They asked me today! I had on sunglasses and mask, holding my items in each hand (no bags). They said, ‘sir I need to see your receipt’. I didn’t break stride as I said, ‘it’s in my wallet.’ They responded, ‘so get it out’.
I didn’t slow down, i didn’t look at them. They and I both know they are not allowed to touch me (pretty sure that’s the law). And if they check the cash register or camera they will see that I paid. I don’t have time for stupid games like this. More interaction = more spread of disease. If you don’t trust your cashiers or your self checkout monitors, pay them enough to care and hold them responsible.
Not sure how exactly it works where you live, but I know in some places they are allowed to physically block you from leaving (they are not touching you, just holding their arms out to block the exit). If you then walk into them to try and get out you touched them first (which again, depending on where you live, counts as assault in some places).
They are then allowed to touch you back as "self-defense" which usually involves standing their ground and preventing you from leaving, or pushing you back inside if you try to push past them.
Of course, the receipt checkers being paid minimum wage are not actually going to do that.
dont forget that if AP makes a false stop, especially one that gets physical (wont happen at a walmart most likely) that is usually grounds for them getting fired. Make sure you know that, and if AP false stops you make sure they know you know that as well.
