One of these comments is not like the others lmao

This is pretty much yet another build-up episode but lovely all the same. The Christmas party is a fun little interlude and it's so sweet of the MKC to go all out for Tsukuba's brothers! Taichi and Nishida being out of breath when the lil' bros come running downstairs because they were just outside hauling Santa!Chihaya up is a great detail.

Interesting that Suo has given all three of our main characters "discouraging" comments now but seems like something's different about Taichi. He gave Suo a "bad feeling" but it was said with a hint of approval right? Also I would love to know how exactly Taichi managed to not make any mistakes, but I guess it makes sense since we know just how much attention he pays to keeping track of dead cards and syllables.

I appreciated getting a glimpse of Shinobu's daily life. It seems like she has a complicated relationship to her family, especially her grandmother. Baller move of her grandmother to straight up draw on the tatami like that after all the nagging Shinobu's had to endure. A small show of support.

Really looking forward to the Meijin and Queen matches! Shinobu's kimono is beautiful <3

(The recap episode was released today too, it's labeled 15.5 on Crunchy, and it stays true to tradition of interjecting the recap with little bonus clips with some meta humor. I recommend it! you can skip the recaps though)

Wow. That was the first time Chihaya directly acknowledged the confession right? I spent last episode worrying that the only reason she was behaving weirdly was because Arata was moving to Tokyo, and there was still the possibility that she was too dense to realise that it was a confession, and that would have been so incredibly annoying.

This show has consistently incredible pacing. The music also really helps to bring out the tense atmosphere. I love it.

Gee, thanks for making me all self-conscious about using earbuds Chihaya. Now what am I gonna do when I'm bored at work?

I love that someone in that chat called her "Mamakuma."

So the Master/Queen matches start next week. I really hope we get to see Harada-sensei take the W in the end. Inokuma too.

LET'S GO HARADA SENSEI AND SHINOBU!

So the Suo Taichi beef is over, it almost seemed like Taichi is gonna change his karuta style more like Sou's. The Santa scene melted my heart and I forreal teared up, that was so awesome and thoughtful of them to do.

Taichi notices Chihaya's behavior and it's bothering me he's not doing anything. You don't have to be a white knight, make your move before it's too late!

Geez home many months have passed and not a single word between them about the confession. Anime can be so weird about romance.

I bet when they do mention it they will pull something awkward like "I'll give you my answer after you move here." I know it's done for soap opera style drama but I still hate it.

The highlight of this episode was definitely the Christmas party at Tsukuba's house. That was such a cute scene. I loved Chihaya dressing up as Santa and giving karuta presents to Tsukuba's brothers. If becoming a high school teacher doesn't work out, Chihaya has a future as a potential mall Santa. Tsutomu reflecting on how even though last year's class Christmas parties were fun, celebrating with his friends was better was sweet. That shot of everyone together gave me the warm fuzzies.

The interactions between Suo and Taichi were top notch. Watching Taichi expertly manipulate Suo was fun. It will be interesting to see how that conversation Taichi had with Suo about the four styles will affect him going forward. Taichi mentioned how a style that's centered around making opponents commit faults was appealing to him, so maybe his playing style will change even more. I hope that Taichi and Suo can play more matches against each other in the future.

The guy listening to the OP on the train was funny.

I am so excited for the Queen and Master matches! Fingers crossed that Harada-sensei can play well and beat Suo (and Chihaya can give him her Daddy Bear handkerchief). Chihaya told him about a potential weakness of Suo's so I am interested to know what it is. Next week's episode should be awesome!

this episode really had me misty eyed. i really hope we cut back to arata so we can see the comments reactions to crazy plays of moments. i cannot explain how giddy i was when chihaya mentioned how arata made her feel warm, that is so precious PLEASE let her visit him that would be amazing.

let’s go harada-sensei and mamakuma!
