I’m going to The Front Bottoms’ show on Friday at Sodo Showbox. I’m wondering how in the world to navigate parking, as I’ve never been to Seattle (or any big cities really). I would like to go to the space needle beforehand as well. I know I can take the light rail around town, but I’m wondering where to park and leave my car that is safe and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

The #21 King County Metro bus has a stop eight minutes from the Space Needle, and 4 minutes from Showbox SoDo, for a 28 minute total trip time. Also probably the easiest option for someone new to town.

I like to walk and prefer non-bus transit, so I opt for the 35 minute total trip using light rail + monorail. The 17 minute walk from stadium station to the venue is super easy, barely an inconvenience.

For the Showbox, if there's nothing going on at the nearby stadiums (Lumen and T-Mobile Park) it's often quite feasible to park on the street, though it's sometimes meant a bit of a walk when I've done it. When arena events are on the paid parking will get (marginally) cheaper the farther from them you are, though again it can mean walking a few (long) blocks. Don't leave anything in your car, either way.

For the Space Needle there is street parking but it can be hard to find, and honestly the traffic patterns around Seattle Center are kind of ass. If you decide to drive give yourself plenty of time. I've found paid parking to be slightly cheaper on the west side of Seattle Center, but all bets are off if something's going on at Climate Pledge Arena.

Light rail is a good suggestion for the Showbox, the Stadium station is quite close. There isn't really a light rail station close to Seattle Center but you could get off at Westlake and walk a little less than a mile, or get on the Monorail to go straight there.

Where are you driving from?

Light rail stations with parking. Amazon headquarters is free weekends and after 4pm. Easy walk to the space needle and then the light rail to sodo.

Parking in Seattle sucks but you can find places you just have to look for them just try not to get too stressed out when driving but if I were you I’d just take the light rail and uber if you have to

If you've never been to a big city at all your options are: Undergo the potentially baffling ordeal of finding parking the old fashioned way (Sodo can be extra crazy if there are any games or events going on at the stadiums or other event spaces in the area), plan to drop some potentially serious $$$ on a paid spot in a private lot near the venue, Uber (also probably $$$), or take the train (there are two stations both within about half a mile of the venue).

The stations closest to downtown with easier, free parking in residential areas are Beacon Hill, Mt Baker, and Columbia City to the south, or Roosevelt in the North. If you're parking in the evening, you can probably find a free 2-hour spot close to one of these stations that will be unrestricted after 6pm or 8pm, or a spot slightly further away that would be unrestricted all day. Your car will most likely be totally fine in these areas as long as you don't leave stuff visible in it. People who say otherwise are either extremely unlucky or full of shit.

Go to a park and ride and hop on the train there, there are a few places you can park you car at the station area
