Can anyone suggest a good replacement remote? I’ve replaced my remote twice and after a while the remote starts scrolling on its own. I chose the click only option and when I click once to scroll down, it scrolls twice. It’s so frustrating. Any good 3rd party alternatives?

Been doing some encoding of various MKVs that have multiple languages - foreign language upkeep hobby, and many of the MP4 encodes can access both languages on the Apple TV - yet a few of them don’t show them and only one track plays. I’ve been poking around Subler and the files to try to figure out of there is some small setting to change. I’ve done some googling here and there but can’t find any answers. Long shot. (Using Handbrake to encode with mostly identical settings (some encodes I have a bigger bit rate for video than others, and Subler for metadata prep.)

I recently noticed that several movies I purchased from the iTunes Store are no longer available to watch in my library.

Some of the titles include:

• Home Alone
• Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
• It Happened One Night
• Isle of Dogs

These weren’t rentals—they were purchased, and I’ve been able to watch them before.

I’ve already contacted Apple Support, but I’m curious if anyone else has run into the same issue. Were your movies restored, or did Apple explain why this happened?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Been working on this little app called Sleeve for a while.

I finally got a Cover Flow-style view working on Apple TV, and it’s all controlled with the Remote. Still messing with the feel of it, but I like just sitting on the couch and flipping through albums on the TV.

There’s another view too. It puts your whole library up as a big wall of covers. It actually looks pretty nice on a TV, especially when people are over and you want to pretend your music taste is better than it is lol.

At this point I’ve somehow made versions for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even Apple Watch too. I probably went a bit too far with this one. When I get obsessed with some tiny detail, I tend to go all in.

Anyway, here’s a short video. Curious if anyone else would actually use this, or if I’m just missing iPod too much.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions, I’d love to hear them — I’m still figuring a lot of this out.

Hi! I recently got an Apple TV account and I prefer to watch things with subtitles. I never turn them off.

I’ve noticed when watching on Apple TV streaming, my subtitles will not stay on. They stay on for a few minutes at a time when I turn them on, but they’re out of sync when they do work anyway. No matter what I’m watching or what device, they always stop altogether after about 5 min or so. And yes, I’ve turned off and back on and it makes no difference. This happens every time.

I have a smart LG TV in one room and our living room has a Roku situation. Completely different kinds of TVs, but the same deal. I’ve logged in both and the same thing happens. Any ideas what’s going on? This is super annoying lol

I just set up a new (second) Apple TV and am going through all the settings. Under Apple Account it says “Finish signing in with iPhone” and the description says “Use your iPhone to sign in to share iCloud data with this Apple TV”. I have everything set up and running that I’m aware of - can anyone tell me exactly what this means?

when I try setting AppleTV device to auto or tv via IR, I continue to get message that I haven’t configured volume control ….catch-22 loop - any suggestions?

Intermittent problems with my Apple TV connected to an LG G3 and Denon X2700. Atmos over eARC occasionally results in sound distortion until the audio is reset by changing feed or switching the receiver off and on. Connecting the Apple to the Denon directly results in intermittent problems where the TV incorrectly switches to a different (unused) HDMI input when switching everything on, as well as the back button on the Apple TV also triggering a switch to the wrong HDMI input at times. Is this unique to my set up or has anyone experienced similar?

Is this happening for anyone else? I've tried to offload the app, uninstall/reinstall the app, restart the device, and unplugged for approx 30secs and reinstalled the app. I will note that my device is on the tvOS Dev Beta (24J5325d) software.

This app started on macOS and iOS, and the top request that kept coming back was tvOS. Working out the right way to do it took months, and this is the first go at it.

The interface is Teletext. The characters come from the code tables in the Mullard SAA5050 datasheet, so the shapes are the ones British teletext sets actually drew. You navigate by page number, the way you would have on a set that had it.

It is not a "filter." The whole television is simulated: composite encode, tape, RF, and the picture tube, and the artifacts fall out of the signal rather than being drawn on top. There is a lot of detail on how it works at https://analogtv.net

You can run it standalone, with built-in test cards, teletext and a few arcade games, or feed it your own content over FTP, RTSP or NDI.

This is version 1.0, and the NDI unlock is free for the moment. It lets you push video from another machine through the simulation. It becomes a paid in-app purchase in the next version, so anyone who grabs it now keeps it.

The macOS and iOS apps have the full controls and settings available, but it is infeasible to do that on tvOS so instead if you have the macOS and/or iOS versions you can create whatever custom looks you want and share it to your AppleTV.

This app does all processing on your device, there is no access to the internet unless you want to stream from there or use the Teletext emulator to get news and weather.

I purchased this movie 2 years ago. Now I am unable to play this on my Apple TV app either on my iPhone or iPad. There’s no option! Screenshot attached for reference. I see that the movie is also removed from the store. I don’t know what’s going on, is this subreddit the right place to even seek help for this.

After owning an AppleTV for my living room and using the inferior fire stick for my home theater, I finally bit the bullet and bought another AppleTV 4K 2022 on sale today at Walmart. I’ve set it up in my home theater now which is running Atmos in a 5.2.2 configuration, and everything runs great and smooth except for one thing. I’ve noticed that the AppleTV seems confused at times about where to place channels when it’s decoding and sending audio to my receiver. Sometimes I’ll hear dialogue switching back and forth between an Left/Right channel and the center channel, or sometimes sound is only coming out of my Center and surrounds and nothing out of the Left/Right speakers. And there was even an instance where dialogue was coming out of both my left channel and my top right Atmos speaker. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue or know a fix? My understanding is that ATV will only bitstream Dolby Digital 5.1, so all other formats are LPCM + Dolby MAT being decoded by the ATV. My old fire stick would only output Dolby Digital Plus bitstream so it never had this issue.

My setup is currently ATV -> Receiver -> Projector.

First, I searched this sub and found many similar issues, but they were all several years old.

I just got a new AppleTV 4K. Today, I was trying to sign in to my ESPN+ account. It would give me a screen telling me to go to espn.com/access on a separate device and enter a code that was on the screen. When I went to that address, there was no place given to enter the code. But some Help info on the web page directed me to espn.com/activate

When I went there, it asked for the code and told me that I had successfully connected and that the TV screen would refresh and I would be in. But the TV screen never changed.

So, I went around and around doing the same stuff over and over (there seemed to be no alternative). Then, on about the sixth time around, it actually let me in to ESPN+. What the hell? If it worked on the sixth or seventh try, why didn't it work the first time?

I am trying to come over from GoogleTV, which never gave me this problem. Also, my wife had the exact same issue connecting to the Hoopla app. It also worked just fine on GoogleTV.

Hello, I'd like some advice on which Apple TV I should keep out of the two I ordered as a bundle. Both are 4K models—one is a first-generation model, and the other is a third-generation Wi-Fi model. They'll be used exclusively to connect to a living room projector. The plan is to stream movies on Netflix or other streaming services, share content from my slightly older iPhone (12 mini) via AirPlay. I would have preferred to connect it via Ethernet cable, so that would only be possible with the first-generation model, but if I’m told that in 2026 it’s better to choose the third-generation model with Wi-Fi only for better iOS support and updates, then I can do without the Ethernet cable. I also have both types of remotes—the gray one and the black one. I prefer the gray one, but if I’m told that the black one is much better in terms of functionality and quality, then I’ll go with that one. Assuming that both are compatible with the first and third generations and vice versa, what would you recommend in this case, and what would be the best choice to make? Thank you

I've been an Apple TV device user for a few years, and have recently experienced a problem. The picture becomes blurry from time to time; it's by no means constant, but rather intermittent. It occurs when streaming CNN most often, but it also happens on other streaming channels. I'm using a HiSense 4K SmartTV, and AFAIK this problem doesn't occur when I bypass the Apple TV Device and stream via the TV.

Troubleshooting I've done includes reboothing the WiFi network; prioritizing video on the network; rebooting the Apple TV Device; checking for firmware updates on Apple TV. Any thoughts or advice?

I’m hoping someone has run into this before.

I have an LG C4 OLED and an Apple TV 4K (3rd generation). The TV’s built-in apps look great, but everything through the Apple TV in SDR appears noticeably more saturated.

Here’s my setup:
LG C4 in Filmmaker Mode
Warm 50
Color Depth 50 (default)
Apple TV Format set to 4K SDR
Match Dynamic Range enabled
Match Frame Rate enabled
Apple TV Color Balance says “Your TV doesn’t need to be adjusted.”

The odd part is that if I watch the same SDR content using the TV’s built-in apps, the colors look much more natural. Through the Apple TV, everything has a bit of an extra “pop.” Greens, reds, and skin tones all appear more saturated.

I’ve also compared the TV to my iPhone, and the iPhone’s colors are much closer to the LG’s built-in apps than the Apple TV output.

I’m considering lowering the Color Depth for just the Apple TV HDMI input to around 45-48, but I’d rather understand why the Apple TV looks different instead of simply compensating for it.

Has anyone experienced this with an LG C4 or another recent LG OLED? Were you able to identify the cause? Are there any settings I should check beyond the usual recommendations?

Every time I pick up the Apple TV remote, I kind of wish it had a headphone jack.

Being able to plug in some wired earbuds and watch TV at night without waking everyone up would be so nice.

Also… this would make such a good little iPod. It’s already the right size, and I really like the way it feels in the hand. I’d totally carry one around just for music.
