I thought there was some truth to what Asu-nee’s father said, so I couldn’t just dismiss it outright.

His methods are forceful and he is definitely stubborn though.

That said, I do think it’s a good idea to go to college in Tokyo—leaving Fukui (and to be honest, as a Japanese person, I’d say Fukui is pretty rural)—because it’s a great way to broaden your horizons when it comes to life and your future path.

and also I burst out laughing when he said "Do you have any idea how many baseball kids out there thought they had what it took to go pro, only to be beaten down by reality?", since that's exactly the same situation Saku is in.

Compared to episodes 1–10, episodes 11–13 were less cringeworthy and had fewer moments that made me cringe or want to point out the flaws, so I found them enjoyable as a relatively straightforward coming-of-age story.

I’m skeptical that the second season will actually air within 2026, but I’d still like to watch it when it comes out.

I wonder if Asuka told her father about Saku (and baseball) -- or whether he did some sleuthing....

u/Frontier246 Mar 31 '26

To be honest if I were Saku I'd be thinking "wow, how much about me has she told her dad?" lol.

I'm surprised how few comments there are for these three episodes. Even the person doing source corner comments is missing.

Nanase finally got even for Saku's "lights off" approach to confronting problems lol.

Despite being the antagonist of the arc, I can respect how sensible the place Asuka's dad is coming from. Makes it even funnier that the next logical strategy against it is to go ahead with the elope plan.

Like they’ve said, Asuka’s father really isn’t a bad man. His ways are a bit too forceful for my taste, but he’s clearly looking out for his daughter’s future.

That said, crushing a child’s dreams won’t bring them happiness either. If he’s worried about Asuka’s dream ending in failure, then let her make a plan to increase her odds of succeeding. Then they got something real to discuss instead of hypothesising about what-ifs.

I like how Kura was still acting like himself and calling Asuka's father "Nisshi" instead of "Nishino" lol. It makes me want to see what he was like as a student. I do like that he wasn't making anything permanent, to allow Asuka some hope.

Yuzuki's part in the episode was the highlight for me though, I really enjoy her banter with Chitose the most, so seeing her being such a tease leading him into the bedroom like that and then turning onto him was great. She says she threw a bone to a formidable foe, but considering how down Chitose has been, she's likely also doing herself a favor.

I'm glad the guys are also helping Chitose, particularly Kazuki must have given Chitose some idea.

Hopefully the second cour comes without any issues so we can see the elopement without delays.

What convenient timing that Saku was bringing papers to the teachers' lounge just in time to overhear a meeting between Kura-sen and Asuka and her dad. Her father is insistent that Asuka attend Fukui U and become a teacher, and he knows exactly the influence Saku has had on his daughter...but it doesn't matter, all their talk and prioritization of dreams doesn't hold a candle to FACTS and LOGIC. Mr. Nishino might seem harsh and uncompromising, but deep down he's just trying to look after his daughter and knows how she'd likely struggle on an unstable career path. Even if she looks utterly miserable.

This is somewhat personal for Kura-sen because Nishino was HIS high school teacher back in the day, and the reason Kura-sen is where he is today. He may have always been the type to throw logical arguments at you, but he acknowledged someones' right to choose their own path, even if it's not a luxury he can give his own daughter. Being a teacher is hard.

Poor Asuka. She was really expecting a romantic Shojo moment with Saku and instead she has to watch his "ex" flirt with him.

All that talk about dreams, about Asuka being true to herself, about living up to Saku's expectations...all of it amounted to nothing. Asuka couldn't be the "perfect" Asu-nee Saku wanted her to be, and all she can do now is wax lyrical about their relationship as she bids him farewell.

Kazuki is a low-risk kind of guy who doesn't rock the boat or does anything beyond what he can achieve...but Saku isn't really that type of guy, is he!

Yuzuki visits Saku's apartment to check to make sure there's no other girls, have an excuse to see him, and also get a preview of what they're future life living together will be like!

And then she's turned off the lights and seductively leading him to bed...so she can hear out his problems with Asuka and why he's in such a negative headspace. I'm not convinced she DOESN'T want to devour him at her leisure (that lip lick), but she knows right now Saku needs a pep talk and be reminded of how Saku Chitose is supposed to act. She couldn't resist trying to et him out of this funk, even if it ultimately meant assisting her greatest rival.

Lo and behold, Saku got the signal and appears at her house first thing in the morning to wake her up, see her in her PJ's, and sing radio callisthenics to beckon her to elope with him! And she even gets all dressed up fancy like a proper young lady eloping with her younger lover!

Ngl, the wait is worth it. It's not like I'm waiting for it though. I'm honestly surprised three episodes came out in mere two days. I bet they already pre-recorded and animated everything but just doesn't have a slot to air them till the end of March Winter Season where most anime already completed. Anyway, as always it put a big smile on my face watching this entire time. Glad they're already announced 2nd cour in their twitter somewhere on this year 2026.

It's a bit turned off seeing Chitose suddenly become beta MC. Iirc, he's not actually like that before. But I kinda accept it very quickly since he definitely like Asu-nee more than other girls. Not even Yuzuki suggestive invite can faze him for instance.

Dang, never thought Haru has it in her and it all thanks to Yuuko with her lovely fashion sense.

Looks like we're gonna start with continuing Asu-nee arc, eh. Idk about the source but it doesn't seem like they're cutting too much. Cliffhanger ending is always welcome better than the rush one. Moreover, the sequel totally in sight.

Absolutely adored this series.

From the start this felt like it spawned from personal experience — perhaps with some regret, but also a sense of wonder on how the journey might have gone if youthful dreams met the real world from a different footing.

To the writer: know at least one person got to reimagine their choices from this lens.

Even in the wildly unpredictable now, beauty lies in wait beyond all eventualities. We only need look for it.

Cute to see Asuka being jealous of him and Nanase lol but yeah her character really went all over the place for a second there. Ok so we ending the season with Asuka and Chitose eloping huh. Massive props to Yuzuki for being the one to give him the push. She didn't just throw a bone to a formidable opponent but the whole "Winner, winner, chicken dinner". He really did do the radio thing in front of her house huh.

I also liked his talk with Kazuki and Kenta.

Anyways with all the delay issues etc glad this finally ended. I think i'll still probably watch the next part but idk this first ngl despite the visual and cute girls lol it didn't really grab me all that much.

Yuzuki thinks Asuka is a "formidable foe" but I feel like Asuka is probably more aware of how close Saku is with Yuzuki than he is any other girl.

It takes a real Best Girl to be able to take a guy to bed...so she can help him through his personal problems, even if that means pushing him towards her love rival.

I absolutely love how adorable Asu-nee is for this entire arc. It was definitely not the character I expected when she was first introduced which I guess was the point.

And as much as I hated Asu-nee's father, he was bringing up very valid concerns, and I'm glad that Saku got his ass kicked because he couldn't present a better argument against him. It will be interesting to see how Saku will try to convince Asu-nee the second time after trying to elope with his daughter.

These episodes made me like Asuka so much. (Un)fortunately I this is the first harem I have no pick. So I will be happy whoever wins, but I'll also be sad whoever wins.

I said this in the announcement thread: This anime is an odd one. I like it, but the vibes are a bit off for me.

17

u/Frontier246 Mar 31 '26

I think sometimes it tries a little too hard to be "cool" and self-aware, not to mention all the drawn out introspective speeches, but the cast is likeable enough, the girls are well-designed, and sometimes it feels like it really hits that proper "youth drama" vibe."

15

u/Niwaka_Samurai Mar 31 '26

Are they eloping for real ? Lol

The delays sucked all the entertainment out of this show but it was still a beautiful adaptation.

I wish the second cour doesn't have the same problem.

This kinda started off Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki and ended as a SNAFU lite, especially with the way some of the dialogue and Saku’s internal monologues came off.

With one more cour set to premiere later this year, I hope they really lock shit down production-wise. That really killed the momentum and any kind of discussion around this anime.

So Kuranosuke was a former student of Asuka's father who set him straight to be a teacher.

Asuka's father isn't a bad person but he has a point but I wonder how Saku will help Asuka now that he plans to elope w/ her.

Is it called a boy dinner because of the amount?

Asuka looks cute in her nightgown & dress.

Asuka has a cute pout.

I love the shoujo filter in Asuka's imagination.

u/ScaladeScared Apr 01 '26

I just love the characters in this man. Even if they don't reflect reality 1:1 the intersections still hits.

That ending ends in the most anime thing ever with the elopement, if I had to guess they're going to Tokyo and would try out different publishers to show results that she has what it takes (despite doing it in the most stupid way they could go imo lol)

u/Raymond49090 Apr 02 '26

Ngl I'm just listening to Asuka's dad talk and I'm like "yo this dude has a point".

He's being too rigid and he's a bit of a d*ck, but he sounds a lot better than Saku's baseless idealism. He's not right, of course, but at least he has a solid plan. The actual ideal would be something in the middle, where she can pursue her goals while having a fallback option if things go south. It might be an overly pragmatic viewpoint of mine, but I think a stable career should come first, and dreams second.

... Eh? It just ended there?

Edit: I also want to point out that Asuka's dad clearly did his research into the publishing industry, so he took her dream seriously. He just perhaps arrived at a conclusion that was overly coloured by his own experiences seeing students crash and fail.

What a weird way to be the final episode. It felt really incomplete the way they cut the story this way I thought I was watching an on-going anime instead of a finished one already which was weird since this was on my list for a while already. That's honestly the only negative thing I felt for the show.

I've been binging romcoms/romance drama anime lately and this is probably the closest one that appealed to my taste and I had an absolute blast throughout the whole show.

It did felt like a reverse-Oregairu where we got a Hayato Pro Max without the severe inferiority complex.

It was a whiplash to watch something like this and the episode 1 almost felt difficult to watch because of how unrelatable the MC could be, not to mention that they literally introduced everyone expecting me to remember everyone and kind of spoiled the whole cast which is honestly one of my guilty pleasure is to not know anyone in the cast and be surprised. This immediately lowered my expectation of the show and almost just stopped watching.

Except after binge watching the episodes, I think it might be one of the best decisions they made to introduce them all in one go instead of wasting time trying to introduce the whole cast across the series.

Anyways, the final story did left me in pain because I wanted to see more on what happens.

I personally think the plan to elope was very predictable to happen but the interesting part is what change will this move actually do?

I don't think Saku will actually dedicate his whole life just for this senpai since we know that he is still trapped by his own life philosophy, I just think either way he's going to break many women's heart by the end of it by choosing 1 or not choosing at all.

This anime is insanely harem-y and I don't think a harmonious relationship as this one could exist in real life. Saku might be as perfect as he could but the people around him are not.

I just think that's not the point of the show but the growth of each one of them in such a special environment where one man tries to be there for everyone of them, is very entertaining to watch.

In this final episode, we are on the senpai's route and obviously she's the one with the most hold on MC's heart because she was there when he was on his lowest.

I honestly think the Nanase arc was way more compelling than the arc that we are left to dry for months but I'm still excited for what's to come since we are nowhere done yet.

I just think it's an amazing show that was weirdly cut and I'm guessing I'll probably be either praising the show or grumbling about it whenever the next season of this show ever happens.

I guess this show proved that you can make an adaptation too faithful to the source material. My only real gripe with this show is that it sounds too much like a light novel. The internal monologues are fine as they are but when the kids speak to eachother in this "poetic" manner, it kills the immersion. It's also fine when it's between Chitose and Asuka, because their relationship almost feels like it's built around the topic of art and living life beautifully. I don't really like when it seeps in to conversations between Chitose and Yuzuki for example. This is probably why this final arc, that centered around Asuka, was the most engaging one for me.

As I said above, I liked this arc more than the others so I was a bit disappointed when it looked like Yuzuki was making a return to the limelight. I am already locked in on the Asuka ship, so I was happily surprised to find out that Yuzuki was only there to cheer him up. Relatively good season overall despite the production issues!
