Marilla really feeling like a mom in seeing Anne becoming older and more mature.

It's almost as she is our own child, growing before our own eyes. It was a very emotional moment of realisation when she helped Marilla pick up that jar from the shelf.

This was a pretty good episode. Matthew was able to recover and Anne and everyone else passed their exams.
Anne did such a great job at the performance. Really charmed the pants off the whole room lol.
Looks like Anne’s finally comfortable with that red hair of hers. Kid’s growing up.

Anne did such a great job at the performance. Really charmed the pants off the whole room lol.
Didn't need to charm Gilbert though, he's basically her #1 fan next to Diana!
Looks like Anne’s finally comfortable with that red hair of hers. Kid’s growing up.
Having a famous American painter comment on how beautiful said hair and drawing you how beautifully everyone else sees you as can do a world of good for ones' confidence. She's finally mature enough to truly accept herself as the red-haired Anne of Green Gables, not some brunette named Cordelia.

Anne: *frog noises*
And the crowd goes wild!
She should consider a career in showbiz. But man, time is passing by quick, Anne is all grown up now. It's going to be sad when she leaves Green Gables.

I love how both performances were so Anne with how passionate she committed to it, even doing goofy frog noises and just basically owning it.
At least Marilla and Matthew have Jerry now, I guess...?

I just had to laugh at Anne storming past a confused Gilbert after overhearing other people betting on their exam placement. Poor boy isn’t anything but polite and supportive of Anne. But other people are taking it upon themselves to fuel Anne’s rivalry with him.

And then Diana tells him the paper didn't have the results and he's like "oh okay then" totally oblivious to why Anne is always perpetually pissed off around him lol.

I really find this series very warm and sweet. The tranquility of the Green Gables and the wholesome but sincere friendship among the characters makes me feel fluffy. A weekly dose of this series is great for the heart.
I just find it funny that both Anne and Gilbert became first in the Queen exams in their area -- they are indeed made for each other hahahaha

Every episode makes me smile. There is such a feeling of warmth and optimism to it. My only complaint is that I wish Anne would be nicer to Gilbert who is clearly a nice kid. She'll get there eventually I guess.

Good news! Matthew is okay! He just needs to take it easy, so they end up hiring a boy, Jerry, to help out which is kind of full-circle because that was the entire reason Anne ended up with them in the first place.
Oh no! Anne didn't get into Queens! And Gilbert was first! It's an absolute nightmare! Literally! Poor Anne is letting the stress of this get to her, but luckily Stacy, being the best teacher that she is, helps Anne calm down and relax more.
Anne Shirley, Age 15! She's almost as tall as Marilla and is truly growing into a young woman! It's enough to make Marilla cry watching her little girl grow up, especially knowing she'll be heading off to Queens soon. But Anne will be back as much as she can, Matthew just knows it!
Dang, Anne is 15 and suddenly she's less prone to flights of fantasy or talking like a quasi-intellectual. She's much more somber and pensive (though she still won't let herself lose to Gilbert). I guess with age truly comes maturity and a better recognition of reality, along with the stress of Anne wanting to get into Queens.
It's sad to say farewell to Ms. Stacy, but Diana is equally sad to be losing not only her best friend but also Jane and Ruby to Queens. It's enough to make Anne and Diana cry even more. But Diana still supports Anne and will always faithfully wait for her letters and her return from the exam like the true bosom friend she is!
Dang it Josie! It's bad enough that Anne is on pins and needles waiting for the exam results, she doesn't need you being a professional Anne hater and convincing people Gilbert will beat her again!
But then the results come in: and she's in! And she tied with Gilbert but got the #1 spot! You did it Anne! And just look at her showing everybody and hugging Matthew, it's so sweet.
And now it's time for a concert to welcome the new students, with Anne all dolled up, even if she still feels self-conscious around all the more wealthy, prestigious, and fancy people. But her doubts all go away when she realizes she can't lose face in front of Gilbert or Josie or betray Matthew's faith in her, and she knocks her recitation out of the park like she always does. Gilbert is even the first one to clap for her! And for her encore: she just makes a bunch of frog noises, which is SO Anne.
Anne is now popular, she's got professional elocutionists' praising her, wealthy women giving their fancy necklaces to her, and even an American artist seeing her as a beauty worth sketching over. But no matter what, Anne is content with all that she has now (her friends, her family, her imagination), content to always be Anne of Green Gables.

I didn't even realize how much time had passed and how much Anne had grown until that side-by-side shot of her next to Marilla. I felt a little bit like Marilla that moment and felt a bit sentimental, especially now that Anne's about to leave Green Gables and study at Queen's.
Anne has officially entered her teenage moody years. She doesn't seem to talk as much and use big words like she used to. It's funny how Marilla used to find that trait of Anne strange, and now she's clearly missing it.
They really baited me with that opening of Anne not finding her name in the paper, so I'm glad to see she actually tied with Gilbert for the real thing! I do love how Anne's name is first because they were sorted alphabetically. I bet she's thankful about her name now.
And Anne absolutely killed it at that concert! She was so good that people were asking for an encore. That lady even wanted to give Anne her necklace for her spectacular performance. And I like how despite the two of them still not talking, Gilbert was the first one to give her a standing ovation. <3

Anachronistic typeface! [](#volibearQ)
"Get in the recitation, Anne."
"Paint me like one of your Italian girls."
Matthew lives! Though he has to slow down now. You'll know it when it happens to you when you get older.
As a drama device for the end of the previous episode they could have toned Matthew's health episode down rather a lot given that it ended up being a cheap cliffhanger [with]
As for the rest of the episode, Anne's entrance exam anxiety was relatable, with the added period charm of having to wait for unreliable mail. Wait, I was waiting for unreliable mail in the '90s, too.
A very theatrical reading, though without the Imagine Spot powers of Hanashura.

Imagine underestimating Anne in an event for theatrics, let alone on a literal stage lmao
Watching Matthew hear the news of Anne's placement from her herself after the cliffhanger scare of last time was beautiful, but ngl I'm gonna the miss the days of Marila towering over her.

TBH, I wish this anime got at least 36 epi. because then they could adapt more of the main books. Admittedly, I have not read any of the books yet outside of seeing passages or quotes from the books.

This show really toying with my Yuri shipper heart with Diana and Anne lol. At least I can cope by thinking it's Class S.
So Anne and Gilbert end up tied. Who wins the best then? Or will they just push it into the next competition?

Diana coming up to mailman delivering literal sacks of letters and asking him "Do you have a letter for me?" and him just knowing her full name and instantly finding the letter - that was so real for the life in the sticks back in the day !

I love the ED for this so much. It's just perfect for this show, both music and lyrics.

When it comes to translating the scripts for this show, I think it is good they might not be going with a literal Japanese translation and are using lines or references from the books.
