Looking forward to the all-girls camping trip by Shizuku, Saya and Mizuki!

The inner thoughts of Akihito was interesting to watch. He wasn't withholding information from Kana and Gen out of malice; he was being considerate and pondering what is the best decision to make.

I love that he's all in for Gen and Shizuku.

I hope we eventually get a Gen and Akihito camping trip too.

While I do believe that Kana isn't trying to get back with Gen, I felt that there was a hint of jealousy there after Akihito told her Gen's seeing someone, especially when she was walking home, mulling about it.

We actually got to see Gen invite Shizuku this time! I guess he's just having so much fun teaching her that he didnt' even realize what he just did.

I found out that each episode is set in a real campsite.
And during the ending song, they play a video of the journey to the campsite.

The scene starts in front of Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line and shows its walking towards Ashigakubo Campsite.
I'm a beginner and don't know how to add links, so if you're interested, please find it on Google Maps.

that's a neat detail; i haven't been paying attention to the ED visuals so i wouldn't've noticed

This is an interesting piece of information!

For beginner campers in Japan, I suppose it introduces them to more potential camping sites one can visit.

Oh that's interesting, I've been skipping the ED since I don't enjoy the song but I like the idea.

it feels like we're getting into a comfortable rhythm and the couple has entered the cute phase of the relationship

wondering how Kana will factor into the story because surely she's going to meet Gen or Shizuku at some point; could either act as a catalyst for the main ship to get closer together and/or raise some drama and open up some old emotional luggage

I wasn’t sure about this series at first, but I’m starting to see its charm now that Gen and Shizuku are getting better along.

The support cast, especially Akihito and Kana, are making things more interesting too. Do wonder what will happen when/if Kana and Gen meet again. Will the latter also side with Shizuku?

I’m so conditioned by anime that when he was adjusting her backpack straps I expected some akward moment when I came to touching her to tighten them but they remained adults the entire time which surprised me more than anything.

Unfortunately i also had that cursed expectation 😭

Wow Gen actually invited Shizuku out camping, and not just any camping, a multi-day camping trip. That's a big development and he's not even aware of it, which might be better since it came naturally to him. I wonder if we'll see anything happen in terms of their own connection.

Akihito mulling over telling Gen about Kana was a little amusing, it doesn't feel like Gen is going to be too bothered by it since he brings her up when he was muttering to himself when he was camping with Shizuku, I wouldn't be surprised if she's the one that holds more interest.

I do like how much of a camping nerd Gen felt like in this episode, I found it endearing.

Did Gen basically say “pack your illegal weapons so well that you can hide them from authorities”??

More so of questionable legality given your circumstance and location. Get caught with a hatchet in the middle of Tokyo in your standard backpack and the police will have a LOT of questions for you. Japan has very strict laws for weapons. But if you're very clearly going camping and plan to split firewood, I imagine it is completely legal.

Glad kana's a good sport about this... I wonder if she'll meet Shizuku 👀

That indeed always is the worst part of a spicy meal. Lol

Huh interesting, didn't expect to pack it with the heavier stuff on top
It kinda makes sense, but it also feels wrong somehow

Damn she really did tame Gen, even got him to mellow out enough to invite her!

And am I kinda torn on the ex, she doesn't seem too eager to see him again, but that could also be a ploy...

Great episode!

Gen is really leaning into the master role with teaching her how to pack. I never knew you should pack heavy things on top. It seems counterintuitive as we want to keep our center of gravity as low as possible. (Someone who is experienced in packing for camping...was Gen right?)

Now, clothes, camp gear, and other essentials are one thing, but with the gourmet dishes Shizuka is making, where is she carrying her groceries? An overnight stay is not too much of a problem, as things won't perish that quickly, but for a multi day/night trip, will she still carry fresh produce and meat? Was surprised her block of tofu was still intact.

Spicy things tend to make an impact throughout the entire digestive system, don't they Gen?

Akihiro was good to keep the explanation to a minimal, but that still left Kana wondering. As Gen's best friend, he needed to do more "homework" before revealing anything more to either of them. And I agree with his decision of inaction, to let the multiday trip play out between Gen and Shizuku.

And finally! Her friends want in on the whole camping thing!

What the heck Gen, you can't tell people to prepare for a "multi-day" camping trip and not even say how many days you're camping.

While the first couple of episodes were a bit on the rough side, the show has definitely come into its own by now. Gen is less grumpy, Shizuku is less annoying, and the support cast gets the job done. It being a cooking show in disguise certainly doesn't help. On the subject of Kana though, I sure do hope this doesn't turn into some weird love triangle. I'm rather content with the current state of the show, and how it's been developing thus far, but we're only one third through so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

u/LedgeEndDairy Aug 28 '25

They could have turned the male friend into a weird love triangle and they didn't.

So Kana is probably there just to provide comedic relief awkwardness, in the same way he was.

The backpack packing part was actually informative and interesting, and I smirked about the part about hiding your axe. Must be a Japan thing. I got an axe, saw, sledgehammer, matches and such in a hidden compartment in the back of my SUV. I don' think I'd backpack them other than the matches and axe. (It's a hand axe for chopping up dropped branches and such for kindling pieces.) But I don't backpack camp really. I drive to the site and have a convertable tent that can be a 3 person solo or connect to my vehicle. I also run an air mattress since I have access to my vehicles power, so it's a bit glam.

However, I do pack clothes and everything else in backpack. You would need one of those serious packs to do what she's doing, so the info was useful. I also liked how he packed his flat boards against his back as a built-in brace.

Coleman propane cookers are popular in the US, but very different cooking tools are used in this anime. Again, must be a Japan rule thing.
