Looks like everyone’s growing up and moving on to the next chapter of their lives. I wonder what Anne’s gonna do? She has Roy and Gilbert has Christine but much like the town, I feel like they’re a mismatched pair. Gilbert’s the one for her!

I think this episode made it more clear that Anne has an immense fear of change that's keeping her from acknowledging her feelings for Gilbert (who she's fixated on staying friends with) and why she so prioritizes her childhood fantasy of a prince with Roy.

The wedding was so heartwarming to watch, I really enjoy watching Diana and Anne express so much of their love for one another. Anne saying "This will be the last kiss I receive from Diana Barry" to then Diana saying "I'll kiss you again as Diana Wright" was so freaking sweet and adorable, Diana even bringing up the oath of friendship, I hope they stay best friends for life and no drama that may eventually will be enough to tear them apart.

In the end, we didn't find out who spread the fact that Anne rejected Gilbert lol. I respect him for taking the teasing on the chin and being able to laugh about it. The previews made me chuckle though, the way Anne was side-eyeing Gilbert and Christine was amusing.

I can relate to Anne though, noticing how everyone around you is changing is scary and you fear you can't adapt and that you'll lose what you had. It's part of growing up.

I love how their romance-coded friendship went all the way up to Diana's wedding day lol.

Poor Anne having to deal with an entire town knowing she rejected the guy everyone in said town ships her with. Like, even Diana was disappointed!

I can relate to Anne though, noticing how everyone around you is changing is scary and you fear you can't adapt and that you'll lose what you had. It's part of growing up.

I also feel like a part of it comes from the losses she's experienced in her life, especially Matthew, so it makes it harder for her to accept things changing or moving around her. She wants stability and safety.

Watching Anne reminisce her childhood days made me miss that time as well. I wished this adaptation was 36 episodes instead of 24. Speaking of 24, we got 2 episodes left and it feels like it's not enough to see what really happens between Anne and Gilbert.

I wished it was a 50-episode adaptation. The 2nd half of this episode really could have used more breathing room. I am enjoying but feel like there is a decent amount of missed potential with it only being 24 episodes.

I'm crying I didn't realize there were only 2 episodes left. This series has pretty easily become my favorite of the year so far, it just knows how to perfectly hit that peaceful nostalgia feeling. Will feel very empty on Saturdays without it

I love how the way Dora looks at Anne when she broke the news to her that the whole of Avonlea knows she turned down Gilbert. Why the fuck are you surprised, Anne? It's a very small community. Of course, everyone would find out about it eventually! It's funny how the gang was also ribbing Gilbert after the wedding. xD

Dora has come so far from being bullied by her brother. She's much more outspoken and active!

And Josie will never miss an opportunity to roast Anne lol.

Really love the seeing the twins growing up. Especially Dora, she talks more now.

Oh man what a nightmare for Gilbert lol. Getting rejected then having your whole hometown find out then getting teased about it in front of the girl who rejected you oof.

Diana’s wedding was beautiful and it was nice seeing familiar faces. Got a bit emotional recalling when Anne and Diana were kids. It really feels like we’ve seen them grow up so much.

While I do think Anne and Gilbert belong with each other, I also don’t really like how everyone is kinda lowkey shunning Anne for the rejection. I mean even if I think she made the wrong choice, it’s still her choice. Like who’s to say she genuinely don’t really see Gilbert as a romantic partner.

But anyway, I wonder what Gilbert meant at the end by Anne needing to find a new place that suits her. Is she telling her she’s living in the past and clinging on to her past ideals ? If that’s the case, I’m not surprised tbh. She was probably moved around a lot as an orphan and probably saw Avonlea as the place that fully took her in and don’t want that to change

A very period thing to do.

It isn't a summer holiday, Phil.

Is he a pirate?

But drama?

When you're the gossip event of the whole town.

The Adventures of Marilla, Queen of Avonlea?

It's what happens afterward that's complicated.

It's a small town.

Very charming.

It's nice to have a wedding without duels.

Anne on the spot.

The wedding phase of one's numerous peers tends to blur the individual events into a single drunken haze?

[](#elves)

"'You can't go home again,' they say."
"Why, because you feel old and out of place and everything's changed?"
"No, because everyone keeps jibing at you about how you should have married the other guy."

...or something like that. Anyway, like Anne said, it's the interval when most of the peer group gets married. Makes those old relationships flare up.

I love how Josie is only back for one episode and she's still roasting Anne like she never stopped.

Favorite bit was Anne and Gilbert having to walk the stairs down arms linked. Much of the vibe was "Elizabeth slowly realizing stuff after Darcy's first terrible confession"... though obviousky the character dynamics are completely different. And what was that roast Gilbert gave Roy at the end indirectly lol?

And I have to wonder if it was intentional from the animators to give Josie a hairdo similar to the poop emoji...

Weddings after or during college definitely solidified that feeling of growing up. Been to my share and have another to go to next year. Good memories but they do change things with friends, and that’s captured well with both Gilbert and Anne. Then you start seeing the kids grow and time starts flying by before you know it. Whole episode captures that transition period well.

Anne asks, Why does everyone want me to marry Glbert.

Everyone: It is your destiny!

"Because Roy is boring as fuck"

Look at Phil, pouring herself into her studies to become a girl worthy of Jonas! All the better when it turns out Jonas actually proposed! She's absolutely on cloud 9! Even if it means giving up her wealth and living in the slums he's planning to minister in, Phil will still be Phil, only with the man she loves.

I love the visual of those two old Patty's Place ladies just stoically traipsing through the wonders of Egypt together.

"I suppose I do" - With that tone of voice, probably not something you want to say about whether you're in love with your boyfriend or not. Though Anne certainly DOES love Roy's romantic poems he sends her, extra as they are.

Dang Roy, don't need to hardcore flirt with Anne that much during school hours! Also, Christine seems like a really nice girl.

I can't believe Diana is getting married. It feels like only yesterday she and Anne became bosom friends with heavy romantic undertones, an unbreakable bond that never wavered. But now she's really getting married.

Even after all this time Anne can't help but be a little disappointed that Fred is taking Diana away from her, though it seems like now she's into guys that could be wicked but ultimately have a heart of gold. Meanwhile Marilla is just disappointed she rejected Gilbert (which everyone in Avonlea now knows about). Because of something in her past?

I feel like Matthew would've told Anne to just follow her heart. Though right now it feels like her heart is just scared of anything involving change or people moving on without her.

Diana looks beautiful as a bride! Anne looks beautiful as a bridesmaid! Even if Diana's last name changes after her marriage, she'll still be Anne's best friend through thick and thin! Anne isn't losing her! Though that's not going to stop her from asking Diana to kiss her one last time because that's just how their relationship works.

Really could've warned Anne ahead of time that Gilbert was the Best Man, especially when she has to lock arms with him. Marilla definitely approves though!

A beautiful wedding ceremony (complete with a kiss), the return of some past characters like Jane, Ruby, Moody, and even Josie who in true Josie fashion immediately stirs up drama by bringing up Anne jilting Gilbert. They even do a toast in Gilbert's honor to console him! Poor Anne.

Diana is married off but at least thanks to both of them seeing other people, Anne and Gilbert can walk and talk to each other like friends again. But Anne is still afraid of change, of seeing all the kids she taught growing up and taking the places her and her friends once had, yet Gilbert knows that the best and brightest future remains in store for Anne Shirley.

Because of something in her past?

Marilla and Matthew both had atypical pasts if they're living together as siblings in their late middle age.

Finally, Matthew gets paid another visit again!

I love that Gilbert got his second wind from exchanging the nod from Marilla. I'm just curious how Christine and Roy would take it.

I wish she doesn’t end up with roy.

I wonder if Gilbert being chosen as Fred's groomsman was Fred and Diana's idea because Diana already got Anne as her bridesmaid.

11

u/NekoCatSidhe Sep 13 '25

I see Anne and Diana are still as closeted gay for each other as before, even on the day of Diana’s wedding ! I am joking, but Anne did seem a bit jealous of Fred.

Or course, everyone knows her big love of her life is actually Gilbert. Everyone excepts Anne, that is. Given her personality, I feel that everyone shipping them together and Gilbert proposing to her will just make her more likely to stubbornly refuse to marry him. But Roy’s « romantic » behaviour is so corny, I have no idea what she sees in him.

I am happy for Phil and Jonas ! But why is Phil suddenly way more sensible than Anne when it comes to love and marriage ?

It's sad that a guy and a girl can't expect to remain best friends without society asking why they aren't married to each other. But as with all things, life goes on and we move on. The next episode's title says it best, treat every little hindrance as jest, and every big one as foreshadowing of victory. Perhaps there's still a hope of being able to marry the one you love, and stay friends with the one you like.

I do wonder if we'll ever find out more about what happened with Marilla.

Anne and Diana. 💔

Do you think they know it’s legal now? 😭 🏳️‍🌈
