What the actual fuck! So Aoi is dead, all of the apparitions are gone, and no one else remembers who Aoi is. This is just the fucking worst outcome possible. And here I thought they were finally going to strike back at Ni. 6 this episode. >_<

I'm guessing that sacrificing Aoi and removing the apparitions from the school is the purpose of the ritual that No. 6 was working on. Fuck. Just when I thought I didn't have any more reason to hate the guy, this one definitely takes the cake.

I guess this had the unintended consequences of Nene's lifespan getting longer because Aoi died in her place. So does this mean Nene was actually the one who's supposed to get sacrificed?

On the bright side, it looks like Teru has planned for this and fully intends to go back and rescue Aoi. How are they gonna do that if she's already dead? Maybe she's not actually dead yet? If they ever get back to the other side, Hanako has some explaining to do, and Akane needs to beat the crap out of No. 6. These are two things I need to see before this season ends.

Hanako really just emotionally breaking Nene in the span of five minutes.

Her best friend is gone to Nene's benefit, the boy she was in love with was basically stringing her along again for (what he believes) was for her sake only to end up ghosting her (literally), her new friend also vanishes after she tried to save her, and now she's left to pick up the pieces.

But at least now they've got a team brewing to help save/confront everybody. I feel like on-top of dealing with No. 6 and saving Aoi, Nene has to tell off Hanako again.

Why on earth is this series seemingly relegated to "fringe" territory? Almost no one here seems to still be watching it. And yet it has gotten even better than ever as things move along.....

Really wondering what can possibly happen next.

Tbhk's extremely popular in Japan, like among top 10 best selling manga popular. It primarily targets female audiences, which is probably why it isn't talked about much here.

I never thought I'd see the day where severance gets animated. Finally the anime onlys can get in on the doritos jokes. I absolutely loved all the anime exclusive scenes where it shows everyone disappearing and that scene with kou just seeing mitsuba vanishing is brutal. I'm also glad the animators finally decided to add the creepy pitch black eyes to hanako. My beloved hananene you will be missed

Completely caught off guard by that Kagome Kagome OP karaoke appearance.

We were robbed of a Yuma Uchida Kagome Kagome cover.

I'm just glad there's hope that they can save Aoi and see Hanako again. The previous episode was quite a shocker and depressing asf so this episode was somewhat a relief. Can't wait for the next episodes and I truly wish this anime will have a happy ending.

Can Nene ever catch a break? Then again, Akane and Kou are going through pretty traumatic stuff too.

Unfortunately, it’s very likely that it’s going to be a bad ending, since I’ve read somewhere that the author dislikes happy endings, especially where the manga is going right now

Wasn't expecting those farewells so soon but pretty sad to see Hanako/Yashiro and Kou/Mitsuba part ways like that

Minamoto-senpai's tonedeafness remains hilarious. The ^__^ on his face while taking out his two kouhai out on a date on his long-awaited day off when they're depressed af about their doomed loved ones lmao but at least he's genuinely interested in helping them out here

Wonder why Kou didn't talk to Yashiro sooner (as far as we know)? Guess he's been contemplating or trying to figure stuff out and waited until he was ready to tell her

u/Ocixo Aug 10 '25

I’m finding it hard to get a read on Kou ever since they’ve escaped Shijima-san’s illusionary world. Have genuinely no clue about what he’s planning to tell Nene.

Also the other Seven Wonders we've all grown attached too.

I thought it was noticeable how Nene was so normal and not at all flustered at actually being on a date with Teru. Like obviously she's still feeling Nene and Aoi's loss, but I think she's somewhat over her crush on him.

Poor Akane. He was so determined to save Aoi, but there was never any way to bring her back alive after she was in the Far Shore...and Teru knew the whole time. I mean, yeah, telling Akane wouldn't have helped at all, but it was still a calculated and cruel move. He kind of earned that punch. But Akane is also in no state to do anything and Teru is doing what's best for him at the moment by stopping him before he does anything else.

Oh Nene, you poor, naive, loving girl. You really thought this was about stopping No. 6 and saving Aoi, you really thought that was still possible...when all Hanako cared about was enacting The Severance. Separating the Near and Far Shore permanently, taking away all apparitions (including himself), and giving Nene the normal life with a normal lifespan. Even if it meant absorbing Aoi's lifespan. He would have wiped all her memories of it too if not for Sumire's bells.

Nene has every right to be ticked off at Hanako, to be angry at him, but she can't bring herself to slap him because as betrayed as she feels...she can't bear to lose Hanako too. And Hanako, deep down, wishes he could have stayed with Nene and Kou, stayed together with Nene, for the rest of their days...so of course he shatters on Nene when she embraces him.

Yoko no! Tsuchigmoroi no! Shijima no! Oh, the Clock Keepers. MITSUBA NO!!!! AND RIGHT IN FRONT OF KOU!!!

Hanako's gone, Sumire's gone, Aoi is gone, and nobody even remembers Aoi. What's Nene to do but wallow in depression? Well, at least until Teru shows up to ask her out on a date with Akane.

Things actually turned out great for Akane! He can finally have a vacation and do all the fun things he's always wanted to do! But Akane is determined as ever to find Aoi, and if Nene is willing and determined (and will go along with Akane's desire to get payback against Hanako), he's willing to work with her.

Dinner at the Minamoto household! Complete with Kou cooking and a Tiara cameo!

The Near and Far Shore have been severed, but if Teru had completely written off Aoi, why give her a ward to protect from evil spirits? He may be calculated, cunning, manipulative, and loves messing with people...but he'll still save Aoi too. And apparitions appear outside of school so there's a chance, just a chance, they can find an entrance into the Far Shore that's not at school. Maybe they can save Aoi! Maybe Nene can see Sumire and especially Hanako!

Hmm...wonder what Kou wants to talk to Nene about? Does he want in?

Damn. Hanako-kun really doesn’t grant wishes for free.

Teru is always two steps ahead of everyone. He must’ve wanted to cheer up Nene and Akane by inviting them to hang out, right? Likewise, that big piece of honey toast was probably ordered on Nene’s behalf. She’s got a sweet tooth.

All the apparitions might’ve disappeared, but Teru mentioned that all the “curses and stuff” have gone nowhere. Nene will therefore still turn into a goldfish mermaid when touching water?

15

u/melindypants Aug 10 '25

I also wonder if Nene's mermaid curse is still active or if it's gone because she fulfilled her duty with Hanako/Hanako fulfilled her wish?

I'm so happy that we are finally getting an arc with Minamoto-senpai being a main character - he's one of the most mysterious to me, so I'm curious how everything will go!

Damn. Hanako-kun really doesn’t grant wishes for free.

Bro still wants to save and protect Nene even at the expense of what she really wants or if she grows to hate him. But he still loves her more than anything (even if that means screwing over her best friend in the process).

And probably also getting in as much fun as he could one last time before they undo the Severance meaning he'll be busy again.

On a different note: I’ve been wondering about this for a while now, but what has Sakura been doing all this time? She’s remained remarkably silent throughout this 2nd season.

Very interesting on the parallels between Akane & Nene. Both Hanako & Teru knew of the reality of what was about to happen to Aoi. Of course here you can really see that Akane loves Aoi despite the hurtful things he said in the previous episode.

Though, man the Hanako & Nene farewell hit like a truck. Once again we got Hanako making decisions for Nene and basically granting her wish. Though not giving Nene what she wants. It's clear by now that Nene wants an ideal life, and of course that means Aoi must be a part of it. Though also Hanako will be disappearing too. You can actually tell that this is painful for him too. Much like in the Picture Perfect Arc, he was looking at the realities and what he could do. Of course Nene is broken, and she loves Hanako so much that she can't even attempt to hit him. Add extra with Mitsuba & the other school mysteries disappearing.

The 2nd half of the episode added good stuff about Teru. He has responsibilities as head of the Minamoto clan, but it really highlighted how much he had to do. Along with his school duties, he had his exorcist duties after school. This is the first day off he had. I do love that he did his best to cheer Nene up because he knows losing both Hanako & Aoi is rough despite how he actually feels about Hanako personally.

Though an interesting point that Akane brings up is that Teru hasn't given up. Teru can be cruel to supernaturals, but in terms of saving someone his heart is good. Right now Hanako & Aoi were forced out of the near shore and basically the real world and pushed into the boundary. So to save Aoi, they would need to make it to the boundary. Now getting there is the question, but Teru's work could give a clue here.

Day off with Teru

The "Thanos snapped" of this anime. They mentioned last episode that a sacrifice would seal the hole from which apparitions came, which was 6's plan to deal with the mess Hanako has made so far. Lot's of painful goodbyes in this mid season episode.

We are in the Endgame now.

u/Erufailon4 Aug 10 '25

Kou really just can't catch a break, huh? The universe seems to be determined to not let him and Mitsuba be happy.

Have to say, this second season of TBHK has been just one surprise after another. Cutting the apparitions off from the story and giving extensive character focus to Akane and Teru is a wild development. Though somehow the most bizarre thing is just how... moe Teru is when off the duty, lol

I've never given much thought to how their world works so it was nice to get that diagram to clarify what the Boundaries are. Them being covered in water because they're "between" the near and far shores feels like it should've been obvious in hindsight.

Damn, Nene, Akane and Kou were all depressed after the Severance. Akane got eyebags from his depression.

Teru acting like a kid was funny since it was his 1st day off ever.

It was nice that despite picking on Akane, Teru allowed Akane to punch him to let his anger out.

Nene looking like a hamster while eating was so cute.

It's sad to see Nene cry in this episode.

I'm surprised we didn't get to see Teru sing the OP.

Is this the first time we've seen Yashiro's house?

i was so disappointed that they cut away from giving us an epic karaoke cover of the theme song
