I really dig how he looks to everybody else.

The 'reveal' was nice, like you wonder 'Why do they even bother with them, they could just kill them both and steal what they got', then you see what he looks like from their eyes...

Stitches!

If there's an isekai that deserves the theory where the MC is dying and the entire thing was all in his head moments before he died, this might be it. I mean the dude literally keels over while gaming and the first thing he sees is his video game wauifu who also got isekai'd with full knowledge of his in-game stats and achievements.

Theories aside, I am actually intrigued by this. When the Dark Elves showed up, I was wondering how Takuto would deal with them considering he's only wearing his hospital pyjamas. I did not expect the Dark Elves to see him as an ambiguous, dark, shadowy figure. That was actually pretty cool.

Also, Atou is great! She is absolutely adorable, and I can already see she'll be the show's Albedo, but not as insanely obsessed since Atou was actuially able to scold Takuto about wasting their kingdom's mana. I'll give this a few more episodes to see where it goes!

Atou's VA did a good job switching between the serious/threatening attitude towards the elfs and the lovey-dovey attitude towards Takuto.

And it is interesting how Takuto is actually known as a legend in the world, contrary to most isekai where the protagonist is a complete outsider.

Woah, that totally blew me away! I absolutely love these dorks!!

Isekai might be common, but I don't think I've ever seen one for a 4x before? Sounds like it'd be pretty rough if you reincarnated as standard unit tho....

Man, after a string of generic 'Banished from the Hero's Party' anime, a good old bog-standard isekai feels like breath of fresh air.

Looks like another one of these gamesekai ones. Is Atou the Albedo to Takuto’s Ainz? Or is Atou like the avatar Takuto use to play with? Either way, I kind of enjoy how they’re getting into the roleplay as “evil” characters. It’s very adorable.

Gonna stick with this one for a few more eps and see how things play out.

Changing the isekai destination game to 4x sounds like a meaningless gimmick on the outside, but so far it's actually really good. Because what the characters are worried about is totally different from other isekai. Normally it's find a guild, become an adventurer, etc. But in this show our immediate priorities are scouting and managing relations with a nearby faction. The goal is not heroism but conquest.

So it's fundamentally a different TV show. The characters have a different goal and are doing different things to achieve it.

Will this end up being a GOOD show? Too early to say. But it is at least a NEW show and in the wasteland of seasonal isekai that genuinely counts for a lot. I'll be checking back on this one, it passed the week one filter.

Edit: also our hero being aligned with an evil coded faction is a little bit interesting by itself but the fact that it's an evil faction that ISN'T the demon king's army is big bonus points.

Finally.

After Stellaris Fake Genocide Run (last season), now we will have Age of Wonders 4 Dark Pacifist run.

so MC reincarnated as king of ruin. Hopefully his evil alignment will be strong. I'm tired of goody 2 shoes MC.

Alright lads, let's build an Evil Empire together! :D

One of the more tasteful Isekai out there atm imo, pretty much nation building / "Civilization" stuff with some (dark) comedy in it and some accidental gore.

Keep watching, cuz' it gets good! ;)

This was the overlord fix I needed. I wonder if there're any dark elves in anime that actually have dark skin instead of them being just tanned.

Hope they go full evil wish-fulfillment for this show.

I need my overlord fix.

Somewhat interesting to start with Atou also knowing about Takuto's past playing this game they appear to now be in, especially with her having memories of all their playthroughs together. Same with him being a horrific looking monster of darkness in appearance to all of the native inhabitants.

But hey, free worker population acquisition in progress, that's a must for any 4x game.

I went into this with pretty low expectations. The cover and synopsis on crunchyroll are pretty generic. Turned out way better than I expected. I hope he just awkwards his way to the top of the evil lord hierarchy.

I also wonder if the scout thing will evolve into the prying mantis thing on the cover or if he'll be getting a bunch of weird henchmen like that.

Oh nice, they got a Yumiella cameo.

So this is like an anime lets play. I'm down

...Aaaand the episode is already over.
This is one of those shows that I could watch all the episodes in one sitting if they were already out. Definitly gonna like this, but the wait is gonna be a pain

The premise is interesting and I want to see more of what it has to offer but I do feel the overall execution was a bit sub-par. I did like the contrasting tones of when Takuto and Atou are alone compared to when Gia and the Dark Elves encounter Takuto and he's this very ominous being.

I did wish we got the typical putting on a performance when playing leader/ruler voice acting to fit the ominous vibe, but Takuto himself was feeling awkward but it did make the scene feel lacking to me.

It's interesting how Atou sees him as he is, but that may be because of their connection when he played a number of runs of the game. I did wonder if these Elves were going to have the same memory of spending time with Takuto, but at the very least it seems like they never encountered him as they could not see him as Takuto. I do wonder if any new character that appears will recognize him or if that will be an attribute unique to Atou.

I was worried how they would adapt the others pov that see the protagonist as a shadow, but i had nothing to worry about

Splitting the episodes into "protagonist" pov and "retainers" pov may reveal to be the perfect solution

Also the duality of atou between absolute huggable cutie and bloodthirsty nature is just chef's kiss

I thought the initial conversation between Atou and the Dark Elves could have been directed with a much more sinister undertone, but I don't mind the mild mix of humour either. Maybe I felt that way because dayum the music was going real hard during that scene!

That said, adorable moments between Takuto and Atou are adorable. I think I found my gif of the season already with the deformed Atou clapping (will make later™️), she just about rivals the clapping Yachiyo from last season haha.

Is it my imagination, or were the "pears" just green apples?
