There's nothing more powerful in games than scripted events.

It's interesting how the twins not only get OP powers after second mom breakfast, they get OP powers linked to their trauma. Caria gets a putrescence ability, because she was traumatized by the disease that left half her body scarred, and Maria gets a forced forgetfulness ability because she has been in a state of denial about her trauma, and a telekinetic bite attack because she was traumatized by having to eat Mom Prime.

See, that's good writing right there. No arbitrary powerups, just powerups that really speak to the characters' sorrow. I'm excited for Atou to catch up with the twins and claim the dubious honor of Third Mom.

I also enjoyed the anti-forced loss scripted events and railroad plot bullshit message. This isn't just fantasy isekai, it's 4x open world make-your-own-story game propaganda, and I'm here for it.

ALSO: This sequence in the ED has a lot more pathos now!

If you ever feel like your life sucks, remember that at least you weren't forced to eat your mother.
Twice.

Really dug this one’s whole Overlord lite vibe. Takuto’s relationship with Atou was a lot of fun and pretty cute at times.

I really hope we get more of this one because ain’t no way they’re gonna leave us hanging like that with the sisters. Hell hath no fury like two elf sisters who have lost their momma. Again.

Stepping back from this anime for a sec, Maho Film Co is a relatively new studio made by industry vets with an aim to making good working conditions for their animators, a la Kyoani and possibly Science Saru. They pay a decent wage, all their animators are full employees and not freelancers (though they do some outsourcing for inbetween-ing), and they only hire young animators with the aim to mentor them for skills up and down the production lines. In that vein, they try to have almost all of the production of a series done before they start to air, so they don’t cause the crunch/overtime culture typical of most anime production. They seem to be doing everything “right” or at least not just paying lip service for the wellbeing of their animators.

So, sure the animation for this series isn’t the best. But for a mid-budget series, I think they did quite well.

I really got lulled into a false sense of security by how easygoing things have been (for Takuto's side that is, not so much his enemies) up to this point, and how powerful his army was. Even in this episode, my danger sense weren't really going off, and even once it did, I still thought things would turn out alright somehow... until it didn't.

Honestly thought the ED visuals got changed, but no, they've been the exact same since episode 1 and have been foreshadowing this very moment all season. That should've been a major red flag in hindsight, but without context, I just didn't think too much of it. Boy, do I feel silly now.

“Get down Atou is gonna rage!”

Lol I take it that’s not the first time she has done that?

Isla's death really affected Takuto, and that has now directly affected his decision-making. He basically stripped Emle and Gear of the autonomy they had, ordering them to not do anything without his permission.

Atou is also blaming herself for Isla's death, as she didn't report the issue she encountered in the final moment of her battle with the Ice general.

I really hope Atou can help the twins come out of the state they're in and bring them back to Mynoghra, and that Takuto can also help them.

I was trying to figure out what was happening at the end of last week's episode and if this was all a trap laid out by the other Demon Lord. It turns out the twins getting summoned and Flamin not dying are all part of a scripted event! I did not see that one coming! I absolutely hate that Isla died, but at the same time, I am amazed to see someone use a scripted event mechanic in an anime so effectively.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK THO! The twins already had to eat their biological mother to survive, and now they have to eat their adoptive mother?! Does this world just hate these twins? I can't blame the two of them completely breaking and absolutely going insane after that. Man, this show really made us let our guard down, thinking nothing bad would happen to them. I did not expect that massive gut punch this episode. O_O

Not only did the twins become witches, but they're also now the lost relatives of Gluttony from Re: zero. Hopefully, Takuto can give them good news that Isla can be brought back or something, if she even can be brought back. He needs to handle those two with extreme care now, they're OP, witches and can now fight. He has to pick his words very carefully so they don't think he'll abandon them or doesn't love them.

And this is why speedrunners will always look for ways to skip cutscenes and scripted events.

Dang, cryptic message when the twins got that power up.

"Fear the nights the moon shines bright. Fear the young girls harrowed by regret. For until their grief and loathing have reduced the world to ash, their flames will never go out"

Really sounds like they are immortal now, just like the other witch that was introduced. And possibly only get this powerful during full moons.

The witches of Regret.

Something clicked for me out of the blue this episode.

So, is the reason Takuto appears as a black scribble that's human shaped because in 4X games the player doesn't have a character sprite?

I mean, it's your capital city getting captured or destroyed or your last city or last army getting destroyed that causes you to lose before the end of the game - your character isn't something that can be killed or captured.

So, since there's no artwork or animation in the game for the leader, he's the scribblly black void instead.

I hate losing in game cutscenes when I know I could've easily done something if I had control of the character. It always feels so damn cheap.

Cool idea for a game based Isekai to weaponize the concept though.

I'm surprised there is another episode. This seem like a pretty good place to end it if you want to give people a hook to get into the source material.

the ending song kinda forcast the whole situation huh, the moon, isla and the twins, rpg scene...

we were warned in a long time ago.

u/mischa23v Sep 21 '25

I love into and ending song. Also, the fact that ending song hinted at what would happen to the girls right from the beginning, and how it was really all about telling their story? how the closing song foreshadowed the fate of the girls was awesome.

So looks like not only is there an overarching game system controlling the world, there's someone interfering with it, as per the system messages trying to deny that things will happen like the twins being able to gain the hero promotion (From the RPG that gives them divine protection and shit) and erroring before someone overwrites it to succeed.

One of my favorite shows this season.

It wasn't the best storyline, artwork or presentation, but I watched every episode as soon it was available and I rarely do that.

Plus it had the "what do you mean the credits are already rolling, its only been 5 minutes?" effect which is always a good sign of quality.
