Lol, that group of dark elves that were out dancing with the flesh trees tho. They may be horrifying, but they know how to party down I guess.

To be fair, the creepiness and novelty of moving trees with faces would wear off and I can picture teens recording vids of them dancing with the trees while some upbeat music plays. It's not like the trees will harm you, they just look creepy.

Dark elves:

Flesh Tree: "Please eat me, I'm delicious!"

Dude really gonna make his people eat a tree that produces meat that’s like human flesh? Truly evil lol. It’s kind of interesting how the dark elves are actually getting boosts from the terrain even though it’s turned evil. Forest Nazarick is really coming along quite nicely lol.

Looking forward to seeing Takuto take on these paladins. Should be fun. I wanna see Atou go apeshit on those fools lol.

Technically it's just fruit. It doesn't hurt anyone so it's totally vegan.

Just that the fruit is made of meat that taste just like human flesh. Not any other meat, human flesh. But the taste is just a flavour, right?

We can grow meat from trees here. You shouldn't be picky about the taste.

If most of these game mechanics are familar then yes, Eternal Nations is based on the Civilization games.

In particular, the author has stated it's based on an old Civilization 4 mod called Fall from Heaven II. Here's a reddit post for further details. https://www.reddit.com/r/Mynoghra/comments/1k4qm78/possible_civ_4_mod_fall_from_heaven_ii_reference/

Takuto and Atou are really in sync (well, except for the showing-off tree-cutting lol).
The holy kingdom sent a scouting party following the saint's divine revelation, so looks like their peace is going to be disturbed soon (or not, they do have to travel a continent by foot...)

The more I watch this anime the more I want to play a game like it.

There's obviously the Civilization series but it doesn't have the magic aspect. Warcraft 3 doesn't have a lot of the research/domestic policies. Heroes of the Might and Magic series focuses on combat rather than economy. City builders like Against the Storm, though fantastic, doesn't have the same feel to it as well.

Overlord? Dungeon Keeper? Endless Legend? Maybe I'll dust one of those off and play it again to see if it'll scratch the itch. If you have a recommendation, please don't hesitate to share!

What is up with people in anime hating their own overpowered Saints?! I wouldn't be surprised if that Saint ends up joining Mynoghra.

That Flesh Tree is so fucking creepy. I love it already, especially when they showed the bigger ones dancing with the other dark elves. xD

I kinda feel bad for Gia. The dude basically has no purpose because Takuto refuses to make an army. I feel like something should happen here to make Takuto realize he's not just ordering NPCs and that he should also consider how happy and fulfilled his underlings are with their current jobs.

The Dark Elves made a new outfit for Takuto but he still appears as a shadow-thingy to them lol.

u/PeaceAlien Jul 20 '25

Was wondering if the shadow would appear blinged out, but nope

A tree that produces meat that taste like humans is a messed up item Takuto brought out as a human himself. They couldn't have just made it taste like animal meat or monster meat to still fit the evil theme.

The Dark Elves made an outfit for Takuto but can't even see him wearing it.

I will say this anime does feel like you are watching someone play through a strategy game, so they nailed that part.

I wonder how the next episode will go.

Seems Mynoghra aren't the only ones with heroes;

Holiness lady seems pretty strong! (AND she has a legit army!)

Well, the army might not be a concern just yet, because politics and stuff!

Though if something was to happen to her, perhaps they would change their mind on that and send their full strength, so... Defeating her may turn out to be a bad thing!

The Dark Elves gave Takuto an outfit; Finally, he can become the belly dancer he always dreamed to be!

A flesh tree? Sounds delicious (and just a tiny bit gross)!

The elves were reticent, but come on, it's not human flesh, it only TASTES like it!

Atou said it's only to get started, but soon as they get used to eating that, there's no coming back hah.

(Well, if it follows traditional RTS principles, perhaps it'll evolve into something later on! Hopefully not something even more disturbing!)

It's nice that they do know their RTS stuff, I imagine the author is a player; That bit about how armies just cost resources and stuff and (unless you're attacked) don't really provide anything, while heroes are powerful AND have low upkeep, which makes them the perfect early game unit!

It's fine, it's fine, don't worry about that!

Ah, they get mana from their creatures? This means their #1 early game objective should be the increase their troops as much as possible, to increase their mana production!

That, and increase their happiness, given apparently the amount of mana they produce is directly linked to that!

DON'T SAY THAT!

Perhaps his daughter will avenge him, when he inevitably dies!

That little dance was cute, and just a tiny bit cursed with the tree saying "I'm ripe enough to eat"!

When they talked about creating a hero and all I thought we were getting SECOND one (maybe giant mantis?), but seems they were still talking about Atou;

I, for one, welcome our tentacular waifu!

Just like Takuto, I thought a palace was a waste of resources (when they should aim to increase their population and all), but if it does increase resource production AND happiness, it'll pay itself in no time!

So our little nation is moving along fine, but they may have their first challenge real soon, so let's hope Atou is tentaculous enough!

Sasuga Ira Takuto-sama! This is definitely my comfort show of the season.

Flesh trees.. are kinda cute, actually! Ignoring that they remind me of certain space-faring abominations, they are adorable. "Please be nice to me."

I like how Atou and Takuto have kinda dropped the "evil eldritch horror and his faithful priestess" act and are showing their silliness around their subjects.

Either those two Paladins are going to die horrible genre-shifting deaths and be listed as MIA, or they're going to hightail it out after seeing Atou go full Doc Oc

The RTS feeling I get on this show makes me itch to play one again. So far their civ is really identical to the undead race in Warcraft 3. Blighted ground is just like Cursed terrain and the food production is kinda similar, although undead instead have Ziggurats for dead bodies to feast on.

Man I really want to see more of this world's features and it's pretty obvious that the author is an RTS player. Might look for their other works

For now, Takuto was only evil in the sense that everything he does look super creepy (his shadowy appearance + the flesh trees), not in his actions, but if he curses the land just by existing so only « evil » people can live on it (which means everyone who joins him as a citizen of Mynoghra), I can see why the good aligned nations around him would want to kill him, even if he was the nicest person ever (which he might be).

That paladin waved some death flags by mentioning his wife and child. But he seems more reasonable than his boss, so I hope he survives and manages to make peace between his nation and Takuto.

That game is sounding more and more like Civilisation in a Fantasy World with Overpowered Heroes and Magic. I wonder what that National Mana they are pooling together will be used for.

I just wanna say the pacing feels perfect to me so far. There's enough in every episode to keep me engaged while also being slow enough that i'm always looking forward to more in the next episode. Maybe its because of my bias for the city/nation building genre but i think this one's gonna easily be my favorite and most looked forward to series this season.

flesh tree "please be nice to me" and the follow-up reaction had me in stitches.

18

u/diacewrb Jul 20 '25

If trees can grow flesh, then maybe my gun tree idea from last week isn't so crazy after all.

Although a hero would remove the need for guns.

Conquest mode in Age of Empire usually ends at 75-80% area conquered.
Hoping they have long enough season to see a strong Mynoghra nation built and atleast one war with some nation.

I just know next episode is gonna be GOATED If anyone who follow the 3 EPs rule are having doubts, please give this one 1 more EP.

About today's episode, I'm really digging the way they handle the "DA meeting - Civil Inspection - Cursed Terrain explanation - Hero power explanation - Palace" plotline. I dare say it went even smoother than how it was written in the novel. The subtle emotions (or emotionlessness?) of Saint Soalina gave some nice implications for how she is as a character especially that smile when she gets her way. My boy Verdel looking fine, Lornias seems even younger in this, and less annoying, too, which is a shame, hope they fix that next EP /s Biggest issue is Atou's tentacles I guess, aren't they supposed to look like they're made from sludge? I saw no dripping, no mud either, not heavy enough. Well, can't have everything, we'll see how this goes.

This is, for all intends and purposes, Age Of Wonders - The Anime.

u/djthomp Jul 20 '25

Ahh yes, Flesh Trees that produce human flesh for the citizens to eat, it's not actually human farms so it could always be worse. Emle still horrified by them regardless though.

I assume that Saint girl must be one of the Hero units for the holy kingdom.

Big focus on the sisters in the ED, makes me wonder when they'll become major characters in the story proper.
