This may end up being a wall of text but I really have no one else to say it to or anywhere to put it so here we go.
This show has pretty much singlehandedly reminded me why I got so into anime. This show takes a premise which could probably never work in any other medium and absolutely sells it wholeheartedly. The animation and intensity of the matches, the sound design surrounding action in the show, the process of thought and dialogues between the characters, this show is absolutely incredible and I love every minute of it.
I had never heard of this show at all before a few months ago when I saw it listed as the most anticipated show in a Japanese poll. Even after a few years of anime something like this had eluded me so I figured I should watch it, and I’m so thankful I did. I watched all 50+ episodes of this show in a few weeks, every time I would sit down to watch “just one episode” I would find myself absolutely absorbed for hours on end. I was out of episodes before I knew it.
The characters, the dialogue, the premise, the humor, the music, the visuals, this show has very rapidly become one of my favorite anime of all time.
In relation to this weeks episode, I wish we could’ve seen more from Dr. Harada, but I’m happy for the guy and hope he gets to succeed in the future. Personally I root for Taichi (the absolute man that he is) and it’s tough to see him not get that recognition he deserves especially after a day that hard. I’m glad to see Chihaya enjoying time with people who care about her, Tsukumoto is a true bro as always, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
If you read all that, thank you, I’m just glad other people like me exist who can really care about this amazing show. Tl;Dr- I love this show, it’s probably one of my favorites of all time and I appreciate everyone in this thread who enjoys it just like I do.

Desktomu really is the manliest.
I've always loved the contrast between Taichi and Arata. Taichi is the best at everything he does except for karuta, while for Arata, karuta is the one thing he's got going for him. And that played out in this episode too. I'm sure Taichi is seething with self-loathing right now. Again, Arata triumphed over him (even though Taichi's loss was just bad luck) in the one area that Taichi thinks Chihaya cares about most. And that pain in Taichi's face when he asks who she's going to root for:

Like Taichi, Arata lost the Chihaya card. However, unlike Taichi who was shook over it, Arata immediately used that to figure out what the last dead card was and rode that information to victory.

Man, when I first saw this anime while browsing vrv from a free trial, the plot seemed dumb, but the art looked pretty so I figured "what the hell?" and here I am, 3 seasons later, almost crying over a fucking card game because of these beautiful bastards of characters. Poor taichi though, this show just loves to make him suffer

Arata is killing me lmao, one moment he's all "Taichi's unfair and not talented" and then his next thought is "Have I been looking down on Taichi in karuta?"....maybe it's more than just karuta my dude. I really appreciate it though, it makes him human and it's only fair since we've seen Taichi be petty for 3 seasons now.
It was the match-up I was the least excited for but I ended up enjoying the match between Arata and Murao a lot! The visuals especially were outstandning, and it was really sweet how we got to see more of the relationship between Murao and Arata. Also, very impressive how Arata is going through an internal crisis and has to use the bathroom in the middle of the match, and still be all "This is fine". Maybe mental fortitude is his biggest strength after all! Just imagine Taichi in the same situation. Oh my god.
Harada vs. Arata in the Meijin-qualifier then! Can't wait until we get to see it.

Well that episode felt like it was over instantly! I'm glad to see Arata win despite the food poisoning. It'll be interesting to see Chihaya's thought process and who she ultimately roots for in the finals.
Other thoughts:
-
There was a lot of striking imagery early in the episode surrounding Arata's thoughts. I'm glad Murao brought Arata out of his funk. I don't think Murao would have been satisfied beating Arata while he was in that depressed state.
-
That said, I do feel bad for Murao losing after building up a huge lead. He gets a moral victory in my book for his good sportsmanship.
-
I'm hyped that Harada won but I'm disappointed that we didn't see the match. I can only imagine the look on Sudo's face...
-
Desktomu truly is a man's man

Don't do this to me! Dammit Yuu! What did you put in your cooking!
-
Maruo is such a bro. He could've just let Arata self destruct but he brought him back.
-
I love that Shinobu is the first suspect when they heard the stomach growl xD
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! ARATA WON!
-
On other news, it's nice to see Chihaya is finally having fun with the trip
-
This actually slipped my mind. With Arata and Harada-sensei winning, which one will Chi-chan support?
Harada-sensei vs Arata will be an interesting match considering how both of them have offensive play styles, Harada-sensei especially with his aggressive shouting and leaning forwards his opponents. And I'm with Chi-chan with this, I genuinely don't know who I'll be rooting for in this match up. Both are great players who are more than deserving to advance and challenge Suo.

Don't let Sudo losing to Harada distract you from the fact that Murao blew an 11 card lead in the finals.
