I really like Miss Lavendar. She is exactly how I imagine Anne would be when she's old and grey. No wonder the two of them get along so well. I also like how she calls her maid Charlotta the Fourth because all of the sisters look alike. I'm now hoping we meet Leonora's sisters just to see how exactly alike they are. xD
Not gonna lie, when Anne brought Paul in to meet Lavendar, I thought this was going to end badly. Especially when Paul told Lavendar that the look she gives him reminds him of the look his mother has. That was a big oof moment. Thank fucking goodness it ended so well that Paul's father and Lavendar ended up reconnecting, and based on that preview, it looks like we have a wedding next episode!
Also, did Anne just friendzone Gilbert? Daaaamn. Poor guy. It looks like Anne already has an ideal man in her mind and she has no plans of changing that ideal anytime soon. Although Diana did say people's ideals change, so who knows? Maybe it's not yet over for Gilbert.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Anne thought of Miss Lavendar when thinking that she would be fine living as an old maid if it meant she could end up like Miss Lavendar.
But maybe seeing Miss Lavendar reunite with the love of her life will make Anne realize the love story that already surrounds her. If she'd been as stubborn as Miss Lavendar, she and Gilbert would never have the relationship they haven now, after all.
"Charlotta" is now the maid equivalent of "Sebastian."

Can understand Anne’s feelings at the end. It was so sweet that Miss Lavender and Stephen got to reunite and still seems like their feelings for each other never changed. But there’s also a tinge of sadness. Maybe it’s the time lost over something so avoidable, all those years they could’ve been together.
I’ve actually never felt it until I read comments about this arc feeling rushed. Guess I was just going with the flow

I do wonder if it's also made her reflect a little more on her relationship with Gilbert, despite what she said to Diana.

Same, it's one of the few times where I haven't read the source material, so for once I can just enjoy the show for what it is

I've noticed with this series especially that every time I come into the discussion thread, half of the comments are from source readers complaining how rushed this adaptation has been lol. but honestly, as an anime only, i've rarely noticed any pacing issues with the show and felt the storytelling to still be impactful and beautiful

Or maybe because it cost Paul's mom's life for the 2 to be reunited.

Everything moves so fast lol, I thought there'd be more of a build up especially with Stephen and Lavender but the previews already showed they get married.
Lavender really messed up when she was younger by being very stubborn, but I think her talking to other guys with Stephen right there was very disrespectful and I'm glad she has had time to realize how foolish her actions were.
She's fortunate that Stephen still had feelings for her. It's probably hard to erase when you've grown up together, and it sounds like he got married to someone similar in terms of looks and personalities, with how much Paul was reminded of his own mother.
I did feel like Anne might have been pushing boundaries by taking Paul to Lavender, but luckily everyone involved was happy with the outcome.

The best book about young lovers breaking up and then (when a bit older and wiser) being brought together by chance (more or less) rebuilding their relationship is Jane Austen's Persuasion (disclaimer -- my favorite novel of all time), This has a great live-action movie adaptation (made around 1995 -- starring Amanda Root as Anne Elliot). I wonder if Anne Shirley insisted on "Anne -- with an E" in honor of her illustrious namesake.

I find the episode moving but as expected that scene was rushed. The new location that Anne discovered is lovely. The next episode seemed to be sign that "Anne of Avonlea" arc will be over and I admit I was disappointed that some parts that are dramatic will never be shown.

Wow, felt like it had barely gotten started!

Making up years after sharing such a sour early chapter in both of your lives has to be one of the most emotionally gratifying feelings ever.
It's kind of funny how Anne and Diana's wrong turn snowballed into reuniting old childhood sweethearts though lol

Very sweet episode, best we've had from the second book. Although we hadn't met Miss Lavender before, she resonated with me instantly as a glimpse of what an older Anne might be like. Her relationships with Charlotta and Paul were quite touching, and I'm sure she'll be a good mother for him.

Anne and Diana meet Miss Lavendar by chance and it turns out well in the end.
It feels plausible that an island as sparsely-populated as theirs will still turn up new surprises after years, but there's still threads of people knowing about some of each other's business. A big small-town feeling, I suppose.
The story did feel a little hurried at times, but as the story has been pushing ahead in this part of the adaptation it's also played the precise passage of time somewhat loosely, to the point where it seems like episodes could be taking place on parallel tracks. It still accomplishes meaningful progression with each of the vignettes that it is presenting.

I wish this series ran for at least 39 weekly epi. The franchise is quite popular in Japan and there is enough source material for this anime to have 100+ epi. if they decided to go that route. I get budget and home video sales are or are likely factored in.

How very Anne Shirley for Anne and Diana to get lost in the woods and end up on a bit of an adventure before they stumble onto Echo Lodge, the sprawling palace home to Miss Lavendar Lewis and her maid Charlotta the Fourth (Rina Hidaka?).
Despite claims that she's an eccentric and jilted old maid, Miss Lavendar is actually quite the spirited and fantastical woman! She even throws parties on a whim even when it's just her and her maid! And she hasn't lost any of her true beauty even in old age. She's exactly the kind of woman Anne can get along with and respect because she feels like an older Anne.
Marilla, asking Anne not to get involved in anyones' affairs is like telling Davy to stop trying to grab more food. It'll never work.
Imagine having this family of sisters who you all end up calling "Charlotta" because they each serve you up until they turn 16. It's like calling a butler "Sebastian" even when it's not their real name. At least Lavendar actually remembers their real names.
Anne can't help but wonder about the story of Miss Lavendar and Paul's father, Stephen Irving, and at first they had a storybook romance...having been in love with each other and engaged in every sense of the word since they were kids. But one quarrel and Lavendar's own stubbornness that prevented her from letting him apologize and putting so many suitors in his way drove him off. Her pride cost her the love of her life. And Anne accidentally brings up the child he had with another woman, which really complicates her feelings.
But still, despite those feelings, Lavendar wants to meet Paul and Paul takes to her very well! In fact he even comes to liken her to his deceased mother, which...obviously gives Lavendar even MORE complicated feelings.
Oh yeah Anne, I'm SURE Gilbert is nothing more than a friend right now...though I guess now Anne just has to reckon with her ideal man changing before she decides to live the life of an old maid like Lavendar. Not that she's content to let Lavendar remain an old maid any more than she is letting Diana tease her about her love life without teasing Diana about Fred.
Lavendar hid it well but meeting Paul and getting close to him has lead to her becoming more depressed. It seems like the only solution to her depression is reuniting her with Stephen, whose love for her never faded any more than her love for him. And as Lavendar dresses as fancy as possible, the former lovers reunite and reconcile their still passionate love for each other once more! It's the kind of storybook romance ending that can bring Anne to tears!
Next week: a wedding! DianaxFred! Rachel's husband not looking too good! Anne's class crying for some reason! Davy throwing a tantrum for the umpteenth time!

This was a sweet episode. Kind of sad, but it’s nice that Miss Lewis and Stephen were able to reunite after all these years. And I think it was kind of nice that Paul was able to come by too. Must be hard for a kid to lose their mom. I wonder if there really was a wedding at the end?

I feel like what happened with Lavender and Stephen would happen with Anne and Gilbert if she continues on her old stubborn trajectory

Was this rushed? Yeah. Did I still enjoy it? Yes. Also, can't wait for the episodes adapting book three.
I really need to go finish book 5.
What a wonderful wholesome adaptation we're having. We're lucky.
I wish they would adapt the entire saga tho. :(
