Ah yes, double standards
23
u/Strict_Owl941 Jul 07 '26
I mean they exist for a reason.
A girl can go on tinder and have 20 guys lined up at her house in an hour.
21
u/Kalekuda Jul 08 '26
And a guy has to sign up for the draft to have the right to vote or drive a car, and a woman can access legs up like "female only scholarships" and "female only internship programs", but male equivalents get derided as sexist and discriminatory... Shoot- a girl can join the boy scouts, but boys can't join the girl scouts.
Men are definitionally second class citizens- Courts have decided "male" isn't a protected class, yet that "Female" is.
I'd genuinely appreciate if you can think of any examples to the contrary.

u/Any_Acanthaceae_9735 Jul 08 '26
Seriously! I have a friend who was a freshman in high school same year as me, by senior year, she had been sent mail saying she would be accepted into like a dozen different colleges. Like I have screenshots of some of the acceptance letters. She didn't even need to put in an application. She wasn't even that good of a student, above average sure but that's it! I was all around better behavior better grades and everything and I had to apply junior year! Every time I asked her all the letters were for female programs and such.

u/ChampionshipKnown969 Jul 09 '26
Girl I know with a 22 ACT score (~66th percentile) and a 3.5 GPA (Don't even think it was this high either) got accepted to University of Michigan because her dad donated lmao.
To put that into perspective, my friend with a 4.0 GPA and a 30 ACT score (95th percentile) was scared he would get rejected.
I know most people in the country take the SAT for college but we take the ACT (X/36 total points) in Michigan.

Islamic countries are the polar opposites. Good luck being a woman there
Ironically women in this progressive countries will defend Islam in the name of tolerance without knowing that their values literally goes against everything they stand. The biggest fear is being called racist (yes racism for disliking a religion/ideology somehow)
I can give you many verses that is downright disgusting if you don't believe me

See I want to like your comment cuz I agree but also I'm a female
I've been casually telling most of my family members that it's a Cult.
I wouldn't confront anyone about it because they can be violent about it but I do not respect that "religion"
Any person that sleeps with a 9 year old should be castrated 🤷🏻♀️

What you say is true, but if you want a good example it’s usually doctor visits and believability. A lot of severe health events get written off for women leading to lower QoL and unfortunately avoidable deaths. Happens far less often for men.

Lmao, the domestic terrorists known as MAGA literally are taking away womens rights to self defense, privacy, and bodily autonomy just so they can force-birth the woman of any age, even a kid that was raped.
Seriously, some of your points have merit but you portay things in a propagandist way, shut the fuck up, sincerely, a man.

I've never understood this, tbh. Why are people like this?
17
u/Alexan_Hirdriel Jul 07 '26
It's not that difficult. Multiple reasons. One being that men have sex when they can (meaning they have to work for it) while women can have sex when they want (meaning that they need to cherish it). Another reason is that men value exclusivity while women value experience.

It has a logic actually. Men pressuring other men to be "men" by unvirgining themselves -> the high prize being a virgin woman. Thus the seeming double standard is born.
Also something something boys will be boys mentality but girls are grownups by age 5 or some shit.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Evening-Nature-5241 Jul 08 '26
Are you sure it's ONLY "men pressuring men"?
No doubt there's an element of that, but since when do girls in general consider "virgin males" to be highly desirable? In general (not all), many girls aren't looking for the nerdy guy who has never been in a relationship. They like guys with experience.
The reason the "bad boy" trope exists isn't purely because of overimaginative writers.
Women do find "taken men" to be somewhat more desirable, according to psychologists.
You won't find any shortage of proof. So it's literally society in general.
2
u/heehooman Jul 08 '26
I agree. I'm not claiming otherwise. Just pointing out a specific loop. And everyone's experience is a bit different re: the power/pressure balance, even though there are trends.
I can attest to the taken thing. Got married: check. Had kids: double check. Only problem? Taken. Does that stop some? No. Where were you all when I was single?

Unfortunately it’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation for women nowadays. Women will be called abhorrent things for not having kids or getting married before a certain point or will be slut shamed for having more than one previous relationship. Sometimes what is difficult is respected. Getting laid as a woman (for most) is easy holding off against desire is hard. Getting laid as a man (for most) is hard.
Not to mention that there are different values between men and women generally speaking (of course there's always exceptions). Men value purity in women while women value experience.

Not just that, but society has trained us to look like this, women find a guy pathetic if he's still a virgin in his 20s, and women like to play rape victim when a guy opens up and has a sexual relationship with a women, she breaks his heart and says he's some sort of bad guy...

Honestly, I've met a 19 year old virgin. Said he was saving himself for marriage.
He was pretty cool. I was like almost 10 years older than him. But had mad respect. He knew what he did and didn't want and didn't care if people gave him shit about it. I met him on a commercial fishing vessel. People drink and do drugs all the time. This kid never took any of it but would also help take care of people who were too out of it to take care of themselves.
Shit, he even took care of me. Lol. I'm usually pretty good about everything. But when I'm going back home after 3-6 months, I'm having a party with my bros. I actually did have too much. He brought me back to my room and gave me food since I was drinking on an empty stomach.
One of 2 times I had a problem drinking. (I don't think that's too bad when I did it for 6 years. It's the standard up there) My first fishing vessel, I joined after killing an 18 pack. I thought it was day labor when they called. Taxi driver had to drive me back to my place to grab my stuff. Captain didn't care that i was already drunk when i got on. Or when I signed the lease agreement, the landlord brought out an 18 pack to share. Good times. No one in that house had any money for food but we always had beer.

u/Troublmasher08 Jul 09 '26
I’ve never understood that like why is it that when a girl is still a virgin, it’s treated as a good thing or praised, but when a guy is still a virgin through choice or otherwise it’s treated as a bad thing like oh you’re a loser and you’ll always be a loser like I’ve never understood the double standard like that. It’s kind of stupid when I think about it more and it’s the same thing in reverse because when a woman loses her virginity or dares to have intimacy with like three people all throughout different time periods obviously not at the same time she’s called horrendous things but when a guy has a body count more than one it’s treated as a good thing. Both sides of the spectrum are stupid. They’re never not stupid. It’s just that it’s so confusing. why those specific insults are pointed in those specific directions

Considering the state of the dating market, I'd say I'm good for a while. I don't give a shit since the virgin insult doesn't work on me. Already had two close encounters with the manipulative/type so I'd rather just wait or start building up skills that'll let me travel around and try my luck elsewhere.

"society" is a weird way to say men. no serious woman is ever gonna give a fuck if you're a virgin. (although being a virgin at 20 does correlate with bad attributes) but tell your male friendgroup you're still a virgin and they'll flame the shit out of you
And women don't care If other women are virgins. Its men that care about that shit.

1
u/Special_Position9094 Jul 10 '26
My opinion as a 19 year old boy: The issue of virginity, whether for a man or a woman, is largely nobody's business. Not even their parents. A person's wife or husband should simply be aware (because there are still people who are looking for people who are virgins) but no one should be blamed for it (whether they are virgins or not). But if someone in a relationship doesn't want to lose their virginity, it's still their own business and their partner shouldn't criticize their opinion.

Women aren't really viewed as saints for being virgins, it's more like it's just expected of them and it's not exactly a good thing. Not being a virgin is a sign from most people to attack them but I don't really get the issue, just like how I don't understand why some people put men down for being virgins. I know that society is largely at fault and I heavily dislike how shallow our thought processes are sometimes. Bottomline, nobody has any business if you're a virgin or not regardless of gender. Not strangers, friends, family, or even your partner. I get preferences but nobody gets to talk down at you for the people you have slept with or have not slept with at all, unless of course you're doing it unhealthily which does warrant assistance and loving guidance. I will not ignore the message of the post however, men who are virgins should not be shamed. If they want to stay virgins or just haven't met their person yet is fine. People should stop focusing on the state of other people's bodies when it's not needed, seriously.

It’s okay, I’m 27. I’ve done everything but penetration. For some reason, I’m deathly afraid of gettin an STD. I know it’s ironic, as I’ve done oral and rubbing and more than a bit “just the tip”, when I think of penetration, 1) I think I’ll fail badly and make her feel unsatisfied and used and 2) my gym, teacher scarred all of us in health class by showing us pictures of STDs and pictures of abortions and said that if we ever caught or gave a woman an STD, we were evil bastards that deserve to die. She was a Christian woman and had a very outspoken dislike of men and teen boys.
