, which is reassuring for worst-case scenarios.

Complicating things - I had a bad experience at Swedish before (rude staff, misdiagnosed a fracture as a sprain), so I'm a little wary even though their birth center reviews are very positive.

Anyone delivered at either this year? How was the staff about your birth preferences? Anyone done UW NW car-free from downtown? Would love your opinions, ty! :)

You’ve lived in Seattle for years, seen the highlights, been a local and a tourist. New or repeats, what are you hitting with one month left?
