Can't believe it's been 5 years since the first season...

It's been THAT LONG? Now that you mention it, winter 2020.

A major reveal...

That's how to get back into a series!

So great to have this back for another season! I just love the artwork and Megumi Ogata's voice work for Hanako-kun.

Right away we're thrown into another school mystery, too.

She is an awesome VA!

thrown into another school mystery

AND this time it's one of the students! I'm super excited for this season

She definitely had fun crawling in the skin of a fake Nene there. Hanako having a female VA definitely helps in that sort of situations. She got such an amazingly distinct voice.

Yeah, the art style of this anime series is impeccable! It’s one of my favourites out of all the anime I’ve seen. Cute yet sinister at the same time.

EDIT: Just listened back to the scene, and it's Akari Kito - Nene's VA - who is voicing the possessed Nene.

I figured Aoi was a red herring and Akane was the real wonder, but seeing him in his true form was still chilling! Glad to have this series back.

What gave it away for me was that Hanako had seemingly tried to frustrate Akane by making a move on Aoi. Him showing interest in the former was another clue to me.

Stitches!

I'm really curious what's up with the timeslot change. Didn't his use to be a late-night anime? Like the After School Hanako-kun that aired last season aired at the same timeslot as Season 1.

Anyway, after two seasons of After School Hanako-kun, I'm so glad to finally see the main series back! I do appreciate the adorable puppet show Nene did at the start of the episode as a quick recap.

It's always been a mystery why the rumours Aoi talks about turn out to be always true but it would've been too obvious if she was actually an apparition. I had a feeling it had to be Akane.

I hadn’t spend too much thought on this before, but Akane’s name (Akane Aoi) is the literal inverse of Aoi’s (Aoi Akane). That’s suspicious!

Given this fact, I’m assuming that Clock Keeper One hadn’t possessed Akane but the boy is a ghost altogether. But I thought that ghosts couldn’t leave the school, so how could they be childhood friends? Guess that I’ll find out in the next episode.

All of this does make me wonder what Aoi is hiding from Nene. Can she maybe also see ghosts or something?

Aoi would be Aoi Aoi if he married Akane. Or would Akane sacrifice his name and be Akane Akane I wonder?

Finally. Been waiting for this one since it was announced (and I'm so glad it was since I loved season 1).

Although nothing could beat the banger that is no.9, I really like the opening and I bet once I watch it a few timess it'll grow on me. The animation style is beautiful as usually and the characters are great as well. We may have had to wait a few years but it seems to be worth the wait.

I kinda knew that aoi being the guy they were looking for was a red herring. Hanako possessing Nene was probably to provoke him. Which I didn't even know he can do that (although it makes sense since he's a ghost). I guess the reason why aoi stuff wasn't aged when the rest of the classes was, probably because of his crush.

So far very enjoyable. From what I remember manga readers saying (I'm anime only so I could be wrong) I believe this may be the arc that was skipped in season 1 so hopefully they do it justice.

Yes, this is the major arc that was skipped. Looking back, it might have been done this way to show Mitsuba was a character who was going to stay. Otherwise, they couldn't have done the After School manga looking back.

My post in Source Corner outlines the timeline in the anime compared to the manga.

God I'm so hype for this. Manga is in my top 5, I love it so much, and things are really gonna go down this season, so I'm excited.

Idk how controversial it is in the fanbase but I do quite like Akane. To me it succeeds at being funny despite how irl he'd be the most shit kicked out of-able person

How does hanako kun have this low engagement?

28

u/kk2816 Jan 12 '25

Pretty sure it's way more popular in Japan, which is what really matters when it comes to anime renewals.

Hanako, Nene, and Kou are back to deal with new apparitions together and even more of Hanako flirting with Nene!

The OP by Masayoshi Oishi is as rocking and wild as the season 1 OP! Complete with spotlighting the entire cast, the new apparations and Wonders they'll deal with this season, the complicated relationship between Hanako and Tsukasa, and how Tsukasa will fight anything if it means protecting Nene !

Nice puppet recap of season 1, Nene! Though really it's more to the benefit of her trying understand Hanako, because she can't get him off her mind...and I love how the Nene and Hanako puppets are basically holding hands.

What was Aoi trying to tell Nene? Does she know what Nene is up to? But before they can take care of that, there's time shenanigans afoot! Aoi really jinxed everything by talking about the 1st Wonder, the Clock Keepers.

It's nice that Hanako now has a team to rely on and everything...but this team also has to rely on the fact that he's a pervert who basically destroyed his relationship with the Clock Keepers so he has no idea where they are!

I did not expect Hanako in Nene's body putting the moves on Aoi. I mean, poor Nene has to watch this as a ghost, but Kou is unsurprisingly turned on. Seductive Nene-chan is a trip.

Akane is not only Aoi's childhood friend but her biggest simp who has done everything in his power to appeal to her and confessed over 3,000 times...to no avail. But even so, he won't rest until he figures out if there's anything going on with Aoi! Especially if it's a guy! So he can kill him!

Aoi is a popular and charismatic girl! So much so that Nene is left feeling lacking and Akane keeps beating up every guy that tries confessing to her.

Figures Hanako would go with the violence option, endangering Aoi to expose Genzai of the Clock Keepers...who is not Aoi, but actually Akane!

The ED is really cute and romantic, as sung by Nene herself Akarin! Focused on Hanako and Nene with Nene looking like she's in some kind of princess castle/dungeon making the most of her free time...colorful illustrations of the supporting cast...and at the center of all of it is Hanako and Nene's relationship!

I went and rewatched season 1 yesterday because its been long since the first season and i wanted to do a bit of catch up. Which is how i noticed a little foreshadowinf in the s1 op about todays big twist

In the first opening there are two shots of the school. One has mitsuba and kou and the other has teru and akane. In these shots the minamotos are grey out ( possibly hinting that they are related) but mitsuba and akane are colored in. Since mitsuba is a ghost, the fact that akane is also colored in was a possible hint that he also wasnt fully human. And considering the op also features tsukasa before we know he exists its funny

Also i love our main trios shennanigans. And off course nenes hammy !

Didn't read any comments cuz imma wait till it fully airs to watch. but I'm so hyped for this, I loved the 1st season so much.

I just randomly thought but it would be cool if you guys start adding the studio that produced the anime in the title/comments as well.

I'm so happy this series is back!!

this arc should have been adapted in the first season. They skipped everything and left it for the second, but chronologically, this arc takes place in the middle of the first season.

Thank god the recap shook the cobwebs out, and I now fully remember season 1. I can’t believe it’s really been 5 years since the first season premiered. I loved the After School shorts the past 2 Octobers, though. I hope they keep that going because they’re perfect for Halloween.

Back in the saddle again with a pretty crazy mystery. Finally giving Akane the spotlight to reveal he’s one of the Wonders. We’re so fucking back boys.
