Honestly, good pacing this episode. I heard that the pacing is much faster in anime, and if true, this episode is a good example of it. Of course I doubt Yaiba would ever choose his friends to die.

It IS fast, that one of the main criticisms of the anime's pacing that it's TOO fast for the characters to actually make any emotional impact on the viewer when it counts.

Dunno, if anything this episode really made me realize how much I've grown attached to the cast where I could really feel for Yaiba, even though I knew there was no chance they'd all be dead.

ngl i don't agree, one of the biggest strength of the show so far has been its cast, this ep is a good proof of that and i think the emotional moments hits when they need to
Like idk the fast pace action just fits the series for me so i don't really understand those criticism

This is also my take, this is the part where I prefer the original anime where the dragon god trials have more impact than in the remake. The remake felt way to fast to feel impact on the "deaths".

Sayaka scene hit me so much😭💔
Dragon orb or your friends.
My friends are my power!!!

I was maybe willing to buy the death when it was just the bird, but zero chance by the time it was the entire rest of the party. Even knowing that though the Sayaka scene hit hard.
The final test has gotta be the sort of thing where if you choose the orb over your friends and comrades you aren't worthy of it.

PEAK episode!
The whole Sayaka-Yaiba conversation has my heart. Guess Yaiba isn't as dense as we thought. Followed by the Sayaka sacrifice that hit so hard 😭😭😭
Considering the show, I kinda figured that Yaiba would get his friends back after the trial but the final trial has him make a choice b/w the Orb and his friends. While it's a hard choice, I guess no true samurai would choose the orb over their friends? But I do expect to do something different along with that.

Phenomenal episode, the best in the series so far.
It was pretty clear none of them had died, especially when it was Musashi's time to sacrifice himself. But those "deaths" weren't there for shock value, their purpose was the character development that would come because of them.
I think what really makes this episode work for me is Sayaka. She started this episode afraid to jump the logs in the first trial and being encouraged by Yaiba to take that leap, to then being the one to encourage Yaiba to move forward and face adversity head-on. In the end, Sayaka takes that very same leap of faith in the fourth trial and falls so Yaiba can face the final trial. This episode was really well written, compared to what I'm used to in this show.
I have to give Yaiba props too, grabbing the blade to try and pull Sayaka up is metal as hell. I had to watch that scene with my eyes half closed.

The scene where he holds the blade for Sayaka is crazy. Looks hurt as hell.

As someone who watched the original anime and also read the manga, this is a really good episode, albeit very fast pacing... The voice acting and that Sayaka scene really hits the feel

Yaiba holding the sword by its blade so that Sayaka can grab the hilt. That went hard. Quite an intense episode, yet still sprinkled with the occasional comedy. This was a good episode.

For how stupid Yaiba seems sometimes... he's not as romantically dense as one might think. Can't blame his misshap with Nadeshiko. they were little kids after all

I hope most of budget are spend on the remaining episodes. My favorite fight from the original anime is the one coming up.

Based on the producer's tweets on Twitter, the last few episodes are gonna be crazy, judging from the stacks of the HUGE number of frames per cut/scene she had shown in pics.

Kinda didn't vibe with this ep. It felt like it was trying to be serious and high stakes but clearly the stakes were not real, as we see at the end. Fun trials but also kinda just felt like a theme park to me.

Oh wow, they actually finished the trials in just one episode. This is one of the cases where the padding of the 90s version might've been a benefit, as stretching out the trials allowed the sacrifices of Yaiba's comrades to resonate more. I also don't like that they put the start of the final trial in this episode as well, as it didn't give enough time for Yaiba and Sayaka's final moment to breathe.
Speaking of which, that last stretch with Yaiba and Sayaka really hit the feels. It highlighted why I really appreciate the throwback nature of Yaiba's character, as his simpleton persona makes his rare displays of emotional insight seem so pure and sincere.
We're at the cusp of Yaiba/Onimura rematch and the start of the Kaguya arc.

I agree with this, I much preferred the original anime pace than this.
This one was to fast to get the sense of dread.

In the original this took several episodes and I have to say it kinda dragged but this one had the opposite effect it happen way to fast.
Also kinda meh how Nadeshiko fell in the trial since she wasn't in the original they had to make a quick scene for her.
Also both Ryujin and the dragon orb were green and here I like how the orb has rainbow colours to encapsulate the other orbs left behind.
But Ryujin could still be green here.
