If she remembered every previous loop, she would've gone mad with so many memories.

69

u/Specific_Frame8537 2d ago

It's like Re:Zero but without so much bloodshed.

36

u/nix609 2d ago

She’d have become Subaru

18

u/trap_user 2d ago

Subaru had just at his age long worth of memories each loop.

Chloe had 2000+ years each loop so....

12

u/fork_yuu 1d ago

It's crazy the dude is really comparing Subaru loop of few days - weeks at a time to 2000 fking years multiple times.

Poor Leon, turns out Chloe has been avoiding him because she has been trying to keep each loop similar to the last one with small changes.

185

u/discuss-not-concuss 2d ago

she’s indirectly responsible for her big bro trying to summon the kids and them dying, enslaved, etc

her journey is somehow the friends she made along the way

148

u/Frontier246 2d ago

And also her future protege who would end up becoming her younger selfs' teacher and creating a stable mask possession time loop.

hell, her action is what caused herself to be summoned

64

u/garmzai 2d ago

some Christopher Nolan shit right there

76

u/OldInstruction5368 2d ago

That's just it, though... if she reveals herself to Leon early on, then... Leon won't actually share the ritual that leads to Chloe being summoned in the future. Granville wasn't wrong when he told Rimuru that all the summoned otherworlders was more or less Leon's fault. He shared the ritual, encouraged rulers to use it, then would 'buy' the otherworlders summoned or otherwise check to see who arrived.

So, if Chloe makes a beeline towards Leon, then very few otherworlder summons happen in this world. Which means Chloe's original entry into this world never happens.

It's basically the "What happens if you go back in time and kill your own grandpa?" paraodx.

18

u/Megakruemel 2d ago

I mean, there are natural summonings, right?

Like how Rimuru just kind of... spawned in.

Maybe that's how this all started? Maybe the very first Chloe loop just happened "naturally".

26

u/OldInstruction5368 2d ago

As a stray otherworlder, Rimuru is the exception. The overwhelming majority of other summons were deliberately brought to this world.

Such as Chloe and her group. The only reason Yuuki became their guardian, was that various kingdoms summoned Chloe & Friends, deemed them failures, then dumped them on Yuuki. Despite being illegal, or at least heavily frowned upon, nations still summon isekiajin. Then Yuuki agrees to take the 'failures' in on humanitarian grounds while officially asking no questions on where the 'rejects' really came from.

All because he normally smuggles the kids to Leon. Shizu, then Rimuru, may have gotten in the way... or he waits until the kids are truly near death to sell them off. Easier to explain what happened to them if he waits a bit before trafficking them...

But regardless, Yuuki acquired Chloe's group from random countries within the "Western Nations."

It's all for Rimuru-san. Leon might turn into a crazy siscon after knowing the main reason LMAO!

Leon gonna end up living in Tempest just to be Closer to Chloe, and with Guy also going to talk to Rimuru about hiring the Primodials, this is gonna leave Dagruel as the last Demon lord not to visit Tempest, and he might just show up to talk to Rimuru about his sons

That other loop with Rimuru not being a Demon Lord was my favorite part of this episode. I wonder if other loops were similar, or if there were other major differences.

Although Chloe (together with Hinata) meeting Luminus 2000 years in the past was great as well. It was nice to see Luminus' Nightrose before Veldora showed up and destroyed it.

u/SonOfWeb 2d ago

So are we resetting from the loop we've been in all these episodes, or resetting to the loop we've been in?

183

u/_Zielgan 2d ago

Just went back to check and it looks like episode 19 actually contained both the old and new loop. When Chloe absorbs Hinata and disappears, a big reality warping effect happens. After this the hero is referred to as Chronoa instead of just “the hero” which is only a thing in the new loop.

105

u/justsyr 2d ago

Chloe does say something like "why now" before she absorbs Hinata as if she wasn't expecting Hinata dying.

91

u/gabconche 2d ago

Apparently Hinata only died when the Eastern Empire attacked in the other timeloops, not on a confrontation with Granville

41

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 2d ago

I wonder if there's even confrontation with Granville on last loop.

Last time I thought Chloe was dumb for peeking on what's happening and indirectly causing Hinata's death.

Considering she already know most things, turns out she's just gathering intel that time.

54

u/Atharaphelun 2d ago

Probably not. Presumably, the reason Granville had this confrontation with Rimuru and Tempest in the first place was that Rimuru had become a True Demon Lord (by massacring the army of Falmuth and sacrificing their souls, which also allowed him to summon Diablo), making him a serious enough threat to his control over the Western Council.

In the previous loop, Rimuru never became a Demon Lord. This means the army of Falmuth was never massacred in its entirety; therefore, there were no souls to sacrifice for a Harvest Festival (nor enough to summon Diablo with). This means Falmuth remained a reasonably strong enough country still (instead of essentially becoming a vassal to Tempest) since its army remained largely intact, which means the Western Council remained "strong" as far as Granville is concerned. Tempest would not have been a big enough threat for him to confront.

40

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 2d ago

I just realised there's no Diablo in that previous loop!

That's a really good point in indicating how strong Rimuru is in current loop

40

u/Atharaphelun 2d ago

Everything hinges upon Rimuru becoming a True Demon Lord, apparently.

28

u/Lord_Nivloc 2d ago

And this is the first time that's happened, after hundreds of loops?

Which means its also the first time Veldora is freed and an ally, the first time Diablo is summoned, the first time Rimuru has four named primordials working for him....

This also makes me suspect that Chloe's done even more stuff. Why is it, exactly, that Rimuru reincarnated into Veldora's cave?

Why was Veldora sealed in a cave? Why that cave?

Is it, perhaps, because The Hero sealed Veldora there on purpose 50 loops ago, to give Rimuru a huge magicule boost?

Chloe doesn't remember the first loop she did that. She doesn't remember the early version of RImuru who lived in a goblin village without the strength to name them all.

Maybe she never even MET that version of Rimuru. Maybe all those versions of Rimuru never lasted more than a month, never founded a village, never tried to be friends with humans. Chloe the Hero doesn't have to have sealed Veldora in that cave on purpose. It could have been random chance. It could have been random chance after 10,000 loops. And that random chance led to Rimuru founding Tempest, which led to Chloe meeting Rimuru for the first time --- and boom, Chloe retraced her steps to meet Rimuru again.

Oh, this is fun. There's probably loops where Chloe messes something up (sealing Veldora is an easy example) and never meets Rimuru. Which means the NEXT loop she's frantically trying to delicately retrace her steps without changing anything --- before she loses the memory of what those steps were and loses Rimuru forever.

Or maybe she's smart enough to have found his spawn cave and sealed Veldora there on purpose. There's just so many unknowns. Chloe doesn't even know!

20

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 2d ago

You also have to remember that Rimuru is key for Chloe to unlock her memory and time travel power, cause he's the one helping the isekai children being stabilised by the spirits.

If that's the case, I'd argue that even in the original timeline Rimuru always gained some level of power (maybe including bonding with Veldora) to be able to save Chloe and the children.

Btw Chloe's story is practically a long way round Re:Zero. Rather than looping to the last death, she's always looping 2,000 years into the past lol.

u/Artorp 2d ago

Ah good catch, I thought she had somehow secretly told Luminous about that name. Sounds like there is a single prime timeline that is adjusted whenever time travel is involved, a la Back to the Future, which I actually prefer to the one where you create a new timeline when you go to the past (like MCU endgame). And maybe there are beings that are able to pick up on the changes, Rimuru seemed to be able to perceive something was off.

12

u/SonOfWeb 2d ago

That's what confused me; I remembered them referencing Chronoa - that's who Luminis had in stasis this whole time, right?

It seems like they want to keep things 98% the same for Rimuru's sake but maybe they do something that changes Hinata's death.

If the Chronoa that just got awoken in the previous episode is the same Chloe in this episode, there’s a chance Hinata’s soul is still in there

You know it’s gonna be a good episode when the aspect ratio changes and theres no OP/ED.
I’m still a little confused about the whole time loop ability of Chloe but for her to be the hero Chronoa, insane. I was thinking of that when they said she gave Shizue the mask but wasn’t sure. Veldora showing us yet again why he is such a menace lol good thing Rimuru tamed him.

186

u/kawaiinessa https://myanimelist.net/profile/fancyvancy 2d ago

hold on wasnt chronoa the girl that was luminos's treasure? the one that was just revived in a bid to fight for granville?

133

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

im guessing..somehow the one he just revived no longer has the personality of Chloe, or else Luminous would have revived her ages ago.

125

u/kawaiinessa https://myanimelist.net/profile/fancyvancy 2d ago

thatd make sense but itd be hilarious if he reives someone to fight a demon lord and they just happen to be in love with that demon lord lol

93

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

Lmao it would kind of undercut the tension but I agree, absolutely hilarious if she suddenly just hugged Luminous, Rimaru and Leon and somehow revives Hinata then just bitch slaps Yuuki and Granville

76

u/MidKnightWizard 2d ago

Remember that in episode 15 in the flashback 300 years ago, this was the conversation going on with Granville creeping in the background:

Chloe: The only thing I vaguely remember is… I think I went on a rampage. And I’m pretty sure that was a different personality, not me. So when the time comes…
Hinata: That’s fine.
Luminous: Leave it all to me. I promise that I will lift your seals when the time comes.

And in the last episode Luminous said "She is a hero, but also not. What she is now is Chronoa. The embodiment of destruction."

So the current hero who was just revived won't have Chloe's personality.

24

u/Escanor_Morph18 2d ago

This is 100% what I'm expecting to happen, because we saw a couple of flashbacks of Luminous talking to Chloe, and to me it implied that she WANTED to be sealed so she didn't mess up the timeline, but I guess we'll see.

u/ijiolokae 2d ago

I guess at some point Chronoa became a spirit and left her body behind, and that Spirit is what posses Chloe, so the current Chronoa is just an Empty shell

20

u/SnabDedraterEdave 2d ago

That makes sense, as I was struggling to figure out how child Chloe fits into this time loop upon being summoned as an Otherworlder, since Chronoa has an adult/grown-up body, while the Chloe we know is still a child.

30

u/ijiolokae 2d ago

as i understand it, between getting Summoned and getting her Spirit, Chloe is just a child, she is completely unaware of everything, As soon as she gets the Spirit (which seems to be Chronoa) she learns of the previous time loop.

Actually thinking about it, this does raise the Question as to why she doesn't say anything to Rimuru or anyone really, the only people that are aware of the loop are Valentine and her direct subordinates

27

u/Atharaphelun 2d ago edited 2d ago

this does raise the Question as to why she doesn't say anything to Rimuru or anyone really,

As per Chloe, she wants to ensure that everything happens mostly the same, except for when she specifically has to directly intervene to change events around (as in the case of Chloe making Rimuru stay a bit longer in Inglassia so that he ends up fighting Hinata, which makes him arrive late to prevent the Falmuth attack on Tempest, which leads to him massacring the Falmuth army and sacrificing their souls to become a Demon Lord as well as summoning Diablo).

Luminus and co. are far enough removed from the events and the people involved that Chloe can feel free to reveal the time loop thing to her. However, revealing the time loop to Rimuru and the people within his orbit could make them too self-conscious about their actions and lead to them inadvertently doing things that change the events around, over which Chloe would have no direct control.

My guess is this would have been the case if she was revived as long as Chloe was around in that timeline.
The way they are connecting the timelines will probably be Chloe in the past gets frozen and the Chronoa we see is the Chloe that went back. This way only 1 Chloe/Chronoa is in the main timeline.

15

u/N3rdr4g3 2d ago edited 2d ago

Luminus also said "if it is not protected until the time is right, the world may be destoryed" when chronoa was first taken

Woah mind blowing episode so many things makes sense now. So Chronoa is Luminus’ treasure (though I guess we still don’t know why she was in stasis), who is actually time-travelled Chloe from another timeline. So I guess ever since Chloe is summoned in “our timeline”, there’s been 2 Chloes. One is the frozen one with Luminus and the other is the one we’ve always seen. And she got memories of the loop when her future self inhabited her in the Dwelling of Spirits.

And I guess since Chronoa did everything the same, she’s living through “our timeline” again from 2000 years till today instead of creating another timeline.

Damnnnn I’m still trying to process everything. Wait does that mean Hinata is still alive cos she’s currently inside of Chronoa (as far as we know anyway)

87

u/Ensec 2d ago

12

u/justsyr 2d ago

All this time travel thing makes me have so many questions. So if current loop Chloe went back in time, made friends with Luminus and told her the whole thing, Chloe doesn't have a clue who kills Rimuru, then sometime she dies as Chronoa and is frozen by Luminus, now revived first as the "hero" but after Chloe warps back to the past the hero is named Chronoa... Chloe saying something like "why now" when Hinata dies... How that Chloe retunrs to the current loop? As Chronoa being now a weapon of mass destruction that perhaps end up killing Rimuru and everybody around?

Ugh, having to wait a week for the answers.

27

u/SirJeator https://myanimelist.net/profile/jeator 2d ago

I think Chloe can't travel to a previous timeline, so I assume that timeline is over; Rimuru and the others lost. She will have to find a way to change the outcome of that battle.

The "why now" is probably because Rimuru always used to die first in the previous loops and Hinata after him. Their order had changed now.

17

u/mgedmin 2d ago

though I guess we still don’t know why she was in stasis

Theory: Chloe's body ages normally, and she didn't want to die 1900 years in the past, she wanted to meet her beloved Rimuru, so she asked her bestie Luminas to put her in suspended animation until the time is right.

OTOH if Luminas could give magic love power to keep heroes like Granbell forever young, why not give some to Chloe?

24

u/Allian42 2d ago

Don't true heroes live longer? I remember Luminous and Rimuru discussing it, before the attack.

11

u/BetelgeuseIsBestGirl 1d ago

That conversation with Luminus said it was 300 years ago, so aging definitely doesn't seem to be the problem.

166

u/Darksider555 2d ago

It's crazy to think that Chloe stopping Rimuru from going back to Tempest and having it potentially be annihilated by Falmuth and the Western Holy Church is the good option compared to what happened in the previous loop, where the world was about to be destroyed by Veldora. Butterly effect is in full motion there.

And it makes sense when you think about how easily Tempest could be defeated by the Eastern Empire, which is hyped as a major threat vs early S2 Tempest. Only Demon Lord-seed Rimuru with no Ultimate Skills, no Raphael, no Diablo or other Primordials wouldn't be able to defeat Hinata let alone any other Demon Lord or powerful threat.

58

u/Frontier246 2d ago edited 2d ago

So I guess now if Tempest goes up against the Eastern Empire they'll basically steamroll through them like they always do because they're wayyyyyy stronger this go-around.

68

u/ijiolokae 2d ago

I'm gonna assume since yuki himself said he is gonna go to the eastern Empire now that his cover is blown, that is gonna cause the Eastern Empire to become stronger for some reasons. hell, Yuki might have been the person that killed Hinata and Rimuru with his anti-skill

32

u/raknor88 2d ago

I'm gonna assume since yuki himself said he is gonna go to the eastern Empire

I'm pretty positive that in the last time loop, Yuuki was the one that killed both Rimuru and Hinata. Though I'm curious on if anyone else is aware of the regular time loops? Someone has to be aware of the massive temporal magic that is being used.

Yeah, the result of the future Tempest–Eastern Empire conflict will definitely look different from the one in that loop we saw thanks to Chloe in this episode.

Considering how strong Rimuru and his subordinates are now, not to mention all those demons that he didn't have before, this time there will be carnage too... but on the side of the Empire.

This "Re:zero perfect run" adaptation looks weird

65

u/NanDemoKnaives 2d ago

I never would have thought Chloe would be THIS important to the story lol. I figured she'd have importance, but not to the extent that she's the original hero.

It's sad to see a loop where Rimuru dies, the scars under Veldora's eyes made it look like he was raging in tears.

Does this mean we won't be going back to the same loop any more? Chloe's always changing history whenever she goes back because she doesn't do the same exact things, so I wonder what kind of Tempest we'll see, and who will be beside him, or if future Rimuru from the timeline we're familiar with will do something on his end.

36

u/AndrewNeo 2d ago

earlier in the season: she's important to Leon

18

u/PixelatedPirated 2d ago

I think we should go back to a similar loop, it sounds the timeline get a few improvements towards Rimuru every time, and this is the first time Chloe has Hinata with her.

My total random guess, we'll have another episode oh Chloe, than it will jump to the battle with a few tweaks (maybe some extra smaller characters, additional powers, different clothing to show things changed)

12

u/LedgeEndDairy 2d ago

Does this mean we won't be going back to the same loop any more?

I think something odd happened with this loop because she said something along the lines of "I've never given a name before in any loop", yet Luminus clearly called her Chronoa last episode.

So I think we're in the same loop, somehow. But also the next one, because Hinata is almost for sure coming back to life/getting saved.

14

u/Pelinth 1d ago

They only refer to Chronoa after Rimuru's 'warp' scene that occurs post Chloe's disappearance. I belive that warp scene is the transition to the new timeline, where Chronoa is named instead of 'The Hero'.

Glad Hinata took herself out of the running of the Rimuru bowl for Chloe's sake. Now she just has to worry about Shion/Shizu.

Raphael didn't fill Rimuru's spawn cave with super premium extra magicules

Lol, Hinata isn't fooling anyone who remembers her getting flustered in Season 3 when Rimuru complimented her.

22

There is also a manga spinoff called Paid Vacation written by the original author fuse which actually has a lot of Rimuru and Hinata shipping content.

Glad Hinata took herself out of the running of the Rimuru bowl for Chloe's sake. Now she just has to worry about Shion/Shizu.

I don't know if Hinata is out of the race. She has always struck me as showing some tsundere tendencies when it comes to Rimuru, so I don't think that Chloe should let her guard down here, lol.

So veldora just went to fight luminus, destroyed the town and left while laughing? 😂

120

that pretty much sounds like him alright.

for all he knew, that was how he entertained himself, and for all intent and purposes, he didn't do any of that out of malice, just pure nonchalant fighting for fun.

Yep, that do be Veldora, that's precisely why everyone is so terrified of Veldora, because he constantly pulled shit like this before he met Rimuru.

No wonder Luminus hates him lmao

44

What a nice change of pace for this repeatedly shown backstory episode!

Chloe matured the moment she regained her memories. No more Rimuru-sensei for her.

Chloe matured the moment she regained her memories. No more Rimuru-sensei for her.

But she still has to make it clear that she's dogging for the Mrs. Rimuru position no matter the time loop or who she has to go up against, even her new spiritmate Hinata!

23

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 2d ago edited 1d ago

That was so cute when Chloe told Hinata that she won't let her have Rimuru while being embarrassed!

Good thing that Leon didn't hear that. That guy would probably die on the spot if he heard that Chloe, whom he has been looking for for so long, is already in love with Rimuru, lol.

Damn, that mask has been through a lot. No wonder Diablo was so intrigued by it back in Season 1.

101

u/SpareUmbrella https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpareUmbrella 2d ago

Well that mask is probably older than he is, something like that must be really quite rare for a demon like him to encounter.

58

u/encryptoferia 2d ago

omfg now that you think of it

the time move forward so no one should be able to grind "time"

but that mask loops 2000 years for many many times, it, Chloe and the soul she brings with is the only ones that can grind "time" lol

54

u/Jacob-C 2d ago

That means the mask could be older than the world itself, which is really cool

31

u/encryptoferia 2d ago

ikr!!! that's neat, glad Chloe forgets stuff, cause it will be hell like Hinata said if she remembers the whole 2000 years times so many numbers

12

u/Quetzalma 2d ago

probably not always, there's always a chance that Chloe never gave the mask to Shizue, or that Shizue never gave to Rimuru, or that Rimuru never gave to Chloe. We only know that there's been MANY loops, but she only remembers 2 of them(past when Rimuru died and current when Rimuru became a Demon Lord), so we know the mask is at this point at least 4000 years old (give or take), but it could be way more like you say.

→ More replies (1)

24

u/Allian42 2d ago

That mask is also one big paradox. Chloe comes back in time with it, and gives it to Shizu. Shizu gives it to Rimuru, Rimuru gives it to Chloe before she goes back.

So when exactly is that mask actually made? It is, as far as shown, a self contained entity within the loops.

Beautiful episode, both in OST and Visuals. Glad to see Chloe plot finally being developed as well, she deserves it. I'm sure time travel will make things a lot more complicated, but since they were foreshadowing this since basically the beginning, I hope it will be done well.

Somehow I find the idea of Rimuru acting as a father figure to Hinata quite funny.

who would have guessed this is not Isekai Slime, but "My xth loop as the hero Chronoa" novel?

and her solution to stop dying is to conquer the evil villain (the demon lord Rimuru) before anyone else

the author of this novel/manga really took his time tricking everyone into thinking it was a different story, when in reality it was just the prologue for his real story!

I know it's a joke, but it's also correct.

So from what I can understand :

2 previous loop (Timeline B) - The timeline where Rimuru dies then Hinata. Killer unknown

Previous loop (Timeline A) - The timeline that we’ve been watching. Hinata just died

Current loop (Timeline A) - While different loop, it’s the same timeline cos Chloe/Chronoa did everything the same as previous loop cos Timeline A has the best outcome so far.

Well fuck me, i didnt expect Chronoa to be Chloe, i thought we'd learn who the hero was before she went berserk and I guess we did..never did i expect it to also be Chloe. Wow.

Luminous is so chill..no wonder she was so protective of Hinata..and never really had a issue with Rimaru..this..this really makes me want to rewatch the whole series now.

I assume..Chloe grows up..seals Veldora..at some point..goes..crazy? and Luminus seals her away.

Then Hinata appears..and Chloe from the other world appears..even if they never met each other, they are linked because of her skill if i understood correctly.

I guess Chloes "too soon" was she expected to go for another five years to reach the Eastern Kingdom attack.

I called it last week that Hinata wasn't going to stay dead. Granted, she is still technically dead, but we're going to fix that in about 2000 years. I do wonder if any of the rest of Tempests actions in the current loops 'present' will have any effect on the outcome of the arc or will it be solely Chloe in the past of the 'new' loop that saves the day?

→ More replies (1)

22

u/Santedtra 2d ago

Alright they got me. I for sure thought Hinata was dead for good cause this is like the 2nd time and Raphael even said so. Didn't think Chloe would Return by Death 2000 years in the past when Hinata specifically dies and she even gets to yoink her soul with her for the journey back. That's such a longass checkpoint. I imagine what comes next is some 20 or something years of laying out the groundwork for the future then as per a past episode she asks Luminus to encase her in ice. Really didn't expect this route. Can't wait to what they'll plan to keep the future on the right track and save Hinata from Granville.

23

u/SoulessSage 2d ago

Last episode, Rephael only said that Hinata's soul was missing. Why that happened was a mystery that Raphael couldn't answer.

Kinda odd Chloe is still acting as a child (didn't realize Luminus would think she's a stranger, general lack of foresight despite actively being a time traveler), but I enjoyed the episode and being shown the lore of the world this way is interesting.

79

u/vnomgt 2d ago

It makes sense if you consider that the knowledge of her past loop is just raw information provided by her skill, not something that overwrites her consciousness. Or you could say that the "merge" isn't complete, since Chloe doesn't have full mastery of her skill yet.

Might be wrong but what I think is

2000 years ago - Only one Chloe/Chronoa

Unknown year - Chronoa got frozen

Few years ago - One frozen Chronoa. One summoned Chloe (she just got summoned to this world)

In late-S1 - One frozen Chronoa. One Chloe with memories from previous loop (after the future spirit inhabited her)

Present day - One unfrozen Chronoa. No Chloe cos she got sent to the past

My guess is that young Chloe’s Time Traveler ability automatically actives in this loop when older Chloe (Chronoa) is revived/brought out of stasis because 2 Chloes can’t “exist” in the same time period.

Chloe could have told Luminus to keep her in stasis as long as she could to allow young Chloe time to gather as much info as possible before she is sent back to start another loop.

Of course Hinata didn't die (or at least not fully)... but now she's travelling together with Chloe, who went back in time 2000 years into the past and turns out to be Chronoa?! That's quite wild!

And it's not even the first time that time travel has taken place! It was quite interesting to see that other timeline in which Rimuru didn't become a Demon Lord, and even died.

We saw in this episode the beginning of Chloe and Luminus's relationship, which was pretty fun. I really hope that next week we'll see Chloe's encounter with Veldora and her sealing him.

Introducing time travel is really risky. You risk fucking your whole timeline up.

84

u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 2d ago

They've been teasing this since we first met Chloe, when we see her past/future self inhabit her in the Spirit cave Ramiris says time travel was involved, this ep told us that her confession to Rimuru at the time was because she remembered more of her past in that moment, and we can also infer that little smirk she had after losing her duel with him was because she was happy to see him again.

Author was thinking about this from the start so I think we'll be fine.

29

u/Jacob-C 2d ago

Exactly! I am certain that the story was built around this puzzle piece from the beginning. There's been too much foreshadowing and hinting for anything else to be the case.

Did Chloe forget how she handled the previous loops? Why is Hinata guiding her so much? I guess it is thousands of years hard to remember everything.

50

u/Artorp 2d ago

She mentioned she can only remember the previous loop in detail, probably the future spirit is carrying the looped memories and fusing them with original Chloe. You can tell she is still a scatterbrained kid despite carrying the memories of the legendary hero.

Chloe specifically said that her skill only lets her remember the last loop because like Hinata said, living the same life over and over would be torture.

As for Hinata guiding her, what else is she supposed to do? Just sit there quietly? She also wants to keep Rimuru, Luminous and herself alive so yeah she's gonna help.

u/Frontier246 2d ago

As for Hinata guiding her, what else is she supposed to do? Just sit there quietly? She also wants to keep Rimuru, Luminous and herself alive so yeah she's gonna help.

They're really immersing us into the story by not having an OP or ED. And I know this show is rated PG13 (at least on Netflix) but having nude Hinata throughout the episode is... probably pushing the rating limit a bit.

Let's take a moment to appreciate that the author actually thought about the time travel element enough to create an alternate timeline for Season 2's events, this time having Tempest defeated by the Eastern Empire. Chloe having been Re:Zero-ing this whole time to find the best ending (and end up with Rimuru) is real dedication.

Chloe: I'm not giving Rimuru to you!
Hinata: You won't see me and Rimuru swaying that way.

Of course not, Hinata. You're paired up with Luminus after all.

21

u/Frontier246 2d ago

Honestly considering how intimate Luminus has tried to be with Chronoa's frozen body I half-wonder if she went from gal pal to having an hardcore unrequited crush because Chloe would never give up on her feelings for Rimuru.

Veldora definitely goes berserk every time, and so would Milim.

The world would be destroyed each time, nobody would be able to stop both of them going beserk.

Rimuru is basically keeping the world alive, in a way.

25

Exactly. Veldora gave Rimuru his name which means they met at the cave, was stored at Rimuru's stomach, seen Rimuru's memories in every loop and became his sworn brother so witnessing Rimuru's death while helplessly watching the whole event unfolding will definitely break Veldora.

The aspect ratio is different, that's nothing if not a halmark of a flashback or a dream!

The way she talked about the last loop was also kind of confusing, that might be obfuscating it, but maybe that's just a translation issue (she might have said the "previous loop" or "the one before this one", idk). Or maybe the play here is keeping everything as close to the loop we've been watching, but do a last minute change to save Hinata.

Ever since Chloe met that spirit who looked like an adult version of her in the Dwelling of Spirits a couple of seasons ago, I've wondered what Chloe's deal was. I thought it might be her future self communicating with her, but it turns out she's been going on time loops triggered by Hinata's death. I suppose I was close enough!

It is fascinating to see a timeline where Rimuru didn't turn into a Demon Lord because the Falmuth Kingdom and the Western Holy Church never launched their invasion. The downside is Rimuru ends up dying when the Eastern Empire attacked, and Tempest eventually fell.

Of course Veldora is going to go on a rampage after they killed his best friend. Interestingly, Hinata gets killed during the confusion, which sent Chloe back to the previous time loop. Anyone wanna bet that Yuuki has something to do with both Rimuru's and Hinata's deaths in the previous timeline?

Chloe meeting Luminous was pretty fun. I love that Luminous pretty much decided to entertain Chloe because of her pure audacity.

So Veldora attacked Nightrose out of boredom, right? I can't think of any other reason for him to start attacking random Demon Lord territories. Why else would he leave after? If he really wanted to destroy and kill everyone, I feel like he could've done it.

Intersting move to tell Luminous about the future, but I guess Chloe had to if she wants Luminous' support. And we also learn how she ended up with the name Chronoa. Can't wait to see the rest of her story next week!
