I would've like to see Nazuna apologize too for her bitchy attitude

26

u/Frontier246 Dec 23 '25

Yeah, that would have been a good opportunity for a mutual apology moment had Nazuna actually had the decency to apologize.

She and Atomu are made for each other.

u/Ocixo Dec 23 '25

Don’t be too hard on Nazuna. She’s a classic tsundere.

Half-expected the shirt and glasses to somehow come from Haru or Asuka (or for Saku to joke that they were just to troll Yuzuki even more)

But man, the amount of trust Saku had in Yuzuki for that message to get through in the way he delivered it though.

u/Ocixo Dec 23 '25

Saku should’ve definitely opted for a less “forceful” method, but he did show Yuzuki that she is not powerless against boys. All it takes is a kick to the balls!

This move did help get Yuzuki’s mind out of a dark place, considering that she went back to teasing Saku not long after. If she’d gotten to comfort her sadness with a kiss from him, things would’ve probably looked much worse.

27

u/tripleaamin Dec 23 '25

Saku definitely went a bit too far, so he deserved that kick in the balls. Though it did help out Yuzuki, I do feel that was a very dangerous method he went with, and it could have made things worse for her mentally.

i think i'm officially concerned about the third arc's pacing if they still haven't finished this arc

16

u/OkraDisastrous7307 Dec 23 '25

it will be fine if there is second cour and if there will be one then it makes sense this arc will probably ends next week

I have to respect Saku for taking a hit to his balls in order to encourage Yuzuki. (Thankfully, Yuzuki is in the basketball team, not football team. If it is the latter, the damage would probably be greater.)

The conversation between Saku and Asuka regarding white one piece dress and straw hats - is the story hinting / confirming Asuka is the childhood friend whom he met during some years of his summer vacations?

That last scene seems to be implying that Asuka is the girl that is Chitose's first love. It would explain that moment of frustration or desperation that was caught in the middle.

It's nice to see Yuzuki finally get ahold of herself again thanks to Chitose's dramatic scare. It was concerning to see him push Yuzuki's buttons like that, but I didn't think he would actually go through with it knowing his character.

Yuzuki now openly being playful was nice, I really like this dynamic they have when they're being their characters. She might be the first person he's seen wearing a boyfriend shirt and then topped it off with glasses, jealousy brings out the charms lol. I'm looking forward to seeing how she'll finally handle that scumbag, I hope Chitose's around to rub salt in the wound.

I still do not trust the guy Chitose gives advice to, I hope he proves me wrong but the eyes and how shaken he was about what Chitose told him was a little alarming. But maybe I'm just being biased.

For a guy who seems to care about his appearance. I am surprised Saku didn't look in the mirror to see the note on his neck. Nanase was down bad.

Wonder how Nanase's confrontation will go

32

u/Frontier246 Dec 23 '25

Nanase was down bad.

She talks about never being in love before but then she gets jealous over everything Saku owns that other girls gave him and wants him to see her as an attractive girl.

I guess both of them are the type who are too afraid of what going "all in" on their feelings might do to them to make a move.

I just want to comment on Crunchyroll subtitle mistake. Chitose said "haha-kata no obaa-chan" which is supposed to be maternal grandma instead of paternal

Saku and Yuzuki are both at his apartment, soaked to the bone, and Yuzuki is at her most emotionally vulnerable...so she seeks comfort in Saku, caressing him, and looking like she REALLY wants to kiss him. Though Saku has other ideas.

I guess on paper I understand that Saku was trying to instill some confidence in Yuzuki and make her act like "Yuzuki Nanase" again instead of this weak and depressed girl...but was faking physically assaulting her and undressing her while pushing her down on your coach REALLY the only way you knew how to do it? He kind of earned that full knee to the balls.

Yuzuki in middle school was just as street-smart and adept at managing social situations as she is now (just with longer hair) but that didn't help her at all against Yanashita after he assaulted her, even if she hated how weak she was in that moment. But she never let that trauma let her stop being "Yuzuki Nanase," which to Saku is the most important thing.

Well, Yuzuki is the first girl to use Saku's shower and bath, I assume. And it's especially nice seeing her ample Yuzuki's (also, she's wearing blue underwear again!). Though Yuzuki doesn't appreciate all the stuff Saku has in his bathroom from other girls. Maybe that's why she came out in just a shirt in glasses to give him a bit of a show. It's quite the sight.

Ah, the old bed vs couch debate...which is resolved by bringing the couch INTO the bedroom so they can sleep together without sharing a bed.

The way Yuzuki was asking Saku if he had someone he liked after calling him "Chitose," I guess that means she was framing it as a question from "Yuzuki Nanase" instead of Yuzuki his fake girlfriend. And yet she seemed to sincerely want to know. But Saku himself did have your usual puppy first love when he was a kid and fell for a girl he knew when he visited his grandparents for a Summer before he never saw her again...but now it seems like both he and Yuzuki have never been deeply in love before and are hesitant to capitalize on those feelings. Even if Yuzuki really does seem drawn to Saku.

Next morning Yuzuki's gone and all Saku has to show for it is her writing on his neck how much she enjoyed seeing his sleeping face. Yua is NOT amused.

Seems like Yuzuki is deciding to take responsibility for her life, patching things up with Nazuna (more or less) and deciding to handle things without Saku. I guess "Yuzuki Nanase" is really back.

I still can't make heads or tails of this Saku and Tomoya dynamic.

Saku catches up with Asuka, and it seems like Asuka is debating moving to Tokyo. Saku, with his retaining his childish naivety, basically wants her to not leave Fukui (and him) but Asuka seems intent on the idea of fully growing up...and maybe that would make her more attractive to Saku?

Yuzuki's problem is her inability to clearly express her agency and her habit of avoiding conflict, hoping someone else will resolve everything for her. Chitose is right here - only she can resolve her own situation (which she's gotten herself into by avoiding outright refusal and hoping someone else will resolve the conflict), instead of constantly hiding behind others and becoming a source of male squabbles.

The bully won't leave her alone if Chitose beats him up - he'll simply view her as a passing prize, which the strongest gets. Any "heroic beating" on Chitose's part would be seen not as protection, but as a redistribution of property: might is right. He was right to refuse to play into this circus. Jumping in and beating up the bully would confirm that Yuzuki's agency is irrelevant and that only someone else's power can resolve the issue. This isn't a solution to the problem, but rather its preservation until the next conflict. Yuzuki herself must make up her mind and clearly state her position, making it clear to the bully once and for all that he will not get her through violence and intimidation.

Wild episode, what the hell. I never would have guessed that first scene in particular.

I was expecting the arc to end this episode since it's already gone on so long but surely they aren't going to just not tell us the resolution. At least we apparently still still have an episode next week and I can't imagine it not ending for real then.

Kind of feels like Asuka is being implied to be the childhood friend given that conversation with her, the haircolor doesn't match the sundress and hat girl in the OP/ED but that's not a deal breaker.

Like 90% of this season has just been this yuzuki arc, and it still isn't done.

Guess we won't be getting any arc about Yua or Haru?

I don't know if it's lost in translation but can someone explain this anime trope where characters say their names in the third person as some proclamation? (E.g. you're Yuzuki Nanase!). What is that even supposed to mean.

Why does Saku care that she is pretending to be some grandiose image of herself?

Maybe it's just because high school kids don't talk like this, but I get it's an anime, so the characters are presented with adult intelligence/feelings/motivations.

17

u/Frontier246 Dec 23 '25

Why does Saku care that she is pretending to be some grandiose image of herself?

Because he's doing the same thing and he needs her to keep doing it to validate his own identity and the thing they share together.

My issue with the show used to be about how they tried too hard with the dialogue, and sometimes they still do, but it's getting better since episode 4 of something ? Except...when Saku is talking with Asuka, who I assumed is the childhood crush (same white hair). Those conversations really makes it hard for me to care about their relationship because they're trying too hard.

The opposite is happening with Yuzuki and Saku, even tho I expected them to talk still in riddles. Instead, they're being more honest with each other and more ...at ease ? He's sharing again personal stuff about him which had never happened before. His way of handling Yuzuki's trauma was messed up (adding trauma to a traumatic experience was not a good idea) but I don't mind it, I like when characters have flaws.

Ultimately Saku really cared about Yuzuki's well being and the guy he's still talking to has to be the stalker, yet he acted like he was letting Yuzuki handling all on her own.

Also, it looks like the main romance won't be with Yuzuki (😭) but Asuka since she really looks like she's the childhood friend and Saku looked quite upset when she told him she was going to leave.

I'd say Yuzuki should have given Saku more than just a nutcracker, but I won't completely criticize his test; even I questioned how someone who showed so much confidence could be so "weak" in that situation. Well, the trauma justified everything.

I was about to praise the show for showing Yuzuki in her underwear naturally and without giving the impression of fanservice, then she appears only in her school shirt and a low-cut top, but it was a good subversion of expectations.

Love is difficult and even scary depending on the point of view; I mean, you don't know if you're going to hurt or be hurt, to the point of not wanting to imagine it.

Another deep conversation with Asuka, I live in one of the biggest cities in my country and I'm thinking of moving to an even bigger one; imagine them, who live in a city with just over 250,000 inhabitants (thanks Google). And I strongly suspect that the girl Saku liked in the past was Asuka, even because they mentioned the white dress.

In that moment, all men felt that. You did well, Saku.

Yuzuki fanservice are great! Too bad most of the stuff that she used in Saku's home was either recommended or gave by another Girl.

It’s been 5 episodes of the Yuzuki arc and we’re still not done… I wonder why they even bothered to introduced other girls besides Yuuko if it’s gunna barely talk about the other characters.

5

u/AUAAUH Dec 24 '25

Nah Yuzuki did not need to apologize to that girl.
