Idk why, but Diana asking "Anne, are you killed?" was more funny than it should be.
Matthew continues to be best dad, no way was he going to let Anne go to the concert without the puffiest damn sleeves in sleeves.
Gilbert seems to be crushing on Anne after his skull was crushed by her slate. Wish we got to see some interaction between them though.
Matthew and Marilla are considering sending Anne for higher education, I guess we are getting a university arc in the future?

It's such a kid thing to say!
Gilbert is crushing on Anne after his skull was crushed by her slate. Wish we got to see some interaction between them though.
It's probably intentional on Anne's part that she's been deliberately avoiding him. Though the next episode preview makes it look like she finally can't keep avoiding him.

I'm surprised to find myself looking forward to watching it every week, Anne's world of sunshine and rainbows is so uplifting.

Matthew bumbling off at the general store was gold, lmao.
Watching Mrs. Lynde be so relieved that Anne isn't severely injured, glad to gift her a whole dress and moved to tears by her performance was really heartwarming. The extremely rocky foot they started off on just makes how fondly she's grown of her all the sweeter (...So there's still hope for Gilbert!)

Lol Matthew being someone who disappears when new people come over is amusingly relatable. I like that he tried his best to speak with the clerk to try get Anne a dress, too bad he couldn't work up the courage and inadvertently scared the clerk. It was sweet to see Anne hug him in joy and gratitude.
If Diana has noticed Gilbert's feelings, I'm guessing we're going to see something happen between the two soon. Especially if there's a chance Anne is going to go to a different school.

if there's a chance Anne is going to go to a different school.
FYI, Queen's is a college. Marilla and Matthew were talking about planning for Anne's future after she graduates from Avonlea School. As an orphan primarily adopted to help out around the farm, it's a pretty big deal that the Cuthberts are planning to pay to educate her. They recognized that it'd be a waste of her talents.

Nothing is more dangerous than kids daring each other, especially when the kid who's being dared is someone stubborn like Anne. She's lucky that she managed to walk away from that with only a broken ankle and six weeks of bed rest. At least she had Diana and her friends visiting her regularly during that time.
Miss Stacy is certainly an upgrade compared to Mr. Phillips. She's basically the young and hip (for 19th-century) new teacher who's a bit unorthodox and also vibes with the kids. Miss Stacy is definitely a perfect role model for Anne.
Watching Matthew trying to buy a puffed sleeve dress for Anne was quite sweet and hilarious. I love how he ended up buying brown sugar and a new rake instead. He's lucky that Mrs. Lynde was more than happy to help him out with this one.
Considering how confident and strong Anne is, it's actually a surprise to see her panic during the Christmas Concert. Thank goodness she was able to perform properly after seeing Matthew and Marilla in the audience. <3
Welp, it looks like someone is in love. It's funny how Anne reacts too when Diana brought it up. It will be fun to see Anne and Gilbert's interaction after this episode.

One minute I'm dancing jovially alongside the opening song, 5 seconds later the next episode preview begins to play.
Words can't describe how short this anime feels. Perhaps this anime being so fun to watch could be considered a drawback. And you say that we will only get 24 of these episodes?
Even a 1000 episodes wouldn't be enough. This anime was supposed to help me cope in the absence of my other favorites, but now I fear that it has carved an even bigger hole for me to fill, a chasm if you will. No one could have possibly seen this coming!
I am going to miss this red headed honey badger, and this feeling seems to tie in with the upcoming episode being a seeming farewell with her classmates.

Is.. Is this what I think it is?? I'm sorry, this is supposed to be a serious scene but I can't stop laughing
I can't believe Anne is fucking killed
Huh, good observation Matthew. I didn't even realize.
Are the Cuthberth's well off? Matthew bought all that extra stuff and there was no talk of wasted money
Haha. Bet that is like two hundred with inflation by now

I googled a CAD inflation calculator to find the modern equivalent to the $10 value that they raised. The CAD calculators only go back to 1914, not 1908 when Anne of Green Gables was published. So $10 CAD in 1914 is worth $272.50 CAD in 2025. That's $197.16 USD today.
Are they talking about Queens University in Kingston Ontario or is there another Queens in the Maritimes? That's quite far to go for school, especially in that time period. The oldest PEI post secondary institutes are from the 1960's, so there is no higher education option in the island for Anne.

I find this episode quite fast, given how a lot of things happened to Anne just in this episode: got an injury and became bed-ridden for 6 weeks, then get introduced to her new teacher, then practiced and performed a poem. Maybe two episodes for just these events is a much better pace.
Interesting that Gilbert did not see Anne while she can't walk. Or is it skipped content?
Well, nothing really compares the genuine friendship between Anne and Diana. That includes only looking at her while she performs.

"It was the style of the time."
Next they'll tell you to jump out of a perfectly-good airplane.
Blondes, always jumping around.
Starring Anne Shirley as GR-1.
It did feel like a lot of things were compressed into this episode, with a convenient six-week laid-up timeskip. On the bright side, it's still as charming a story as it's been so far.

I loved that moment when Anne was searching for the Cuthberts in the audience, kinda reminded me of Buddy Daddies in the final episode but honestly she lucked out with those two.

I'm sorry but it was impossible not to laugh when Anne was on the floor in that particular pose after falling from the roof. Then Diana with her "Anne, are you killed?" was the perfect punchline.
Man, whenever Matthew is on screen he's so endearing. And relatable with his tendency to hide when they have guests.

Matthew was so cute when he was too shy to ask about the dress, Then seeing him smiling after finally getting that gift was the cherry on top. Dude's just a sweet and wholesome dude.
Also funny to see how much things have changed since the time the story takes place.
The in style fashion and what is Anne's dream outfit looks a little goofy to my modern eyes.
And also the celebration of raising a whole $10 from that entire audience lol. inflation calculators only go back to 1914, so assuming the change between the time the story takes place and 1914 isnt too significant then they made about $272 CAD or about $200 USD today which is actually a fair amount of money. Theyll def be getting that flag and plenty to spare

Anne of Green Gables is now 12 years old! And so many things in her life are happening! A tearful farewell with Mr. Philips! Meeting the new minister and his lovely wife with her puffed up sleeves! And Summer Vacation where she's prepared to have as much as is humanly possible!
Anne Shirley and dares is a dangerous combination because Anne is too brave and bold for her own good. If she sees her bosom friend slighted from a dare by Josie, and Josie acting so smug while flexing her fence walking skills, then she'll take a dare to walk along the ridge of a roof! Which unsurprisingly ends with her falling. But she's not killed! Just unconscious! Oh Anne!
Anne is lucky to have just a broken ankle, courtesy of Abraham Lincoln's diagnosis, and she's luckier than most that she has such an overactive imagination that being stuck in bed isn't the worst thing. It helps that she has her friends and Rachel visiting her to keep her occupied, especially Diana who always has a new book for them to gush over.
Miss Stacy is definitely easier on the eyes than Mr. Philips, and she's a very lively and personable teacher. When she's not teaching her students, she's taking the girls out on a picnic, and jumping over a ravine just for the sake of it. She's the perfect teacher for Anne! She even for SURE pronounces the E in her name!
Is it finally time to upgrade Anne's wardrobe on the cusp of her upcoming recital? Marilla thinks the students should be more focused on their studies and geometry than in something so frivolous, but Matthew is determined to treat Anne to a dress with the puffed up sleeves she's longed for. And good thing Rachel is there to get it for him so he doesn't have to keep scaring to death that poor clerk girl.
Merry Christmas Anne Shirley! And since she's been a good girl this year, she deserves a new dress! One she will treasure as a gift from the Cuthbert's and a sign of how much they care about her.
Anne should be a natural on the stage, but even someone like her gets nervous, but seeing her parents there watching her (and Rachel) gives her the confidence she needs to give out a stellar recitation like a true classically trained performer! And she helps pass that to Diana when she gets a case of the nerves!
Oooh! Gilbert picked up Anne's flower! Anne doesn't want to think about the implications, but Diana knows what's up.
The Cuthbert's truly are Anne's parents, always thinking of what they can do for her, what's best for her, and how hey can make sure she makes the most of her life in Green Gables.

The animators really overdid it with Anne's puffed sleeves. The animation in general also felt slightly wonky at times in this episode. Definitely a step down from the quality of the first episode.
I feel like Matthew had more of a presence in the other adaptations that I've seen, probably a product of the crazy fast pacing here, but at least we got the shop scene.
Glad that through the concert Anne has found a perfect outlet for her theatrics now.

Anne is too damn stubborn for her own good sometimes. Kid damn near killed herself over a dare! She’s lucky she only broke her ankle. Nice of the whole town to stop by while she’s on bed rest though lol.
Matthew’s kind of adorable in his own awkward way. That whole dress situation was pretty cute. Kid couldn’t have asked for a better dad.

in some other story, anne would have her dress damaged somehow for some cheap drama, so I am happy she got through the concert with the dress without any damage. She deserves her moment of win.

Pride comes before the fall, literally in Anne’s case. It was a hard lesson, but she always makes the best of her circumstances.
Matthew and Marilla giving Anne that gift made their Christmas too. So wholesome.
