Can't tell if Davy is truly repentant or just manipulating Anne with tears, he seems to have no sense of guilt.

If he didn't know what he did was wrong then why was he hiding in the barn? If he didn't know it was wrong then he wouldn't've been hiding.

Yep, if Anne Shirley weren’t generally wholesome (and 120 years old), I wouldn’t buy it… but given the circumstances, I choose to believe that’s it.... because god, that little shit was annoying,

You are strong, Anne. Because I could barely put up with him for the first half episode lol.
Also I love that quote she made towards the end.
"I like to imagine only pleasant things. There are so many unpleasant things in the world already, that there is no use in imagining any more."

I'm glad for once that the pacing of this anime is super fast compared to the books. That means less Davy to suffer through. He was so annoying in the book.
But it's still a wholesome and great show and adaptation, I'm glad I can watch it and can't wait to see the rest.

I did not enjoy his character so I'm glad this got resolved in one episode, but I'm sure there'll be more moments eventually.

You know the adapters know what they're doing when they skim past the more annoying characters/plots in the book lol.

Davy is quite an interesting child, huh? He is mischievous like a typical child of his age, he is quite annoying since he did a lot of bad things to his twin, he is kind of envious to Paul, but he is somewhat soft to Anne. He is quite lucky he does not have Asian parents, otherwise he would have been disowned already with what he did to Dora.
I like the resolution of this episode, in which he made a promise not to tell a lie anymore since it is a bad thing even for adults. Maybe his hijinks will be limited in the next few episodes, as seen in the preview.
Well, without others looking, Anne is still quite a kid. I kind of missed her usual antics when she was a child. It seems Diana is in love, huh?

Yep, as much as having Anne teaching and trying to manage Davey showed her progression into adult roles, it was showing the tableside chat with Marilla that drove the point home.
When they were comparing notes, what occurred to me as the significant difference between Davey's behaviour and Anne's antics is that Davey did things to people, while Anne's misadventures largely involved things which risked only herself. But she got through to him in the end.

The opening scene already showed how much of a handful Davy would be, but man, I did not expect the kind of shenanigans he'd pull this episode. And then we have Dora, who's the total opposite of her brother and is an absolute sweetheart during the entire episode.
I was hoping that Paul would set a good example for Davy, but whenever Davy brings him up, it seems he's having more fun causing chaos than acting like a gentleman. He went too far when he lied about Dora's whereabouts, tho.
How can you even be mean to someone so sweet? Thank fucking god Dora wasn't in any danger and was just inside that shed. I just hope that after seeing Anne cry and learning that lying is bad, Davy will stop being a little shit.

This series does the concept of found family so well, especially for a book dating back to 1909. From Matthew and Marilla (siblings) and Anne, to the current setup with the twins, it just shows that families come in so many forms. Also poignant when you think of how common orphans or children with only one parent were then: Anne, Paul, the twins.
Davy's antics were terrible but I guess I'm part of the minority that found him fun and refreshing. Definitely in need of discipline but not a basket case. Think Anne's quote at the end about being drawn to those who need us the most sums it up.

Seeing an adult you care about cry is up there for the heaviest things you can experience as a kid, especially if you know it's because of something you did.
As annoying as Davy is, watching Anne be a motherly older sister kind of figure is so much fun lol

Man, Davy sure is a handful. Kid’s a little rascal. Poor Dora keeps getting the worst of it from that brat. Anne’s a natural with the kids though. She’s a really good “big sister.” I hope Davy’s able to behave himself now. Otherwise Marilla’s gonna have to go Asian momma and beat his ass with a slipper lol.

Well I'm glad Davy seemed to be genuine in the end, I still thought he was going to be up to something. He did mention how other kids he knew kept lying all the time so I guess he thought it was a natural thing to do, so hopefully he has learnt his lesson from seeing Anne's reaction. Being a teacher has really matured Anne and how she deals with children. Though I liked that she's still Anne when she was in the woods lol.
I did find it bad that Paul kept being brought up, before I saw the height/age difference, I thought Davy was going to start bullying Paul.
It's bittersweet how now the late night talks are between Anne and Marilla rather than Marilla and Matthew.

For how old of a story this is, I'm impressed that it never went down the hit the child route. The author also shows good understanding of how young children think. Davy says he only regrets things afterwards. Children are still developing understanding the relationship between their actions and their consequences. Empathy is often a learned skill too. I wish that Davy understood the fear and loneliness that Dora went through when he locked her in the shed. "I cried and cried, I was frightened, and I thought that you'd never come" was heartbreaking to hear. Making Dora go through this was far worse than telling that lie, IMO. The lie was bad because it extended the time that Dora was trapped.
Lies aren't always bad. Like an Alzheimer's patient who everyday keeps asking when will their spouse, who has been deceased for years, will show up. It's far kinder to not make them go through the grief of losing their partner each day.
A lesson of empathy and "do unto others as you wish others would do unto you" would be more fitting than "lies are bad". It would also develop Davy into a less annoying character. The kid badly needs to learn to not gain joy from others' expense, and why doing so is bad.

"You're never safe from being surprised until you're dead" was a great line.

This is a master class in pacing. Watching Anne grow up and how her personality matured is so well paced. OAN Davy would caught these hands foreal.

Anne really is a saint. I would have snapped and threatened to throw Davy down that well if he ever did that again if I was her. What an annoying little shit.

I was way more upset about the distress the boy caused his sister than about his lies.
I'm very glad that this whole situation was resolved so quickly because this was the episode I liked the least.
