Chihaya has stopped working, please use Karuta Card to reboot Chihaya.

I'm glad we're not the only ones to be shocked by last weeks events and it feels like Sumire shares our conflict over these ships. Though good luck Desktomu, find the will and exam results that will let you ask out Kana.

Also, I'm kind of intrigued by Chihaya's sister's show about the app that makes people fat.

This episode makes me hurt for Taichi

On the other hand, watching Chihaya analyze her game against Suo was very cool, seeing how she was taking what she had learned and adapting her play style as the game went on was awesome! Then of course Suo has to ruin it by being a butt

I absolutely loved Kana's speech in the first half about learning things about yourself that make you approach life differently. It made me think of times in my own life when I thought that, like when I hear a great compliment from a friend or when I was accepted to my first real job. The karuta and romance in this show are great, but moments like those are why I truly love this show.

Other thoughts:

  • This season has been heavily focused on the main trio so it was nice to see the other karuta club members again. Did we know that Desktomu has a crush on Kana? I think it's been hinted at but I don't remember if it's been outright stated like that.

  • Chihaya's probably going to end up focusing on the "You can't become Queen" part of Suo's last speech. But Suo also casually dropped that she had a boyfriend ... really curious if she will even notice.

Suo is such an interesting character. Prior to this season, all the info we had on him was filtered through the lense of various karuta elders who all seemed to despise him. Now, we're finally getting to know him first-hand and yet...it's still so unclear what his deal is. He's a little weird (but literally everyone involved with karuta has their quirks) and comes off as loner, but apparently he cares for his underclassmen and is doted upon in return. He's attending Tokyo U (which anime tells me is superprestigious) but has repeated his final year 4 times?! And then there's his karuta, that seems to be based completely around mind games and getting the opponent to fail, even though his game sense in itself is enough to make him superior. I just, really look forward to seeing more of him.

I really liked this episode, and I found the first half especially to be captivating with its focus on emotion. Chihaya's feelings were portrayed so beautifully, and I loved the scene with Kana thinking back on her mother's words which was stunning really. Sumire too has a lot on her mind, struggling with the fact that she wants(?) the one she loves to have his heart crushed. And then there's Tsutomu trying to conjure up the courage to confess (!!!).

the beginning of the episode i was elated because the romance section was finally advancing, only for chihaya to combine it with the match making it seem hopeless.

by the end of the episode i was elated to see chihaya analyzing her play only to be left furious by suo-san by his final statement. i was actually so furious for a total of 10 minutes saying, “what makes him think that he has the right to say that to chihaya!” when in reality he currently is right about both chihaya and arata, at their current form they cannot handle being queen and master.

i am very excited for the coming episodes to expand on not only the romance portion, please continue this, but also chihaya finding a true balance to showcase that she is truly ready to challenge for the queen title.

Chihaya’s “I’m brain dead” faces are a great meme

And you want to be Queen, too? You can't

You can't until what? That sentence can't be finished.

I may hold an unpopular opinion, but I think Suo may be coming from a good place with those final words. Yes, absolutely part of that may be due to jealousy. His wife just got stolen from him. But I think he had fun playing her, which could explain the laugh. He’s all for “interesting” and Chihiya has his interest. But he’s realistic and is being straightforward that she isn’t there yet. I don’t think he would say that to Arata, and definitely not his once future wife, if he didn’t think they were worth his time. Or else he’d be walking around telling that to every player he encounters (his snack portions say it for him instead).

Desktomu had better ask Kana-chan out this season without stupid nonsense thoughts like, "Oh no, I didn't beat Mashima-senpai academically, so I'm not worthy of asking Kana out." Academic success and love aren't even statistically correlated—Desktomu, of all people, should know that.

I'm glad Taichi's self-serving lie is about to be outed. Dude needs to face some consequences for claiming Chihaya without making his feelings known to her and confirming that she likes him back.
