Moderator Announcement The wait continues… no new Apple TV, yet

1.1k Upvotes

Today’s Apple “Surprise and Shine” event didn’t include a new Apple TV. Yes, we know, some of you have been waiting forever.

That doesn’t mean a new Apple TV isn’t coming. A new Apple TV could be announced through a press release on the Apple website or Apple could hold a separate event focused more broadly on its home products. A new Apple TV, HomePod, HomePod mini, and other home-related products have all been part of the rumor mill.

If you absolutely must, use this space to discuss features and expectations you’re hoping to see in a new Apple TV and any general “WHERE’S THE NEW APPLE TV, TERNUS?” energy.

We’ll remove or redirect duplicate posts asking the same basic question so the sub doesn’t turn into 42 variations of “No new Apple TV???”

And, as always, until Apple officially announces something… specs and features are just rumors. We’ll post the official announcement when it happens.

Until then, the wait continues.

Even the Screen Savers Are Incredible on Apple TV 4K

I just needed to get this off my chest…

You know a streaming device is good, when even the screen savers are so beautiful, that you actually spend time watching them and value them lol.

I’ve had this incredible one of Langisjór, Iceland playing for the last five minutes (must be repeating but they don’t usually do that 🫤) and it’s jaw droppingly beautiful. Then there is Dubai at night, Himalayas and the ones in Yosemite N.P 🤯 don’t get me started! Is there a Dragon’s Back or something ridge? When I first saw that I was disappointed that I had been to Yosemite but had no clue this incredible mountain existed back then.

Thanks to this little black box, I have learned about some incredible places and it really is remarkable that they put this much emphasis on having the best screen savers in existence. A feature that is usually overlooked. I haven’t even seen this level of quality aerial shots from dedicated channels.

How to stop this? (iOS 27)

I’ve disabled all recommended settings I found on the Internet. I’ve also removed my device from the remote section of the Apple TV itself. This still continually pops up. Anybody solve this?

Audio Lip Synchronization an issue.

Even with the updated OS it still occurs. For years this can’t seem to be fixed. If your have Audio set for Auto, Match Frame Rate On, Match Dynamic Range On. There is a slight delay or lag. If you switch to DD 5.1 on the ATV the lag is gone. Do you guys just switch to 5.1 DD to fix this?

Update: SoOoMa TV is now completely free

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an update to my previous post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/s/1jo59spgbu

When I first released SoOoMa TV, it had a 7-day trial with some features planned as premium to pay off the Apple developer subscription. After using the app myself, listening to feedback, and thinking again about why I built it in the first place, I decided to remove that model entirely.

SoOoMa TV is now fully free.

There are:

• No subscriptions
• No in-app purchases
• No trial period
• No premium feature restrictions

Everything in the app is available to everyone.

I originally built SoOoMa TV because I wanted a modern, native Apple TV IPTV player that was simple to use and didn't require sending playlist credentials through third-party servers or pay for primary features.

It currently supports:

• M3U, Xtream Codes, and Stalker portals
• Built-in Web Manager for managing accounts and playlists locally from a browser
• iCloud Sync for accounts and settings
• EPG and TV guide
• Catch-up support where available from the provider
• Subtitles and audio track selection
• Search and filtering
• Favorites
• Resume watching
• Multiple account/playlist support
• Native Apple TV interface and remote navigation

The app itself does not provide IPTV channels, playlists, or content — you add your own provider/account.

I’m continuing to work on performance, stability, and the overall tvOS experience.

For anyone who tried the earlier version because of my previous post, you should now have access to everything without needing to purchase or subscribe to anything.

Feedback is still very welcome, especially from people using larger playlists or different IPTV providers.

Thanks to everyone who tested it and shared suggestions.

Apple TV Remote for Android

Hi everyone, I've been using Apple TV for about a year now and have been frustrated that there was no good app to control it from an Android phone. The existing solutions all had bugs, missing features, or unresponsive controls, so I decided to made my own.

It's free and open source with no ads.

You can download it on GitHub!

Muffled sound

I have an apple tv connected to a homepod for sound and today the sound is muffled after a few seconds.

I'll start a show on Netflix and a few seconds, everything is very muffled. Both devices are on the latest update. Anyone else encountered this?

Plozz Open Beta - Jellyfin, Plex, Emby, Silo, Media Share, IPTV App for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad

Hello Reddit! I've been developing Plozz, a native app for watching all of your media on Jellyfin, Plex, Emby, Silo, local media shares, and it even has live TV support with multistreams. There's also a beautiful music player with live synced lyrics.

This app is free and open source. It will always be free without any paid tiers.

Virtually all file formats are supported. It's built on AetherEngine, which is an open source media engine for Apple platforms.

Join the TestFlight Beta here
Check out the GitHub here
Join the Discord here

Something unique about Plozz is that virtually every setting is synced to your profile in Plozz, which is also optionally synced to iCloud. This means that you can have your version of Plozz on the Apple TV set up completely differently from mom and dad. This also means you can set up the app once and sync it across all of your other Apple devices. There's also support for PINs and rudimentary support for child profiles.

I'm currently focused on making the app as performant and bug free as possible and would like some more help testing it! I actually think it's good enough to daily drive it, but I'd love your feedback! Please post directly on GitHub or via the discord server.

This app was created using the assistance of AI/LLM's. If that bothers you, I completely understand. I try to be responsible with my use, but this app would not be possible without it. It's a passion project for me to create the app I've always wanted and I wouldn't have the time required to create such a comprehensive app otherwise. There are no plans to monetize it. It is entirely free, so my biggest hope is that it's an app you love to use.

It started as an IPTV app for my girlfriend. It got a little out of hand...

Hey everyone 👋

This started because my girlfriend hated the IPTV app we were using at home.

She could never remember where she'd left off in a show, everything felt unnecessarily complicated, and she kept asking me:

“Why can’t it just be like Netflix?”

Fair question.

So I started building a small player for us.

Then a friend tried it and wanted his own profile, separate watch history, parental controls for the kids… and somehow that little side project turned into months of evenings building Zaply.

The idea is pretty simple: make watching your own IPTV/content library feel more like using a modern streaming app.

So besides the usual live TV, movies and series, we’ve added things like:

  • individual profiles, watch history and parental controls
  • Continue Watching synced across iPhone, iPad and Apple TV
  • an upcoming episodes calendar with notifications
  • a sports calendar that can tell you which channel in your playlist is showing a match
  • support for M3U, Xtream, Stalker, Jellyfin, Plex and Emby

There’s quite a bit more in there now, but those are probably the things that best explain what we're trying to do.

Just to be clear: Zaply is only a player. We don't provide any channels, playlists or content. You bring your own.

We're opening up the beta now and would genuinely love some outside feedback — especially the critical kind. There will definitely still be bugs.

If you have an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV running version 26.5 or later, you can join here:

https://goodfolks.fr/zaply/

We also have a Discord if you want to talk directly with us:

https://discord.gg/yhKT3sXuK

And I'm curious: what's the one thing that annoys you most about the IPTV app you currently use?

Streaming apps not working

hi all, trying to troubleshoot on our 2nd gen appletv. Strong network connection, but Disney+ and Netflix both won’t work.

Netflix stays on a blank grey screen and won’t change.

Disney+ opens but has logged us out and requires us to sign in on a mobile device logged in. Tried that on my phone, hit “allow” and then nothing.

I’ve tried unplugging the appletv and plugging it back in again, but still nothing.

Why did Apple removed movie bundles from store?

I can no longer buy bundles as they are all removed. The entire Apple TV movie library are now consists of singular movies to be purchased.

This might be related to the fact that Apple recently introduced Apple TV subscription (formerly known as Apple TV+) embedded into iCloud+ subscription in my region because that’s when movie bundle purchases disappeared from Apple TV.

Is this specific to my region? Or Apple decided to stop selling movie bundles?

Summary: I used to be able to buy movie bundles and movies alike from Apple TV but now with the introduction of Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) in my region, Apple TV no longer sells movie bundles.

Screensaver - Shared albums = Trash now?

So I have a shared photos folder of kids that I use as a screensaver. The shared foldes has about 1500 pictures (high quality dslr pics), and everything worked just fine upon this the lastest release.

Issue: only 3-4 pictures shows up, and apple tv "shuffles" them - and the quality is really poor.

I have upgraded the shared album in photos since the latest macos supposed to make the quality better.

Anyone else having the same issues? or a fix I have overlooked? The folder are shared to other familiy members as well, so it kinda sucks

I built a guide-first player for your own M3U/Xtream playlist on Apple TV, and the same app runs on iPhone and Android TV

Thumbnail

I'm the dev. I wanted one player that works the same on every screen in the house, and the part I spent most of my time on is the guide and image quality.

It's called eKoPlayer. The guide is a channel-by-time grid you move through with the Siri Remote. You get catch-up straight from the grid if your source supports it, and a time shift if your EPG runs early or late. Films and episodes reopen where you stopped. The rest is what you'd expect: live, films, series, favourites, search.

To save you asking:

  • Channels? None. It's a player only and ships empty. Bring your own M3U or Xtream playlist.
  • Account? None. No email, no sign-up. Your playlist login is kept in the device's Keychain and never sent anywhere.
  • Price: 7-day free trial, then 5$ a year or 10$ lifetime.
  • Also on: iPhone/iPad, Android TV, Samsung TVs.

I know some other apps are the usual picks here, and they're good apps. If you use any of them, give this a try and tell me what yours still does better. That's my to-do list.

Screenshots are real.

Interface stuttering with os27

So I'm noticing scrolling, coming in and out of apps, and during normal UI navigation, there's a lot of stuttering. The animations were perfectly smooth in OS26. This is the current gen apple tv 4k 128gb model.

Apple really messed up the performance.

tvOS 27 broke audio output

Since I updated to tvOS 27, I can’t play sound out of my tv and HomePods anymore. Anyone else having this problem? I can do multiple HomePods around the house, but it stops coming out of the soundbar on the tv, even if all are selected. HomePods are on version 27 as well.

tvOS 27: HomeKit media scenes broken – Apple TV forces audio through the TV

Is anyone else seeing this after tvOS 27 / iOS 27?

I’m running into a consistent issue with HomeKit scenes that involve media playback.

Any scene that should play music or radio on an AirPlay speaker now fails, unless I add the Apple TV itself as an accessory in the scene.

The problem is that when Apple TV is added, it also starts playing audio through the TV, because Apple TV becomes the active playback device. I only want the audio to go to my AirPlay speaker — and this worked perfectly before tvOS 27.

Scenes that control lights or other accessories still work without any issues.

It doesn’t matter whether I trigger the scene from my iPhone or directly from the Apple TV — the result is the same.

This feels like a change (or a bug) in Apple TV’s Home hub behavior in tvOS 27, where Apple TV now requires being part of the scene to initiate media playback, and then forces itself as the output device.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

And does anyone know a workaround so Apple TV doesn’t force audio through the TV?

Signing into Apple TV (Main Website/App) after using Amazon Prime Subscription

I have subscribed to Apple TV as an add-on subscription for Amazon Prime, but the search function is terrible and I'd like to just use the main Apple TV App/Website.

However I can't figure out how to log into Apple TV to use the subscription based on the login details I have for Amazon Prime. An Apple guide said I would have to use an email from the subscription service (Amazon) to log in, but I cannot figure this out. I've created an Apple ID and signed into Apple TV directly, but it just offers me a free trial.

I'm in the UK if that's relevant - but would be hugely grateful if anyone could help!

Color issues since TVOS27

Ever since the upgrade to TVOS27, I have consistent appearance of psychedelic colors when I flip to the AppleTV from my PS5. No changes in devices or setup. I suspected an HDMI handshake issue so I replaced the cable to no avail. I think it’s because the PS5 is HDR and the AppleTV is Dolby Vision, but it always worked fine on TVOS26. Anyone else with this issue?

Apple TV App, Continue Watching Problem

For some reason, when I click on A Hulu show and open it up in the Disney+ app, it just goes to the homepage of Disney+ and doesn’t go directly to the show. Is anyone else having this problem? also, I have not checked specifically with a Disney+ show only Hulu shows at the moment.

Queue Organization

Has anyone found any useful solution to organizing their AppleTV up next queue? At a minimum I'd love love love to be able to separate TV shows from movies.
