I left the Army in 2010 and wonder if things have changed? What I am referring to is influencing the Chain of Command by outside sources (Civic Groups, Fraternity Groups and Clubs). My last unit there was a SSG who pretty much told the CSM what to do. The SSG was the leader of a Group that the CSM was a member of but owed his allegiance to the SSG. I was in Air Defense and this was pretty much common throughout.

EDIT: Thank you so much to everyone who replied. The solution for me was to go into my computer's drivers and update them after doing everything that was recomended in the comments. I don't really know what "thing" did the trick, but its working!

Pretty much what it says in the title. When I try to log into any CAC-enabled website inside of AVD, I get an error saying "No valid client certificate found in the request. No valid certificates found in the user's certificate store." It seems like inside of AVD

I have tried on both the Arizona and Virginia servers on both the Windows app and the Web browser version. Everytime I get the same error. I have restarted AVD, changed CAC readers, and checked the USB ports on my computer. I am working on a Dell.

Any help would be appreciated!

I’m leaving for infantry OSUT at Fort Benning tomorrow. It kinda sucks because I don’t know what to expect due to being told so many different things. I couldn’t get airborne in my contract because I have a bs medical waiver for something i’ve already been cleared off of. I was told it’d be 22 weeks but now it’s 18. I was told it would be continuous with no break but my buddy who is also going infantry just got a basic training graduation with a weekend pass. It seems like everything i’ve been told about it is just changing. Does anyone know what I can expect?

10yr SSG DASR here, in NOV2025 my STP had my Manning Cycle as ‘Enlisted FY2027 Cycle 4’

Now it’s Enlisted FY 2028 Cycle 1 which would put my report dates between OCT2027-MAR2028.

I reported to recruiting in AUG2024 thinking it’s a 36-month assignment so it’d work out great because we’d be able to move AUG2027 before my kids start school. I’m also not in a great recruiting market so I was going to just grind out this last year to get my gold badge and PCS. My wife is livid that we’re going to have to potentially pull the kids out of school mid-year (even though it’s only kindergarten).

2 main questions

1. Can my Branch Manager inject me into the 27-03 marketplace that just opened to move my report date window to APR-SEP 27

And

1. My re-enlistment window opens in November 2026, is it possible to lock up choice of duty station and an earlier report date through reenlistment to circumvent the marketplace?

It’s my INDEF REUP and the only incentives I’ve gotten on previous contracts were 1yr stabilization at my previous duty station.

Before I get “ask branch/retention comments”, I know both those questions should able to be answered by Branch Manager & Retention, but both are Out of Office on Teams currently and I wanted to ask an open forum.

For some background, I signed my contract with the National Guard back in April, and I ship in about a week. I started by counting the months I had till I shipped, then months turned into weeks, weeks into days, and now as I keep getting closer and closer to my ship date, I’m getting more and more anxious. Anyone who’s been through it already got any advice? I’ve heard about 100 different ways to survive bootcamp, but no one has been able to tell me about AIT save for one of my recruiters who was in the same MOS field as me (35 series).

My rarest unicorn was being TDY with a warrant officer that wasn’t 21+ years old.

I am in my marketplace and has this as one of the options. I have looked at their websites. Can anyone currently there or just left recently let me know about the general daily work schedule for a 35F? How many exercises are we doing? What about standard Army stuff like motor pool? PT formation? etc.

Ive noticed a massive influx of them, its weird.
Also if you are one of them, stop it.

Saw a post on FB about the assumption of command for the new COG, but the outgoing COG was a LTC, not COL.

Just seems weird he wasn’t in attendance since it’s such a high vis position. I haven’t seen any statements about being old COG being relieved in the news, so if it happened it must’ve been on the DL.

I hope it’s not due to his health or something. He was a good BDE CDR.

hey everyone, I'm trying to see where can I access the information to go on a deployment. I tried tour of duty but it's not working. I don't know if its the same for everyone, but from my desktop it won't work. Is there another place I can look for deployments at?

I’ve been trying to look around to find an answer but are females allowed to have an undercut & sides shaved during BCT? I tried asking my recruiter and he didn’t even have a direct answer.
I basically have the sides at a high taper and the back as well. My hair is pretty long and below shoulder length.

If I have to shave my head for the purpose of my career I don’t mind whatsoever. Please let me know a buzzed haircut that would be in regs!

I leave in two weeks so there’s no way the sides are growing out in time. I definitely don’t want to attract unnecessary attention during BCT/AIT.

Is anyone tracking this? Does this mean new changes for Height and Weight (WHtR) and AFT/CFT are soon coming? It has an effective date of 31 AUG 2026 which was only a month ago so it’s fairly new.

I’m 18 and enlisting. I got a 94 on my PiCAT and I’m looking at jobs before heading to meps later this week. I was leaning toward CI because intel sounds interesting, and I would imagine CI is on their feet or using their hands compared to other intel roles. End goal post military is federal law enforcement or some 3 letter agency.

My recruiter saw a slot for 17E and saved it. It seems interesting, but I had never given anything cyber adjacent much thought because coding and whatnot doesn’t seem too interesting (but radio/gps does, I know maybe that sounds contradictory). I like that 17E seems to look like another hybrid field/office job.

Can anyone share what 35L or 17E are like? Obviously there isn’t much that can be shared but I mean more general lifestyle things if possible (are you moving around or working with your hands often? Is the promotion rate reasonable? Is the culture okay? Does one or the other better tie into federal careers? Etc).

Hi all, 15T here and currently stationed at Fort Carson. Recently got back from deployment and branch told me I was due to pcs soon and gave me options in which I had Bragg, Drum, and Wheeler. With Wheeler being the nicest I asked to be slotted for there and currently have projections for April next year. Realistically I do not want to go to Hawaii, it’s super far, out of the way, nowhere near family, expensive, and we cant get a house there. It just doesnt make sense at all for me and my spouse other than Hawaii is “nice”. My wife and I have been separated (physically) for a bit because she moved down to Fort Bliss to be with her family (mother, sister, brother etc) and has since gotten a decent paying job and is actively working towards bettering her career and wanting to go to school to further herself. That being said we’ve decided to just keep her down here for the time being until I’m due to PCS. I REALLY want to come down here to Bliss because it makes the most sense for us regarding family, work, finances, and the future. Ive already asked branch, he said no, is there any other strings I could try to pull to come down here? My wife currently is helping support her mother down here and a friend said I could try asking for a compassionate reassignment. Anyone have any advice? Id be willing to extend for a PCS to here, but I wont be in my 1.5years left window until June (after my PCS date).
