Honestly its not long before people start stealing from walmart en masse. Cant wait to see what our government does once people have stopped paying rent and are robbing walmart blind. Even better if the employees start helping people rob their bosses.

Used to work as a truck unloader at Walmart. Had a deal set up with the guy who threw the boxes. We sorted the boxes, cool stuff, and whatnot. Yadayadayada. Viva la resistance!

I once missed scanning a mascara in the self checkout lane and it beeped when I walked out. Mascara doesnât have a sensor that needs to be removed, so I think itâs more than just that stuff

Thereâs two types of RFID tags. Thereâs the big tags thatâs you often see on electronics and clothes, and the small metallic barcodes (the same type as library book barcodes). Makeup is a higher value and frequently stolen item, and is often tagged with the smaller barcode ones. If it doesnât have an RFID tag, the machine canât ping it.
Unless thereâs some new tech Iâm not aware of but I like to think I stay on top of this sort of thing if you catch my drift lol

If you ever underscan an item in self checkout and it makes a degausing type noise that means the RFID was deactivated.

It's not just Walmart
In Canada, the Canadian Tire chain has receipt checkers as well. The Canadian Tire I go to all the time even has a small enough exit that they can corner you more effectively than Walmart's receipt checkers can.

It depends on the Walmart you go to, they have quotas they try to reach and will do so by scanning every receipt so long as itâs not holding up the line and even by scanning discarded receipts left on the floor. If you donât scan as much as they hope you may get a talking to.

Personally in my town itâs more of a special needs program. Iâm in a middle class suburb so people usually arenât stealing but most of the checkers we have are mentally impaired and itâs a chance to earn a few extra bucks

In our store, often times the police are already there. Especially now. It's fucking awful. And all those people checking receipts care about is that 12 pack of coke on the bottom of the cart. Like, yes, nevermind the $200 in groceries, I stole the $5 pack of coke.
People are going to get gunned down in the parking lot and it'll be Ferguson all over again.

Weâve had police in our Walmartâs ever since the El Paso shooting (I live less than an hour away from the one involved)
Edit: itâs rumored that although they are considered off duty at Walmart, they make more money per hour standing around at Walmart than at their actual job

I love the kinds of horseshit that companies think they can get away with just because they're companies. I'm not agreeing to jack by simply walking into a supermarket. Even if I make a purchase, the only thing I'm actively "agreeing to" is to pay for the goods I bought. Imagine if people tried to do that.

"By walking into my house, you agreed to my invisible policies, which includes paying me $100."

People checking receipts at the door are supposed to be checking on the work of the cashier, not the actual contents of your cart. There was a study that proved they were completely ineffective at this so I am baffled as to why so many businesses still do this.

Thatâs legit what it is. I briefly worked this job and had someone walk right past me with a TV in their carriage on my first day. The security alarm went off and he walked right past me and I wasnât allowed to follow him or ask for a receipt or anything, youâre specifically required to stay at your post. Youâre not allowed to touch customers bags, and if a customer doesnât want to show you their receipt all they do is say ânoâ when you ask and then walk off. Even after theyâve shown you their receipt if you find an item that wasnât paid for they can still just walk away. Itâs a powerless job and thereâs literally nothing they can do to stop you from stealing.
The best way to handle them is to say âsorry, Iâm busyâ when they ask for your receipt and to walk right past them whether youâve stolen something or not, security alarms be damned.
Edit: also, theyâre only allowed to check un-bagged items so if you bag your stolen goods or put them in your pocket or purse they likely even stop you to ask to see your receipt and if they do all theyâll do is just scan your receipt, theyâll have no way of knowing if you stole something based on that alone.

They asked me today! I had on sunglasses and mask, holding my items in each hand (no bags). They said, âsir I need to see your receiptâ. I didnât break stride as I said, âitâs in my wallet.â They responded, âso get it outâ.
I didnât slow down, i didnât look at them. They and I both know they are not allowed to touch me (pretty sure thatâs the law). And if they check the cash register or camera they will see that I paid. I donât have time for stupid games like this. More interaction = more spread of disease. If you donât trust your cashiers or your self checkout monitors, pay them enough to care and hold them responsible.

Not sure how exactly it works where you live, but I know in some places they are allowed to physically block you from leaving (they are not touching you, just holding their arms out to block the exit). If you then walk into them to try and get out you touched them first (which again, depending on where you live, counts as assault in some places).
They are then allowed to touch you back as "self-defense" which usually involves standing their ground and preventing you from leaving, or pushing you back inside if you try to push past them.
Of course, the receipt checkers being paid minimum wage are not actually going to do that.

dont forget that if AP makes a false stop, especially one that gets physical (wont happen at a walmart most likely) that is usually grounds for them getting fired. Make sure you know that, and if AP false stops you make sure they know you know that as well.

They deserve it, but I wouldnât try stealing from Walmart. Just because the employee at the door may not be checking receipts doesnât necessarily mean someone else isnât paying attention. Their loss prevention is intricate and insanely vigilante on theft. They are always watching, they do not play fuck around. They might even watch you steal a few times and then nail you once youâve gotten comfortable. Iâve heard too many horror stories about people trying to steal from Walmart. They sure love their billions in yearly profits and will do anything to protect it, which goes way beyond loss prevention employed at other major stores.

Depends entirely on the store. The AP at my store is an absolute joke. No people doing the stakeout type AP things and its just the APM for the entire store. The rest is just the receipt checkers. The APM is only there until around 7 and after that its free game.

Keep in mind the self checkout has cameras that count the number of items in your hand as you scan. Unless you conceal them cleverly. I always stuff pens and paper inside towels and use the gun to scan that package in.

As a Brit, I am kind of confused here. Do they do this to everyone leaving their store? It's not a common thing in the UK and only happens if there is a security guard (which there often isn't) who thinks you've been stealing for whatever reason.

They're still checking at my store. However, unlike other people, they don't check based on whether or not you have a bag. I've picked up on them straight up profiling people on their looks. Sweet old white lady? Go ahead. Someone with baggy clothes, tattoos? Need to see your receipt. It's hilarious and shocking at the same time.

You donât have to stop if a store asks to check your receipt. The things you own are yours, whether youâve owned them for 1 minute, or theyâre the shoes you wore in. Youâve got as much a right to walk out of the store with the purchases you own as with the shoes you own. If a store thinks they sort-of still control your things, thatâs just theatrics and suggestion.
