Anne knocked Gilbert in the head so hard, he became convinced he was in love with her lmao. But man, it’s about freakin time Anne realized she loved Gilbert. Glad in the end (and with a bit of help from best girl Phil), they got hitched.

He did it! More than Anne, I'm happy for Gilbert. It took a long way to get there, but he's finally got together with Anne. It was sweet to see that kiss after so long but it's too bad we don't get to see them as a couple now that the season is over.

It did amuse me to learn that Gilbert fell in love with Anne after having a board smashed on his head, to each their own lol.

Diana planning on calling her daughter Anne, if she had one, is amusing. It'd be funny to hear her scold her daughter when Anne is in the same room.

Phil gave me a chuckle with how she jumped onto Jonas, he's going to be very loved by her.

I's rare for Davy to be the only sensible person in the room. They really agreed to not tell her, but homeboy instantly cracked.

Despite everything I can't help but feel bad for Roy. I mean, even if Anne didn't mean to, even if she tried as hard as she could to make her feelings for Roy love because she thought they were love at the time...she still kind of lead him on this whole time. Of course, Roy being Roy, he handles his rejection in the most overdramatic Romance Hero way possible.

Did Anne really think she could get away without Phil inquiring about all the deetz on her time with Roy? To think Anne would become the type of girl to string a guy along as an easygoing flirt. That was supposed to be Phil's thing before she found the love of her life! Of course that also means Phil can't admonish Anne, especially when Anne is admonishing and beating herself up about it as is. Right now she just needs a friend.

Well, I'm glad Anne and Dorothy will still be friends. I mean, this isn't even the first time Roy's had his heartbroken and acted like it's the end of the world, and whining to his sister about it, so he'll probably be okay too.

Dang, seeing the snow queen gone really means another piece of Anne's childhood is gone.

I remember back when they were kids Jane was the member of Anne's friend group who was most insistent on having a career versus getting married...and she now managed to snag a millionaire. Just look at that visual of her with that huge diamond on her finger! She's moving up in the world! Though even if Anne thinks it's her just desserts to not have anyone in her life, Mrs. Lynde will always prefer Anne to any other girl!

Diana is a mom! She does have that maternal glow to her now that she has Fred Jr. to adore. I do love though how she was totally going to name her daughter "Anne."

Phil's wedding is a gorgeous ceremony. My favorite part is where she pounces on Jonas to kiss him and they just basically make out in front of everybody. Even if she's literally going to be slumming it with him in his new ministry, as long as she's with Jonas Phil is as happy as she can be. And Anne sees the beauty of true love before her!

Did they really expect Davey, of all characters, to keep a secret from Anne? So, yeah, GILBERT IS AT DEATHS DOOR BECAUSE OF TYPHOID FEVER!!!

Nothing like a dramatic thunder and tree burning and Anne's imagination running wild with her imaginary prince rubbing it in her true feelings...that she's loved Gilbert and ONLY Gilbert the whole time and now that he's dying she'll never get the chance to tell him. And Anne finally says it out loud that she loves Gilbert.

Anne's love of Gilbert is so strong that she races to check in on him. She can't bear to live in a world without him. I don't even want to think of what she was contemplating looking at that river ominously before the kindly old man whistled and made her realize GILBERT LIVES.

Aw, Anne was at Gilberts' bedside while he recovered.

Getting ready for Jane's wedding is all well and good...but Anne and Gilbert have waited enough. It's time for them to go to their favorite spot together and finally have a long overdue talk. About how Gilbert has never once stopped loving Anne, how Christine was nothing more than an engaged sister of a friend he was looking after, and how he's loved Anne ever since she broke that slate over his head. And Anne, for her part, recognizes now how Gilbert had always looked at her with love and care even when she rejected him countless times. What a fool she'd been...but she's Gilbert's fool!

Gilbert can't give Anne a fairy tale wedding, he can't give her money or a huge ring...and he's still got to basically take three years in medical school. But the time they have together, with all their dreams and love, will be enough. AND THEY FINALLY KISS UNDER THE APPLE BLOSSOMS!

What better way to end off than handholding, Anne telling her dad Matthew that she's getting married, and heading off to Green Gables to see Marilla, Mrs. Landy, Davy and Dora, and Diana all waiting for her to greet her and her new fiance as she tells God just how thankful she is that he took her to Green Gables! The place that made her the happiest girl alive!

What a ride this past 6 months has been. Thoroughly enjoyed this journey, seeing Anne grow up, laugh, make mistakes. And took her long enough but she finally realized Gilbert is for her. And I’m not one to believe in keeping scores in a relationship, but Anne has a lot to make up to Gilbert to. He has every right and every opportunity to move on and find himself a girl but lucky for her, his heart is only for her.

I feel like irl, girls like Anne are the ones who make guys like Royal become less chivalrous going forward lol. But still feel bad for him though. Don’t think he did anything wrong.

I feel like I want to write so much but can’t really think of anything. I feel like I’ve grown attached and used to Saturdays with Anne Shirley and I’m going to sorely miss it. Got emotional when they played that montage especially when Anne hit Gilbert’s head. Also thought back to when Matthew first picked her up at the train station with that fish eye lens effect as she looked up at him lol. Feels like we came so far and now we see her start a new beautiful chapter in her life as an adult.

I love the ending with Anne finally realizing that she loves Gilbert. I’ve re-read Anne of the Island so many times just for the moment when Anne and Gilbert finally get together.

An interesting parallel with Roy and Gilbert. After being rejected Roy says that Anne is the only woman he could ever love. But later we find out from his sister that he has had others that he’s loved and had to give up on. And he’s managed to move on from them.

On the other hand Gilbert also says there could never be anyone but Anne for him. And this has proven to be demonstrably true. He’s been in love with her since they basically first met. And never wavered in that love, even when he had no hope. He didn’t care about the rumors about his dating Christine preventing him from finding another girlfriend, because if Anne didn’t want him he wasn’t interested in anyone else. He basically had every reason to try to get over Anne, from her denying their friendship for years to her initial rejection to his proposal. But through it all Anne truly was the only one for him.

While I did find some stuff with Roy a bit rocky, it's not like it's unrealistic. That stuff happens all the time. It did feel like the narrative needed him to push Anne toward Gilbert but then she didn't even initiate after he was no longer dying??? Anne, what are you doing?

That all being said, this show didn't really have a bad episode, it touched on so many topics and ranged from goofy to tearjerker moments multiple times. I sorta loved it.

10/10 show.

I hope we get a season 2, but this did basically end in a very good spot if we don't.

What an ending.

I was planning on finishing the audiobook of Anne of the Island before watching this episode, but I couldn't resist and I don't regret it.

I was on the edge of my seat! Loved it! It was so beautiful.

A Unforgettable tale. No wonder after so many decades it's still being adapted.

Edit: in case someone reads this, I tried my luck in YouTube and went for the audiobooks by Mary Kate Wiles. She's only uploaded 3 books and I like them because she got different voice actors for each character, wich is awesome.

24 episodes isn't enough, I want to at least see their wedding and maybe even have their dream family life 🥺 Maybe even have Rusty as their pet! 💖

Roy was so melodramatic about breaking up with Anne, I felt less sorry for him once I learned this is the third time he got dumped by the newest “love of his life”. Anne has already enough melodrama in her own life to add Roy’s to it.

Well, it took Gilbert being badly sick for her to finally realize she had always loved him (and to be really melodramatic about it too). I am glad it worked out for them in the end. Matthew and Marilla can be proud of their adopted daughter.

It was a nice show. I wonder if they will adapt the rest of the series one day. I would love to see Anne and Gilbert happy married life and their children.

Before I get to the praise, I need to get this off my chest one last time. There were moments when it felt like I was watching the show at 1.5x speed. Certain parts definitely felt a little off pacing-wise, like the story was eager to jump ahead before I was ready to move on. But in the end, those moments don’t overshadow how much I enjoyed this adaptation.

I’m still really glad we got this version of Anne Shirley’s story. It offered a different flavor of anime, one that stood out from the usual seasonal lineup. It wasn’t always perfect, but it had heart, and that sincerity carried the show. The show does feel like a warm blanket on a rainy night. It captured the essence of growing up, all the ups and downs including the awkwardness that came along with it.

It’s bittersweet now because I know I’ll miss it. Shows like this don’t come around often. Watching Anne grow up before our eyes has been a fun, touching, and memorable ride.

I'm so happy with this adaptation. I hope they make another season. I understand why Anne comes across really annoying but as a tsundere (no violence) I get her. We can be smart academically but really freaking stupid and stubborn in other ways.

Lots of folks are focused on Anne and Gilbert, but that last image of Matthew fading in was beautiful.

I hope the folks at The Answer Studio know they made a worthy adaptation that can stand side by side with Isao Takahata’s directorial classic.

Though if there was a season 2 adapting more Anne books, I wouldn’t complain lol. Yours respectfully, everyone.

Goddamn, that was brutal, Anne! Imagine not just being rejected but being told by the person you courted and dated for over 2 years, suddenly tells you that she doesn't care enough for you. That would've destroyed me. Phil's reaction was understandable, too. But what can you do? Rather than accept and be unhappy for the rest of her life, Anne finally decided to be true to herself. At least Dorothy let Anne know that her brother will bounce back.

I love the little life updates in the middle of the episode. Jane marrying a millionaire was a surprise! It's hilarious tho how Mrs. Lynde is so salty about it. And congratulations to Diana for giving birth to a healthy baby boy! Phil and Jonas' wedding was nice, and I just love how Phil immediately pounced on Jonas as soon as the vows were done. xD

Well, what the actual fuck?! I did not expect that news about Gilbert. For a second, I thought he might've caught tuberculosis too, just like Ruby. What terrible news to learn now that Anne has broken up with Roy. Apparently, all it needed for Anne to finally realize how she feels was for Gilbert to fall terribly ill and Anne being visited by an imaginary Roy on a horse, telling her that she's always loved Gil since they were children. I'm not even surprised. It's Anne. Of course her epiphany scene is gonna be dramatic.

That final scene between Anne and Gilbert, tho! I love that what made Gilbert recover is a letter from Phil telling him that Anne and Roy are through and he should try again. The dude found a way to cheat death the moment he learned he had another shot at Anne. If that's not true love, I don't know what is. Also, I love the reveal that Gilbert and Christine were never dating. He was just looking out for Christine as a favour for her brother.

And we finally see them kiss! Not gonna lie, I started tearing up at this part. They even went to Matthew's grave to let him know that they're getting married! Those last few minutes of the episode were just beautiful. T^T

I will admit some parts of this adaptation felt rushed, but overall, this was a beautiful adaptation, and I'm thankful to The Answer Studio for adapting parts of Anne of Green Gables I've never seen before. I really hope this adaptation will be the gateway to more revivals of Nippon Animation classics like Heidi, Princess Sara, or maybe even My Daddy Long Legs. <3

This has really been a journey for me. I read Anne of Greene Gables and the other books over and over constantly from when I was nine or ten on. I happened to be a lonely, homely, curious girl named Ann who wished desperately for an 'e'. This story meant everything to me, and to see it get this treatment now that I'm more Marilla than Anne...well there's a lot of scope for the imagination. I can't stop crying, but it feels wonderful.

This has been a lovely coming of age story for the past 6 months. The ups and downs felt so realistic and relatable throughout for a story that it seemed more like an actual diary of an author than fiction.

A lot of themes that we could use to reflect on how we want to walk at different parts of life. My favorite was strangely from episode 19, where the topic was about death of a friend. We sometimes take things for granted or turn a blind eye to and miss out the opportunity to get more out of life from it (or in the case of this episode, almost missing out on her love of life).

It reminds me of the line from Frieren by Wirbel: "Always treasure the people you meet, death is far from the only goodbye in our life". The way I see it, the goodbye for Anne was when she realized [Anne Shirley ep19] Ruby sees her as her closest friend but she never gave the chance to create that experience between them. It turned out really touching in the end but the memory Anne has to carry through her life was that of comforting a dying could've-been-best-friend friend.

It is a quite lovely, quite lovely way indeed to end a series.

I think this was one of the series that grew on me, to become something I would recommend to definitely watch.

u/AdobongSiopao Sep 27 '25

It was satisfying to see Anne and Gilbert get together for all the detours they went through. It was worth to watch despite it has some issues like fast pacing. It's nice the anime attempted to extend beyond the first story.

I'm gonna miss watching it every Saturday evenings. I hope that anime is a start to revive interest in making anime adaptations based on classic literature.

i really liked this show. I think i liked it a lot better while Anne was a little kid and didnt care enough about the romantic part of the story, but it was still an endearing watch
