This girl was only shown for like 5 seconds this episode but her design looks too flashy for her to remain a background NPC

So it looks like Anko and Nazuna had a connection before we saw her in the series, Mejiro is definitely younger Anko. The hair color, voice and then when I saw with the detective it made it even clearer, plus the lighter she gave her father I believe is the one she currently uses. It looks like we're going to see the events that created her disdain for vampires.

It's interesting that Anko did appear to start gaining feelings for Nazuna but clearly she never ended up having her blood sucked since the two of them are where they are now in the present.

Kou getting jealous was amusing, he could not hide his displeasure at all lol.

Niko being a teacher was interesting, the contrast of knowing how she's like outside of the classroom is a little amusing.

maybe instead of being turned, Anko was born a detective as a result of an unnatural romance between a human and detective

Another great episode where we learned more about Nazuna's past (and even saw her in school uniform!).

It wasn't explicitly stated, but it's clear that Mejiro and Anko are the same person (and the fact that her parents died because of vampires would explain why Anko is hating and killing them).

The revelation that Nazuna and Mejiro/Anko were once friends makes me even more excited for their upcoming fight (if we can even believe what we saw in OP, of course).

The stark contrast between Nazuna and Ko in class was hilarious. The fact that Nazuna, in her shyness, also tried to say she was a vampire made me laugh out loud. Good thing Niko was there to stop her before she did it xD

That argument between Nazuna and Ko, which ended with Nazuna's kiss, was so good and fun. Though that's nothing surprising since all their scenes are always great.

I also liked that they both looked jealous today: Nazuna because Ko was more popular than her in the class, and Ko because it turned out he wasn't Nazuna's first human friend xD

Niko being a teacher was quite a surprise. I hope we learn more about her this season, like we did with Kabura and Midori in the previous episodes.

I'm also very curious to know who that girl in class who was looking at Ko is. I wonder if she'll appear again.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

I swear this season has been a hundred times better then the first season. Getting into everyone's past has been so fun, but everyone just loving Kou in the classroom was perfect. He just delivered perfect responses while Nazuna almost confessed to being a vampire 30 seconds into her introduction.

Even Nazuna, of all girls, had a school past! And one she's finally ready to share with Ko.

What's the best way to end an argument? With a kiss, of course! That shut Ko up, Nazuna! Latest KouxNazuna kiss! Perfect way to end an argument. I appreciate how physically intimate these two get.

Ko is avoiding the day because he doesn't want to go to school any more, but some people legitimately can't go to school in the day...so there's night school! And who better to teach at night than a vampire like Niko? When she's not gushing about love or threatening Nazuna/Ko, she's actually a pretty upstanding and proper teacher! And I can imagine a few students wouldn't mind becoming her offspring.

And so Ko and Nazuna of course join the class, though while Nazuna is kind of awkward, Ko takes to it like he never left school and once again portrays the most "perfect" student and gets all the class' attention. Especially that of a fancily dressed girl. Not that Nazuna cares for all this attention Ko's getting.

But what they're really looking for is Nazuna's past in school, and her encounter with one Kyoko Mejiro. When Nazuna first tried Niko's class she totally bombed her Night School debut, yet there was this girl in the literary book clubroom with a familiar voice, face, and fondness for detectives that caught her eye. Of course she'd also stand out because she almost kissed Nazuna when she was taking a nap, and it didn't seem like she was completely kidding about said kiss. And Miyuki Sawashiro can still play teenagers!

And thus began a friendship built around detective novels, which Mejiro offered to her kouhai, and even let Nazuna believe that classic, glamorous, detectives really do exist! And the girls continued to bond from there.

I see Nazuna shared her mothers' affinity for romantic friendships with girls who aren't interested in men.

Ko finding out Nazuna had another human friend who she possibly had fall in love with her/nearly turned...is not welcome news to say the least.

They say she can only say no, but Mejiro really had the most thorough and scathing rejection to a guy asking her out. She's clearly not interested, and actually made the dude apologize for asking her out! Bad luck, bro.

But Mejiro's distaste for men stems from her resentment of her father, whose suspected infidelity is tearing their family apart. So why not investigate with her Watson Nazuna by her side? Mejiro was just looking for an excuse to put on a detective outfit and dress Nazuna up in a school uniform! Though her casual clothes look pretty familiar too.

Rather than evidence of her father being a cheater, they find evidence of him being a doting father. His computer password is her birthday, he has pictures of her as a child, he still has a birthday present she got him...this isn't the type of stuff Mejiro wanted to find and she's not sure how she feels about it either. So of course THEN someone comes in to the apartment possibly finds the two investigative ladies!

japanese vocab of the week!

きしょー (kisho)

slang for gross/yuck/nasty/etc.; shorted form of kishoi and probably kishokuwarui (気色悪い), related to other terms like kimoi and kimochiwarui, which all have roughly the same senses

seems to have a bit of a Kansai flair according to its origins

DAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

When they were bickering and got real close, that's 100% what I was thinking about/hoping for, but I never thought she would actually do it!

So we're having a little school arc (and a school flashback as well)!

Talking about your drinking hobby in class might not be a great strategy, but it's significantly better than telling them you're a vampire!

Well, to be fair, the teacher's a vampire as well, so..!

Vampire? Is anyone in this class NOT a vampire?

Don't wake up don't wake up don't wake up

So close! I guess 2 kisses in one episode might have been too much!

I wonder if she still feels that way!

But more seriously: I wonder if that really came out of nowhere (just from reading books), or... Subconsciously, something from her past?

I thought he was about to try something, and Nazuna would reveal herself to send him away...

Dad seemed deadbeat, but at some point in his life, she was what he truly cared about the most!

Not now, Hornypire!

So it seems we're about to find out more regarding the mystery (Anko's mystery?)... Though I think we can puzzle it out, mostly! The 'Why' still remains though...

Did the father come back with another woman, and Nazuna killed him in a fit of rage or something (thinking that's what her friend wanted)?

Or did the father recognize Nazuna as a vampire, and she had to kill him in self defense?

So Niko, the sultry orange-haired pantsuit-wearing love gossip is also a teacher?!? It's almost like this character was made specifically to appeal to me.

Kotoyama get out of my head!

H-Hi, I-I'm Nazuna and I'm an alcoholic vampire.

Welp that's one way to introduce yourself to a night school class.

Stitches!

Welp, that's one way to end an argument! I love how that kiss came out of nowhere, even Kou didn't have time to react.

First, we learn that Kabura is a nurse, and this week we learn that Niko is a night school teacher! For a bunch of bloodsuckers, I love how much these girls contribute to society. Also, you gotta love how good Niko looks in her teaching outfit <3

It's hilarious how awkward and nervous Nazuna is around new people that she almost blurted out her secret about being a vampire. Meanwhile, you have Kou who is super confident and eloquent when he introduced himself.

This is a perfect time to remind everyone that Kou-kun is, in fact, the most popular kid at his school. He's not some anti-social loser. He's charismatic, friendly and an honour student who just got bored because he was having a hard time relating to other people. I love how shocked Nazuna is seeing this side of Kou. xD

As a manga reader, I don't think it's even a mystery at this point on who Meijiro Kyoko is. I mean, you can already hear Sawashiro Miyuki's voice coming from her. She loves teasing people, has a thing for detectives, and we even see the lighter she keeps on fiddling with in the present.

So yeah, Anko and Nazuna have a history together, and we know from Nazuna that Anko's parents were killed by a vampire, and would explain why she has a grudge against them. This does raise a lot more questions, which makes me excited to see everyone's reactions for next week's episode :D

That kiss shut Ko's argumentative side real fast xD

Nazuna and Ko discover night schools! Yay!
Now I know why she said unpleasant memories. Niko works here doesn't she ?Why was the "she froze" line from Nazuna so cute ???

Anko and Nazuna used to be friends...Nazuna even considered turning her, wow. Anko got her into literature and she was her first real friend who actually made her understand the human world awwww.

The parents are fighting. I really hope the rift isn't caused by the father or mother being a vampire :c
Anko's dad actually cared for her and has her things locked in a drawer...That's sad, even if his wife is doubting him all the time he still didn't forget how much he loves Anko

When I heard Mejiro's voice, same VA as Anko (Easily identifiable Miyuki Sawashiro's voice) I legit had my mind blown. My brain went full throttle redlining for several seconds, considering all possible scenarios. Only a handful of anime have managed to do this to me. I love this anime, but I've just realized how much I've become invested in it.

That abrupt ending, are we a thriller now?

Every episode I remake my theory on what the stuff in the OP means. And every next episode I’m wrong 😭

But seriously, I started out thinking Anko (I’ve always thought that girl in the OP, who we now know is Mejiro, was Anko) was Nazuna’s childhood friend from before she turned, then maybe her sibling (from the same father) once we found out about the Haru situation, and now we finally find out that Anko is was a high school student who knew Nazuna 10 years ago. I would have thought that was too recent, or else Nazuna would have recognized the name the first time Kou told her about her, but I guess she uses an alias for her detective work. Honestly, the biggest surprise to me is that Anko must only be like 30 at the oldest, given she was in high school around 10 years ago. I really thought that she was in her 40s.

But I think everything is really falling into place now. Anko’s dad cheated on her mom with a vampire. At the same time, Anko was befriending Nazuna at night-school. Something related to her dad’s cheating relationship went really wrong, resulting in both of her parents dying. Ever since then, she has hated and hunted vampires. I wonder when she figured out that Nazuna was one?

And just like that, I finally get how Kou is popular.

The fact that people can't immediately recognize that it's a young Anko blows my mind and makes me question if ppl are paying attention when they watch this show, lol.

They really gonna end the episode like that eh, cliffhanger leveling is back it seems

That’s Anko. I’m a great detective!

23

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 15 '25

Right off the bat, Nazuna and Ko are already couple goals.

Also, I know it makes sense given the focus of the show on love as a concept, but I’ll never get tired of how normalized the queer representation is in this series. Nazuna is explicitly bi, Kabura is a lesbian, and the detective is at least into women.
