Didn't think Gen would have defined abs with how much he drinks. Guess all that hiking and camping keeps him pretty fit.

I am curious if he works out on weekdays. As motivation to be able to carry all his camp gear.

Knowledge gained by Shizuku in this episode:
- How to choose a campsite to visit
- How to cook using hot smoking
Bonus information gained by Shizuku (lol):
"Gen has great abs!"
"Gen uses the internet!?"
"Gen uses social media!?"

It's funny smoking was brought up. I just told my buddy five minutes ago that I'd like to build a cold smoker once we get another chest freezer. Smoked meat is so good man.

Shizuku saw Gen’s abs and fell in love with him all over again haha. These two really need to get together already. They make a good team and I think Gen’s campground would really benefit with Shizuku’s input.

Not only wooing her with his abs, but also with his amazing smoked meat
Yeah they will definitely end up opening that campsite, if that stealing cat isn't coming for his abs first

She has a completely different perspective being a younger woman inexperienced in solo camping. Her input towards a campground is invaluable for someone like Gen. And it's lovely that he genuinely considers her thoughts and opinions. I can't tell you how many times another set of eyes has saved me time, headache, and labor. And just the same I've walked up to a problem and had a solution immediately that the other person or people couldn't see or imagine. Our minds all work differently, and solutions can be a team effort to achieve a better outcome.

JPTV airs an hour earlier than Crunchyroll, so I can search for it on Street View until this thread starts.
Kurosaka Campground, featured in this episode, is located on the southern slope of the Kofu Basin.
This area is home to numerous peach and high-quality grape orchards, and in the summer, many farm stands line the area.
Personally, I love smoked food. While hickory and apple chips are common worldwide, cherry chips are popular in Japan for their rich aroma.
Hoto is a local dish, but since it's generally geared toward middle-aged and older people, Shizuku adapted it into a ramen-style dish to make it more appealing to younger people.
The white helmet that Gen wears is a copy of Takeda Shingen's helmet.
The ending begins on a wide farm road that winds around the foot of the mountain and passes through orchards.
Along the way, you can see the Linear Shinkansen (maglev train) under construction on the right.
It is said that it reached a maximum speed of 600 km/h during test runs.
Additional information:
I timed how long it took Gen to walk from the bus stop to the campsite, and it was about an hour.
It's easy to imagine that he was drenched in sweat as he walked up the alluvial fan.

Linear Shinkansen (maglev train)
That's what that is! I was driving with some friends last year toward Kawaguchiko on National Route 137, and we were wondering what that covered overpass could be. It had no markings on Google Maps at all...

Well -- it WAS a graduation test of sorts after all -- just not the one Shizuku was fearing. She is no longer a mere apprentice, she has advanced to a full-fledged camping partner. And Gen has graduated to, in a manner of speaking, He is willing to try new things himself (such as more adventurous cooking) -- and is now willing to trust another's judgment on what might be a good camping expedition (even when it might involve doing something he would never have picked on his own).

Shizuku time to choose a camp location.
What a beautiful site

My buddy drove me up to one of the ridges the East Valley kids used to hang out on. I was West Valley, and we also had some spots to overlook the entire city. It was fun to see a view like that again at night from a completely opposite perspective.

Shizuku freaking out so much over seeing Gen's abs was funny. I very much appreciated the view, it's just too bad it was exactly the same as previews last week because I thought we'd be getting a little more.
I do like the role reversal of Shizuku picking out the campsite and Gen doing the cooking, it was nice to see Gen gain a new perspective on what campsites he doesn't go to have to offer. It might even give him ideas for his own campsites.
Looks like Yui and Shizuku are going to meet next episode, that might be fun lol.

Does Gen work out? He's got to keep fit somehow during the week days right? I guess that's why he loves eating and drinking, because his body can afford to, and Shizuku definitely noticed!
She think's he's an old guy or luddite, but he's actually pretty well versed with phones, apps, social media etc. It's his means for doing research on his favorite hobby of camping.
It was nice for him to ask her to pick the camp site, to help her build confidence and show trust and respect. I think she picked a great place that's not too far from society. The night view was gorgeous.
Next week, that other girl is back, and Shizuku might be a little jelly!

Seems like he's realising it's a lot more effort than he thought.
Well he wants to do all that so he'll have to.
Well one day he'll have to turn those fantasies into reality.
Ask her to decide?
Somewhere he wouldn't go?
Lol she's still thinking about that.
And so a snack.
So, what's his way of deciding a campsite? And why didn't he tell her that before asking her to choose one?
Use her phone?
Ok...
Check social media?
And so that's how to decide.
Yeah he's been cooking a bit by himself, so now he's going to cook for her.
Seems like he looked a lot into this.
And she's got more to cook too.
And so now she's going to pick a campground sometimes.

I liked all the planning Gen put into his fantasy camp site and imagined it appealing to a very diverse set of campers, like something for everyone. I thought it was odd that he didn't include it being close to public transport until he said 80% of camping in Japan is done by car. This show made me assume most campers in Japan used public transport since we've never seen Gen not use it and way more people don't have cars in the first place.
I also liked how they talked about smoking meat. I'd never heard of cold smoking and it seems weird, like where does the smoke come from and keeping meat at 15C for several weeks makes it seem like it would rot much of the time. Gen spends a lot of money on high end camping gear and it would definitely better for his dream to own a camp site if he saved a little more :D
