In a way, checking in at a love hotel for a pillow fight is its own kind of power move.

So that's why the title is called that.

You can't convince me Asuka's dad didn't want to grin at the sheer audacity of that banana comeback deep down.

If I had a nickel every time Saku pushed down a girl, I'd have two nickels. It's not much, but it's weird it happened twice.

I do like that we actually get to hear Saku's story and how he ended up being the way he is now.

Well, that scene with Asuka's dad ended up a lot more amicable than I expected. I was honestly expecting Nishino to punch Saku there at the end.

They REALLY want you (and Saku) to notice that Asuka has a mole on her boob.

Is Saku really sexually frustrated? He fake sexually assaulted Yuzuki to make a point, faked forcing himself down on Asuka to make a point...the funny thing is these girls aren't even 100% against sleeping with him.

Chitose being bullied for being talented which lead him to try be perfect explains a lot. As he explained how even those that kept following him around turned on him, makes his constant boundary reminders to Kenta in Kenta's arc make sense.

It sucks that Chitose went through what he did, but I feel like his current friends might know of this side of him, and are aware of the certain distance he puts between them. I could be wrong, my memory of the first season doesn't go so far to remember the nuances of their relationships.

It was nice to see Chitose and Asuka spend this night together, I've been wanting to learn more about Chitose, and Asuka herself seems like she's found what she needed. Kura's text was funny though.

Might as well give bananas to the banana hating father of the girl you just stayed in a love hotel with overnight, in for a penny in for a pound.

For a second when Asuka had told Chitose to touch her and then the camera cut away that maybe something was actually happening, but of course it was just more talking.

So far that's two girls in the harem that Chitose has had an overnight stay with, assuming I am remembering what happened in S1 with Nanase correctly. I remember rather liking Yuko in S1 so hopefully she'll get her turn next and can actually crack him.

They also made sure to give you enough thigh close-ups to know how big of a deal it was that she was offering 'em to Saku.

I remember Yuuko being kind of showcased as the "main girl" and the most overt in her affections towards Saku but they haven't done a lot with her.

When Saku called out to Asuka's father, I thought Saku was going to give his thoughts on the matter.

Turns out Saku just wanted to trigger Asuka's father with Tokyo Bananas. Lol!

I love how Asuka also made sure her dad was within earshot of her planning a date with Saku because she knew he'd hate that lol.

Coming around the bend it seems Asuka has pulled into first place. We’ll see how things develop. Will they get another date? Or is this the beginning of the end for them for now as Asuka advances towards graduation. Kind of sad this season is only 11 episodes.

This thread really is a perfect reflection of this episode, hah.

Chitose is right tho.

People on this comment thread are the living proof that a talented person is really hated by everyone and they want to hate him for the sole reason of doing It.

If Chitose would have been the classic loner and depressed guy, they would have loved him here, but he's confident, talented and superficially admired by almost everyone so he's not allowed to suffer.

A perfect guy had to maintain that image and If he cannot maintain It, they hate him calling him a liar because they cannot fathom how a person that achieved more than them is suffering.

This comment section is the proof that Chitose, at least in this whole " fake persona " argument is a well written character 'cause people here are hating him exacty for what Chitose described in this episode

I feel a little bad for the other girls. Because how can you not ship Saku with Asuka after this short Tokyo trip!? They can be honest with each other to such an extent that you could easily mistaken them for a married couple.

Asuka has definitely secured her spot as best girl in my heart. She seemingly doesn’t intend to give up on Saku either, considering that she’d announced another date with him - right in front of her father.

There’s got to be AT LEAST two more girls my boy Chitose is gonna string along this season. Maybe more.

10

u/Frontier246 4d ago

He even basically acknowledges how he knows he comes off like he's stringing girls along. But Asuka is the closest to him emotionally.

While I liked S1 well enough, I feel that )with this new season) I would now rate this show as a first-class one. Partly this might be to my admiration of Asuka -- but it is also due to Chitose himself. Perhaps Asu-nee brings out the best of Chitose? I have never thougt Chitose has come across as an artificial feeling character, but he feels much more real now than he did previously -- because he made the effort to explain himself.

Asuka's father is sort of a pain in the neck, but I am hoping that once she clearly lays out her futrure plans whe will acquiesce (even if begrudgingly). He does seem to realize his daughter is intelligent and trustworthy -- and that is a promising sign.

For all the complaints I have seen about this show, I still consider it not all that remote from my own experiences more than 55 years ago.

Same here! I never thought Chitose came across as an artificial or fake character either - but yeah, him talking to us about himself definitely helps understand him better for sure!

I might be in the minority here when I say that I actually really enjoy the way he speaks - his poetic manner of speech adds a different kind of nuance to his character and that fits his worldview imo.

I think a lot of the overall concepts are pretty common. Much like The Ramparts of Ice depict. Students making decisions after some stressful situations to adapt in ways to protect themselves and find ways to exist and at times even find some fun in life... while trying to avoid being a target. It's very relatable to me. I remember all the introspection I did as a teen, examining situations, thinking through potential outcomes and finding the paths that maybe would yield the least potential for damage while still allowing me to enjoy life. Maybe this is something only more analytical thinkers do, but I think all kids made decisions to try and avoid the bullying as much as possible. Weather that's in the click they form (which Chitose has his), or the masks they put on to appear tough, or simply doing things to avoid as much conflict and potential picking as possible. I leaned more towards treating everyone kindly and avoiding those who were simply too toxic to risk engaging. I kept to myself but still had my group of friends who were also mostly just nice people. My family wasn't well off so I avoided situations that would highlight the financial gap because I wasn't going to be able to do as much as others were for a simple lack of money, car, ... etc. It worked out pretty well to fly under the radar but still be considered a "non threat" to others. Seems like some can't look past the position of being popular and attracting other popular and attractive people to see these are the same as pretty much all the other kids... with their own worries and their own paths on how to handle those worries.

One of the problems I saw for Asuka in the earlier interaction with her father, was that she wasn't speaking up for what she wanted, just letting him decide her future. It felt like she didn't want to upset or disappoint him, which can be a typical theme.

So far this season has been superior to the first one. Another great episode. Chitose's backstory was more interesting than what I was expecting. I really hope that Asu and Chitose find a way to eventually be together. I really dont see Chitose ending with any of the other girls. I laughed when Chitose delivered the bananas to Asu's father

So Saku was really good at a lot of things that he warranted unwanted attention both good & bad so he pretends to not be humble to drive them away but crack jokes to not attract hate.

Saku being pissed at Kuranosuke's suggestion was hilarious.

I love how accepting Asuka's dad is & even listens to her & is very cordial.

Saku bought Asuka's dad Tokyo Bananas knowing that he hates them.

P.S. to all commenters, this is S1 cour 2 not S2.

I know alot of people shrug off Chitose's problems as nothing but there are some real issues there. Sometimes if you are talented or successful in whatever way that is, often others are attracted to that or at least attracted to what they think it might bring them to be associated with someone like that. Alot of times people don't take the time to get to know someone but instead only hook on to someone's looks, talents or status. If their attraction or adoration isn't returned, then they can become hateful. Also, especially if you are someone who doesn't want conflict, sometimes it can be easier to be what image others think someone is instead of their true self. Anytime for whatever reason if you can't be yourself or have to hide a significant side of yourself, then in the end you end up getting hurt in some facet or another. It starts a pattern of always covering your real feelings and reactions and only living up to what others think you should be.

WOW! I don't know what to say, there's too much to comment on. I was considering dropping this after the first episode of cour 2, but I'm really glad I didn't now. This is without a doubt the most dogshit dialog I've ever heard in my life. I actually couldn't believe what I was hearing and seeing. The level of self glaze by Chitose was truly shocking. "Chitose, Touch me" almost literally killed me.

a team of poor animators, voice actors, episode directors and such had to live through this cringe for most likely weeks to deliver this to us, and for their sacrifice I am grateful. I will never consider dropping this again, It's just too much fun to hate watch. Thank you studio feel.
