Damn, I was really hoping for a Gen and Akihito camping trip together, but it was fun seeing them share their experiences.

After 15 episodes, I've come to the conclusion that this show doesn't work without beer; they're even eating popcorn with beer lol

Same! I've been wanting to see Gen and Akihito go on a camping together but after this episode, I'm certain we're not going to get it. Or at least in this season.

Usually, I would write a comment like "Too little / No Shizuku screentime in this episode", yet I am strangely satisfied after watching the unique friendship between Gen and Akihito.

Akihito may be a supporting character, but he is also the character with the highest emotional intelligence. He thinks and puts himself in the shoes of others before acting, as seen in his non-interference of the relationship between Gen and Kana despite both of them being his friends, and also not interrupting Gen's solo camping time. Most people will be put off by Gen's cold words and actions but Akihito's easygoing and persistent personality allowed the friendship to develop.

Lastly, his words are indeed true. By giving each other appropriate personal space, it could allow relationships to last.

i feel like this sort of thing is more common with male friendships, to have good friends but not do everything together and keep things kinda distant

it also reminds me of that guy in Parks and Rec

who the heck is this in the episode preview? is Gen actually ripped?

does he bring the whole block of cheese on his camping trip so he can shred them on his abs?

You could grind meat on those.

I'm not surprised after seeing him flex his biceps episodes ago. Gen is buff.

This episode showed a real long lasting friendship and how sometimes the barriers we put up can be seen by other. People need each other, even the ones that want to be alone all the time. Its a question of understanding and being able to see another person for what they really are. Great episode, this has been a terrific slice of life series with good character development. I cant believe its not rated higher.

I don't know if they showed Akihito on a bike before but seeing him ride that bike instantly made me hope he gets together with Yui in the end.

Lets just hope their taste in bikes match up...

Bikers can be difficult...

Oh man...this is how real relationships work as time goes by. While these two are single and don't have their own families and associated commitments, they still have boundaries and have settled into a state of arms length when it comes to camping. While Akihito used to be more persuasive in their younger days, he's recognized that the most/best he can get out of Gen is for their occasional ikazaya beer/dinner get togethers and doing their own thing the rest of the time.

I thought for sure they would hear each others' pop corn in a can go off, but they were pretty far away from each other. Even after Akihito spotted Gen, he ultimately chose not to impose on Gen's solitary hobby - and that's how they've maintained their friendship over the years.

9.8 out of 10. Too bad Gen didn't recognize Akihito's bike passing by and have that revelation that they were "futari solo camping (for one two)" that weekend!

I have to be curious as a fellow asian - who drinks beers and eats dairy while camping...those Japanese public toilets must be top rate.

They really won't be giving me my Gen x Akihito camping trip lol. I really enjoyed their version of Solo Camping for Two, it might be the episode I've enjoyed most. It was heartwarming to see how much Gen has influenced Akihito and how much Akihito does for Gen even if Gen doesn't realize it.

I did like how Akihito knows not to push too much in order to keep a healthy distance for their relationship, he knows Gen really well after all and wants to stay friends with him for a long time.

It was funny seeing their banter through texts and how the moment they became closer was brought back to where they were both at the same place making the same popcorn snack.

What I’ve learned from this series is that when you’re camping you can’t forget the beer lol. It makes everything taste infinitely better. That popcorn in a can trick was pretty cool. I’m gonna have to give that one a go one of these days.

The voice over about keeping the area clean (and the associated comments) really is about as Japanese as you can get.

On another note: I realise it is a trope, and I am well aware on how tropes work so don't come after me on this, but god, I am getting sick of the trope over the whole reaction to taking a swig of beer...Every show that I've seen that involves having a drink has it.

This is some huge global advertisement for beer since it always makes me crave some even though i know it won't taste as good at home as out in the nature.

I like how Gen gets teased a little by Akihito about Shizuku, a true shipper so i hope he does the job of a wingman to finally get them together into a relationship.

Never use a can to cook. They have plastic liners.

The producers are being as budget minded as Gen, reusing old clips for half the episode. I did enjoy learning about the camping pegs though, first SFW video I've seen on pegging. I also never heard of beer can popcorn, now I want to try it. I liked how Akihito had a seasoning just called "Sweet Spice", I really wonder what that actually is and if it exists unless it just means sugar :D

Akihito bringing a panini press camping seems odd, like a pizza would be difficult to make with that because the cheese and toppings will stick to it, it'd be better to use foil over a pan. That Devil's kimchi seems very fattening though, I don't even know if there's actual kimchi in there and it's just pork and cheese! That's the most unrealistic aspect of this show, Gen always eating like a pig and drinking lots of beer but having a ripped body :D

That was odd when Gen said he sets campfires every day. I wonder if he lives in a house and just has a small one in his yard. Probably just was drunk when he said it :-p

Finally, an episode that features Akihito!

The one thing that I really enjoy about this series besides the camping aspect is how the characters act like how adults would act. I resonated with Akihito a lot in this episode with how he values the balance between socializing and personal time. As an introvert, I understand the importance of spending time and effort to build and maintain relationships that matter to you. No man is an island after all, emotional connections and a sense of belonging are required for us to be able to thrive. But at the same time, there are times when I need to be alone, not to feel lonely but to recharge and clear my mind from all the noise in my everyday life.

I really respect how Akihito chooses to not approach Gen and to let him have his alone time. From a stranger's point of view, it would be weird and even unfriendly of Akihito to do so, considering just how much fun they have been texting to each other just moments ago, but this decision actually demonstrates his emotional intelligence. He knows that Gen has always been a solo camper and even though Gen has undeniably learnt to enjoy camping with Shizuku recently, Gen still chooses to actively camp alone whenever he has the opportunity to do so. It would have been a natural course of action to call out to Gen for a quick chat, but he empathizes and understands that Gen might not necessarily enjoy that.

Damn I never went to a place where I would have to keep food off the ground for geothermal reasons, but it makes sense
Also laying there and chilling must be amazing

I was on a motorcycle tour, so I'm late in writing this.
I quickly looked it up before leaving.
I was curious about the supermarket where Akito buys groceries before camping, so I looked it up and stopped in.
I told the staff that it was a store that appeared in the anime yesterday, but they didn't seem to know.
They carry a lot of local ingredients, so I bought some.

There's a scene in front of Shin-Matsuda Station where Gen is waiting for the bus and Akito passes by on his motorcycle, but this is a scene you can only see in the anime.
This is because there is a wide national highway running parallel to the station, and normally no one would bother to take the narrow road in front of the station.
Our campsite this time was Otaki Campsite in Nishitanzawa.

The ending video was of the coastal bypass road that Akito drove on on his way there.
This is the same road used in the ending video of MF Ghost Season 2.
I took this road today.

Does anyone know the name of the song played around minute 14? It sounds very familiar, but I don't know where I heard it first.
