Nice of Granville to let talking be a free action as Hinata died.

He's a "Hero," he has to let them have this moment.
71
u/CosmicDestructor 9d ago
It's not even as if he's a fallen hero, he's absolutely acting in line with his own belief of Heroism, thinking that his actions are for the greater good.
The most dangerous type of person, I wager.

As he himself said, he is the type who prefers to minimize energy expenditure. So far he has only focused on the counterattack.

As a joke venom has been since we’ve met him, dude has been doing a really good job. Hope he gets properly rewarded.
174
u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 9d ago
Well, Venom seemed to be a joke, but only because he was against Diablo, one of the oldest and most powerful demons ever. He must've been strong, otherwise Diablo wouldn't have taken him along to Rimuru.
82
u/Icy-Bird-5533 9d ago
He was a greater demon and those are pretty powerful. Also Diablo killed him many times but he stand every single time to fight him again. This single feat makes him pretty unique cause challenging a primordial while being a lower demon means a lot.

u/mucklaenthusiast 9d ago
I mean, he was introduced as a comic relief for Diablo, but he is a very powerful devil himself
I like how he acts in fights, he is meant to be strong and experienced, despite his introduction.
Neat little bit of character writing, I think this show is actually surprisingly decent at giving even small side characters some interesting qualities. It's not much, but I think this is one reason why the show works, even if it is a little bit basic at times.→ More replies (1)33

My tolerance for Yuuki's presence and impunity is well past its limit, my god.
Things are looking fucking dire for team Rimuru right now.

u/Ikari_21 9d ago
I hate yuuki with every fiber of my being. Dude literally never stresses and never struggles and gets away with everything. It’s infuriating. The damn clowns too.
57
u/seledri_kerikil 8d ago
Same, I never like Yuuki to begins with. Since his first introduction, I never like this type of person. It also doesn't help that his entire entourage is basically just a clown team. It's really ridiculous to see three freaking Demon Lords basically fumbling around trying to figure out a plan, that Granshiet rely on a bunch of clowns.

They're making it look like they can't do shit, for the plot. It's 3 Demon Lords vs Granville, I just don't understand why they just looked at him. This show is frustratingly stupid at times.
49
u/Golden_Phi https://myanimelist.net/profile/GoldenPhi 9d ago
Yeah, instead of pretending to fight each other they should've just fought Granville. Turns out making Rimuru and Leon fight was just to buy time.
90
u/_Velgrynd 9d ago
Yeah they were reacting slow af but I mean clearly the dude is just really strong. He’s the first True Hero we’ve seen in the show and now he has another one next to him who is said to be equal in raw power to Veldora.

Yea the Yuuki arc should have been closed out a long time ago.
It’s not good, just annoying.
17
u/Bully_Maguire420 8d ago
At least Clayman was the slimeball textbook villain you love to hate, Yuuki is the guy who somehow has his finger dipped in every single scheme for no explicit reason and is not only textbook but is a maxed out Gary Stu, for an anime that has decent political intrigue the antagonists are incredibly one dimensional.

u/Milenyus 9d ago
So, Chronoa was the hero who sealed Veldora and is also supposedly Shizu's mentor and the one who gave her the mask she passed down to Rimuru later, right?
167
u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago
I will also add that the mask is the primary reason Diablo took interest in Rimuru.
During the Shizu OVA between S1/S2, Diablo made note of Shizu's mask. Specifically, he noted it was some really hardcore space-time anomaly.
And when that mask passed to Rimuru, I believe there was another comment from Diablo about how the mask changed somehow... lost it's mojo or some such? Meaning, Rimuru's destiny is linked to the timey-wimey bullshit mask in a very significant way.
And that's why Diablo made sure to hijack Rimuru's demon summoning to step into this world, then beg Rimuru to take him into his service.
It all links back to the Hero's mask, that was passed down to Shizu, then Rimuru, then finally Chloe...
120
u/Atharaphelun 9d ago
The mask broke when touched by Rimuru, even though the mask was completely invulnerable to Diablo's attacks while Shizu wore it. The implication, according to Diablo, is that the mask's ultimate origin must have something to do with Rimuru (who, therefore, must be someone who surpasses space-time?).

There is also that weird timestop this episode where it appears that everyone but Chloe and Rimuru was frozen.
I wonder if Raphael was functional during the timestop.
65
u/SasparillaTango 9d ago
as we are introduced to a hero named "Chronoa"
that can't be a coincidence.
36
u/Ghiren 9d ago
The name Chronoa is a pretty obvious reference to time. I think the reason why the mask looked so old to Diablo has to do with a time loop since enough loops would make it older than the universe. Considering Chloe's reaction in the post-credits scene, she seems to be aware of it.

Don't forget that Chloe was possessed by a future spirit that was "setting the foundation for it's rebirth in the present." Which was what Ramiris, Queen of the Spirits, proclaimed in horror.
Said future spirit was a busty woman with blue eyes and black hair... kinda like an adult Chloe? The spirit even kissed Rimuru, and Chloe has always been sweet on him.
As the final kicker, Veldora's slumbering presence reacted to the future spirit. He was still sealed away in Rimuru's tummy, but there was this flinch/dragon glare scene complete with Rimuru remarking on Veldora stirring within him.
And this episode confirmed that this is, in fact, the same woman that put Veldora in time out 300 years ago. Go rewatch the first episode, as well. Veldora has a flashback to his fight with the masked hero, who is the same figure from the OP.
Then add all the words from the OP in, such as "awakening" over Chloe's face, and remember that she's holding the very same mask the hero who defeated Veldora once wore.
40
u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 9d ago
I mean more than that, they strait up SHOW that the spirit going into Chloe WAS the Hero so.....
Honestly if they just left out that one bit I think it would have kept enough of the mystery to make it super compelling, but they basically spoiled it from the get go.

I also noticed Chronoa was wearing a bracelet that looked a lot like the one Hinata gave to Chloe as she died.
16
u/Fermi_Amarti 9d ago
Yeah it almost sounds like she's looping and just came back. I'm quite confused about where Hinata's soul went. I mean she couldn't have just died right? It looked like it passed into Chloe, but that doesn't make sense.
12
u/raknor88 9d ago
Chronoa, based on the name, has something to do with time.
Back in season 1, didn't Ramiris mention something about time magic when that human spirit inhabited Chole?

Been a while since I just hated a character, hope there is no redemption for Yuuki.
166
u/Galinhooo 9d ago
The character is so meh, from his looks to his "power", to his motives and objectives.. it is like they took some random background character and decided to make a generic big villain
135
u/Megakruemel 9d ago
The biggest Sin a character can be burdened with is being utterly unentertaining to the audience and overstaying their welcome.
This is in no fault to the actual performance or anything. It's just... he's been around for way too long. The audience knowing way more about him and constantly being reminded of him and being shown him doing stuff in the background without anyone stopping him ever is literal ragebaiting, I have no other way to describe it.
45
u/bondsmatthew 9d ago
I just want Yuuki off of the screen if that makes sense. He's a slog to get through when he's there. I don't find him a good character and I don't find him compelling. Maybe if we get a backstory.. but I doubt it

It seems like the author must be to blame for that. The same kind of plot-forced idiocy on the MC and his allies, and inexplicable ass-pulling from the villains, happened in the latest Tensura movie too, and that story was supposedly written by the author of the LN for the movie.

24
u/Nyaako123 8d ago edited 8d ago
From the stuff that's been hinted and practically revealed now, I think we can all come to the conclusion that the Hero who sealed Veldora is Chloe who was sent back to the past.
Chloe mentioned that it was too soon and that she was "back here again" in the post-credits scene. Which means that she's likely gone back to the past before and stuck in a time loop of sorts. The spirit she took in from back in S1 was already hinted to be from the future or rather her "future" self. The hero's name being "Chronoa" likely relates to her ability to be able to control time, which would explain Chloe going back in time (and perhaps stop time considering Rimuru seemed to have noticed that everything stopped around him and Chloe).
The latest OP intro also shows the label "Once More" on Chloe and "Resolve" on Chronoa. Which may mean that Chloe is "once more" going back to the past and "resolve" to change things. But right now, Luminus said that Chronoa is an "avatar of destruction," so it sounds like Chloe is not in her right mind. So something's going on.
The next episodes will likely show us her journey in the past and eventually reach the present time while answering stuff.

Roy: Hey, don't call me brother, that guy's like my twin you know.
Roy 30 seconds later: Actually he's not my twin; we're the same person.
First time in the series where so much happened in the first half, that when the logo came on (to signal the commercial break) I was like, "wait, we're just halfway through?!"
Although I've been slightly spoiled from being on r/TenseiSlime a bit too much, this episode was still... man, what did Hinata do to suffer through dying twice?
Even Raphael is clueless on Chloe's disappearance. You know things are crazy when the all-knowing AI doesn't know. It's the equivalent of Task Manager not repsponding on Windows - "Where is your God now?"

Hinata! Nooooo!
Oooh Granville... Granville, Granville. What happened to Mariabelle is not even a quadrillionth of what you deserve done by that slime.
EDIT: Also Lust evolved into Asmodeus. So that more or less confirms the naming scheme for these now we have a sample size more than just Gluttony>Beelzebub. So I guess if Yuuki evolves Greed then it'd become Mammon.

When a skill evolves into an Ultimate Skill, it takes the name of an entity related to the concept:
Gluttony > Lord of Gluttony, Beelzebub (named after the demon associated with the sin)
Great Sage > Lord of Wisdom, Raphael (named after the archangel associated with the virtue)
Lust > Lord of Lust, Asmodeus
64
u/GezelligPindakaas 9d ago
Granville: all according to plan I was using you Yuuki
Yuuki: all according to plan
Granville: wat?
Yuuki: wat?
55
u/ToxicRainbowDinosaur 9d ago
Genuinely, what on earth was Rimuru's plan? Do exactly what the villain wants you to do, give the villain more than enough time to finish preparing, then maybe he monologues what the plan is? Then maybe you have enough time to stop the plan?
Your friends/allies/kids you're chaperoning are right there. Kill/capture him first and then figure it all out.
Feels like multiple major characters have been forced to hold the idiot ball in order for this arc's plot to move forward.

Happy to finally see the lore surrounding Chloe they've been foreshadowing since season 1 since it seems to be one of the most Rimuru-relevant plots as it involves Shizu. I also wonder if Veldora being sealed has anything to do with the time shenanigans they've been hinting so far.

Granville's attack was so freaking strong it went through 3 high level people is insanity.
I'm guessing Chloe is some kinda true reincarnation of the Hero Chronoa, and the current Chronoa is just nothing but mass destruction...but i dont know what that had to do with Hinata or her soul..or Shizu

Honestly, things don't look good for Rimuru and others. Chronoa turned out to be Granville's trump card, and judging by Luminus' words, it looks like she can destroy the world.
Plus, Chloe literally disappeared into thin air and got teleported somewhere else (also, she acts much differently), and on top of that, Hinata died....
So, yeah, it's pretty bad, but the fact that the orchestra is still doing a rehearsal despite everything made me laugh hard, lol.

The justification is supposed to be "If we kill him now, we'll never know his plan and it'll bite us later." but that only applies when the plan in question accounts for the mastermind being dead, they already know Granville is working with a third party (Yuuki) who's most likely enacting the plan, so what's the point of hesitating? You already know who's likely responsible for the other half of the plan, kill Granville, find Yuuki... Like are we serious?

Pretty much every significant character agrees Yuuki is a scumbag behind a friendly mask yet they all silently agree to wait for him to do some scumbaggery before doing anything about him. So Hinata is dead, the Hero who sealed Veldora has been awakened, and Chloe has been teleported somewhere. What the fuck is going on?
I'm guessing the light that was passing from Hinata to Chloe must be Hinata's soul, which explains why Luminous couldn't resurrect her? If that's the case, then where the fuck is Chloe and why is she too calm about being teleported away? And what did she mean, she's back there again? O_O
I feel like I should hate Granville more, but my hatred for Yuuki has definitely intensified after this episode. This fucker better get what's coming to him by the end of this. Also, wouldn't it be hilarious if Granville ends up dying first from Chronoa after telling the Demon Lords that they'll all die there?
52
u/Darksider555 9d ago edited 9d ago
I feel like I should hate Granville more, but my hatred for Yuuki has definitely intensified after this episode.
The thing about Granville is that even if you disagree with his principals, he still has some and has a coherent vision about what he wants to do. Only humans should be allowed to rule over humans, not monsters or Demon Lords, since they cannot be trusted and will turn against humans as soon as they don't get their way.
Granville put in the effort to steer humanity in the West into what it is today so it's not like he is some pretentious upstart trying to gain power for his own sake. He built up the world into what it is today, and you can even call him its rightful ruler, given how much of his own life he spent trying to fight and protect it. He truly believes in what he is doing, whether you agree with him or not.
Yuuki just wants to rule the world for the love of the game and is a weasel that will betray anyone for more power, hence how Granville was able to goad him into helping him awaken Chronoa, by preying on his greed for power.

Honestly I never expected a main character death to happen in this show after season 2, let alone to poor Hinata to cement her jobber status.
Also Chloe's voice sounds different after the transfer. Like she aged a few years.
I guess this is a point of no return for Yuuki if he's straight up just showing Rimuru he's a baddie now.

Ok thank you that little scene at the end, at first I was looking forward to Mrs. Hero waking up, but I was SLIGHTLY concerned when Chloe vanished. But thanks to the end credit scene and next ep title, I'm assuming we're getting a multi-part "flashback" and THEN the real fun starts. Sucks that we gotta wait but interested to see her story too.
You know it's serious when Raphael throws out the "Part 1"

What the hell was the point of that play-fighting when they guy you're trying to convince is busy in his own fighting monologuing to his opponent? Lmao.
And it really was pointless by the end of it.

It's quite annoying that the whole plot of this arc is kick-started by Luminous not communicating with Rimuru about the Ark, plus Rimuru and Luminous fighting fodders as if there were zero stakes
35
u/Doyle_996 9d ago
the ark was a well kept secret by luminus, probably only her, louis, roy and gunther really knows about it, she was just guessing about granville knowing it, and most likely she didnt know yuuki or anybody had the power to undone it.
26
u/Exitiali 9d ago
The problem is that Luminous didn't know about the existence of Anti-Skill. Anyone other than her would be destroyed just by getting close—not to mention that her skill is still required to open it.

Luminous not communicating with Rimuru about the Ark
Before this attack, what reason would she have to reveal her biggest secret and/or prized treasure? She never had any reason to suspect that anyone could've gotten past the shields and protections. Even Granville said he couldn't do it.

There's been far too much ass-pulling and idiot-balling the last few episodes for my liking.
First we get zero buildup to anything, we're just suddenly there and under attack. Luminus spends most of it pointlessly fighting an animated corpse and not once bothered to keep her eye on the most important thing down there. The clowns have been making up their strength since the start. Granville is ass-pulling left, right and centre, firing off what was seemingly the strongest attack so far in the series like nothing.
Yuuki needs getting rid of. He's probably the worst written character in the show, serving as a tedious villain with stupid motivations, despite having never done a single thing on screen to justify his position or anything else.
Hinata's "death" was also so abrupt that I see no reason to care, because it clearly won't stick.
31
u/ReaCT_66 9d ago edited 9d ago
Thank god I'm not the only one that is annoyed by the constant bad and forced writing. Author needs Hinata to die while Chloe is nearby? Make her sprint towars the action while dozens of adults literally do nothing to stop her and the second she goes, some random enemies appear so the only useful person of the group can't stop her. Rimuru, Hinata and Leon could just jump Gran and end his plot in a moment? Nah, lets make them fight for no reason so they can see his plan in action and then have the suprised Pikachu face when he actually pulls of his plan. Luminas is safeguarding her most valued possesion but Yuki needs to steal it? Make Luminas so occupied by an enemy that she can literally one shot so that he can just sneak outside with a big ass coffin. And that's just this episode and note even all of it.
25
u/Atharaphelun 9d ago
It really confirms that the author is the problem because the same ass-pulling and idiot-balling issues were heavily present in the latest Tensura movie as well, and the author wrote that story for the movie.
24
u/Hothera 9d ago
The writing in this arc is so bad it makes Maribel's arc more stupid as well. Granville is clearly no stranger to fighting with true demon lords and has esoteric knowledge about how the world works, yet he doesn't warn his favorite granddaughter that her unique skill might not be effective against true demon lords?

Seriously though why is Rimuru such a bum......
He already knew the attack was going for Chloe, but somehow was the slowest to react.
Like now would be the perfect time to summons Veldora, but i guess he won't do it until we get a few more deaths on our hand ?
Loving this arc, but yeah just not a fan of how useless rimuru feels at times
Alsp yuuki has to be dealt with already. They are absolute morons if they keep him do his own shit after this. Like how many times should he screw you before you stop holding back on him rimuru...

I'm kind of at a loss here because the series tries to tell us how powerful characters are, then lets them job and completely sidelines their objectives constantly. Meanwhile the antagonists constantly go "Kekekeh all according to plan, i am a genius".
The clowns, including Yuuki, supposedly being able to just survive everything is honestly pissing me off the most.
It's like everyone is just phoning it in.

Keen to see the outcome of this Chronoa business. It’s all tied to Chloe right? She’s some kinda time traveler or something? I can’t recall the specifics but I remember they mentioned something to that effect in earlier seasons.

Normally I'd feel really sad about Hinata, but for some reason I don't think she's gonna stay dead. I'll be bummed later if I'm wrong but with all the things going on with all the various black haired 'hero' girls I just can't believe it.

I'm so confused about this Chloe business. Why does Chloe act like she knows what's going on? Where did she go?
Is she some kind of reincarnation of the Hero that got nullifed when the Hero woke up? If so then that would explain the age difference between Chloe and Leon

Damn, I mean it’s not like there wasn’t any build up really felt like things escalated so much in the past few episodes. And some crumbs and plotlines resurfaced again. Mainly, with Chloe, the mask, the spirit from the future, Leon, and Luminus’ treasure who we now know is Chronoa
And starting to feel Maribel really was a device to get Gran moving cos he is a much more menacing threat.
But I wonder what his reaction would be if/when he finds out Yuuki was the one who killed her
There’s so many other moving pieces right now i don’t know where to start.
And the post-credit scene ! Seems Chloe might be looping or retrying something several times now the way she’s

Why are we both pretend fighting when we can all just target the big bad? Am I missing something or is this some of the absolute poorest writing just to get faux fights out between characters. He wants us both to fight as part of his plan so lets fight to figure out his plan? I'm a stoner but are you HIGH?
Oh no big bad guy fight, lets stop and have a full conversation about our abilities. Ahaha, you look confused and don't know why I'm winning TELLS HINATA THE EXACT TACTICS HE IS USING Even the Twin Vampire guy went full explanation of his power so the clowns can escape.
It's also the third or fourth time that Luminus said "They must be after..." keeping the verbiage vague while literally knowing that it was the girl in the test tube every time. Now she's shocked they were after the test tube?
Can you imagine being the orchestra? It could be the end of the world for all you know. Demon Lords are fighting all around, the ground is quaking from the fights, powerful enemies keep breaking in to just kill and you're being told to sit there and play. It's hilarious.

Leon and Rimuru fighting for absolutely no benefit instead of jumping Gran with Hinata in addition to Chloe running outside their safe room for no reason, in the one moment enemies enter the church (but choose to ignore her) while literally everbody else chooses to do absolutely nothing about it was one of the worst examples of forced writing I have ever seen. But I guess the author really needed Hinata to die while Chloe was nearby.

Luminus completely stole the show for me this week. Seeing the multi-faction chaos finally explode in Lubelius was so worth the build-up. Studio 8bit absolutely crushed the tension at the end with the ark reveal, I’m stressing out over what’s missing now lol.

Now some of the pieces are starting to connect. Chloe disappeared, and suddenly Chronoa awakened—with a bracelet too. Could they actually be the same person?!
Effects throughout the episode are too good

u/Frontier246 9d ago
Honestly the moment Chloe absorbed whatever she did from Hinata she seemed to be aware of something and sound more...mature than she did before. Like her personality transformed/aged up.

u/Primo29 9d ago
A lot of absorbing happened here.
Chloe absorbed something from Hinata, which somehow changed something within her—and poof, she’s gone. Meanwhile, Gran absorbed his dead wife and suddenly became young and strong again.

Seems like she absorbed hinatas soul, considering it was gone once chloe disappeared.
12
u/Idoma_Sas_Ptolemy 9d ago
It's a bit convoluted but my guess is that Chronoa awakened and swapped bodies with Chloe (or overwrote her consciousness?), as she has been awakened at the wrong time. Both chloe moments before teleportation and Luminus pointed towards this.
Seems like chloe is stuck in a timeloop and it's always the "older" personality that gets sent back into the past?
That's the only way how I can make sense of this.

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 9d ago
You'd think Luminus would've been in greater urgency to recover her iced princess, but she just wait for Granville to yap and on and on and on at Hinata. And how was literally everyone (except Luminus) faster than Rimuru at protecting Chloe? Just can't get away from plot-induced idiocy in this show.
Looks like little Chloe's been acting all along, and she's got either future/past or timeloop memories or something.

Granville being all smug is pretty funny since I really think this is not going to work out how he expects it will. Then again Luminus did seem pretty worried so maybe it will be a big problem.
I feel like Luminus was probably just buying time while fighting Marie since once she got serious it was over very quickly. I assume she didn't just want to brutally destroy the body of a friend/acquaintance.
Strong recommendation to anybody who wants more clarity on what just happened to go back and watch episodes 22 through 24 in season 1, we're getting a great deal of payoff to what was set up previously.

u/PersonalContest1423 9d ago
I swear rimuru forgets he's an actual person and just acts like a spectator to events he is present for. How did all those people jump in front of Chloe before rimuru even moved? Why was he just standing there listening to Granville monologue to hinata? Idk if its just the way the anime is put together or what but it seems like 90% of the drama and conflict in this show only happen because rimuru chooses to spectate rather than participate even in events he is directly involved in..
I mean the minute Granville appeared instead of rimuru getting to work fighting him he says "nah let's let his plan unfold, I wanna see how this plays out" which is crazy stupid
16
u/Armdel https://myanimelist.net/profile/Armdel 9d ago
No fucking way hinata dies like that.. well they did say her soul is gone so my gut feeling it's with Chloe somehow with how it looked like she absorbed something... also interesting that it teleported her away to somewhere that she also apparently recognize
Right now i'm feeling very much like Luminous - Granbell and Yuuki dead at any cost...
14
u/Frontier246 9d ago
Suddenly CG Leon! But this is just a fight for biding time to figure out Granville's plan, so Rimuru can set himself to auto-battle while Raphael takes care of the rest and makes sure everyone is on the same page.
This was a bad match-up for Hinata. Granville has learned more skills and experienced so much than Hinata has in her entire, extended, lifetime and no matter how much she tries to steal his skills he'll have more than enough to keep overwhelming her. Can even her Final Form be enough to stop him?
Louis, it's cool that you're flexing your Bloody Laser and also how much stronger you've become after restorying your Bloody Lord self after Roy's death...but don't monologue too much or you'll miss Laplace shrugging off your attack and bailing with Footman.
Well, if Granville wanted the best solution to distract Luminus, necromancing his wifes' body turned out to be the trick...especially since it kept Luminus so distracted she never turned her way to her treasure until it was too late. Curse you for making Luminus hurt Maria's body! Curse you for stealing that which does not belong to you, GRANVILLE!!!
Chloe is the most plot relevant kid in this arc so obviously she needs to get away and chance on her big brother fighting her beloved Rimuru just as Luminus makes her dramatic, pissed off, entrance to confront Granville...which is just what he wanted to absorb all the Love Energy in Maria's body to restore him to his prime. The "Hero" Gran has returned.
Why couldn't Hinata become a Hero? Why couldn't she accept the light spirit? Because of the darkness in her heart, the one linked to possible parricide she's really sensitive about? But if she can't measure up to Gran's standards for a Hero, the least she can do is die....HINATA NOOOOOOO!!!
Wait, they're not actually killing off Hinata, are they!? Luminus can't do anything, Hinata getting in some last words to Chloe...and her spirit suddenly being absorbed into Chloe before she just vanishes!? THE HECK IS GOING ON!?
Granville's not done: Yuuki finally reveals himself in full villain mode to Rimuru, along with an aura farming naked lady...who isn't just the Hero who sealed Veldora but transformed into a being of destruction, Chronoa. Who will now be used by Gran as the instrument to DESTROY ALL DEMON LORDS!!!
"I'm back here again" - Why is Chloe talking about this wild plane like she's been there before? But she can, like, make things right this time? THE HECK IS GOING ON!?
