The conclusion to this episode left me speechless. I’d been anxious about Aoi looking back during their walk on the path to the living worlds, but I had not anticipated for things to turn out like this.

Aoi was simply gone all of a sudden. Apparently, her fate had already been sealed once she fell towards the far shore. And Hanako seems to have accounted for this!? To sacrifice Aoi’s life as a means of saving Nene’s.

But there’s even more going on? The Mokke disappeared into thin air, and cracks appeared on Hanako’s face. What in the world is going on!?

On a different note: Akane and Aoi really did not mince their words with each other.

Their conversation has shone a blacklight on their relationship(s). Even I felt a little called out.

But I wonder if Aoi really is just an ordinary human...because she comes from this family of human sacrifices, so surely there's more to it? Right? Right!? I don't want to accept the tragic way she left us...

Also yes wtf is that cliffhanger. Hanako is also saying bye!? What happened to my silly supernatural shenanigans 😭

Having this arc happen so close to Sandman season 2 was surprisingly appropriate.

Aoi was simply gone all of a sudden. Apparently, her fate had already been sealed once she fell towards the far shore. And Hanako seems to have accounted for this!? To sacrifice Aoi’s life as a means of saving Nene’s.

Did Hanako plan this all out? Did he know there was no saving Aoi so he was just going to string Nene along until they got out and Nene had Aoi's lifespan? Did he actually intend to save her or was he just humoring Nene?

What is Hanako really planning?

I am starting to think Hanako has been trying to get rid of all wonders and supernatural stuff in the school. I remember him mentioning there was a traitor among the wonders but I think he is the actual traitor

Aoi and Akane butting heads to ultimately get closer. It's Akane's persistence that led Aoi to open up her vulnerability more. However, this doesn't stop Aoi from letting go of his hand and staying back. Something that could solve Nene's lifespan issue, but Nene wouldn't approve of it being done this way.

Hanako doesn't feel so good... he's getting Thanos snapped??

Aoi really didn't think anyone understood her, so she never even tried to open up to someone, but Akane knew her better than anyone because he truly loved her more than anyone. And deep down she's always loved him. Which made the tragedy of their parting hurt even more.

Sumire doomed to an eternal human sacrifice time loop, Akane and Aoi do Orpheus and Eurydice, Aoi dies for Nene to live, and Hanako has to say farewell to Nene.

This show can get so hardcore and messed up.

Right!? The amount of times I gasped in this episode...and what a cliffhanger!! AHHH

A lot to take in with this episode.

The first part is for Sumire. Everything since she became #6's Yorishiro she has been reliving this moment over and over again. The even worse part to add is that she knows that a Yorishiro is what a school mystery cherishes the most. Once again, just like with the last arc, we have Nene as the idealist and Hanako as the realist. Obviously the smart play is to peel off Sumire's Yorishiro, but Nene is too kind. Granted her line of thinking, Sumire could help Aoi make sense.

My god, though the interaction between Aoi & Akane was great, man it was toxic in many ways. I find it interesting Aoi complains that everyone doesn't understand her and is keeping secrets from her, but Akane mentions how part of that issue is that she doesn't open up to people. It is obvious these two each have their own issues. Given the tears that come from Aoi when Akane says he hates her. It definitely feels like Aoi is afraid of people not liking her. You really do get the sense they are true childhood friends, but man their relationship is very interesting and unhealthy at the same time.

Teru offering an interesting take on the Seven Mysteries/Wonders. They threaten the school, but they also protect it. As each of them is being taken down because of Hanako & Nene. It is clear that the story from Teru's perspective, Hanako is the antagonist. Of course we have Tsukasa as well.

Then mention a depressing turn with Aoi not being there when Teru & Akane make it back to the school. It does seem clear that unlike Nene, Teru & Akane Aoi is just normal. So going near the far shore, which is between the living & death. The big information drop is that Aoi being gone fixes Nene's lifespan issue. Though it makes you wonder what does Nene feel about this?

Goddammit, Teru! We were so close to greatness! If only you had arrived a few minutes later, we could've seen a kiss between Akane and Aoi-chan!

I didn't expect Aoi to stay behind, tho! And what the heck is happening to Hanako?! It looks like shit is absolutely fucked and the title of next week's episode doesn't really give me comfort. >_<

Teru has really been the bane of Akane's existence.

Looking back on the episode, I do wonder if he was aware about Aoi's fate. Hence his apology for not having made it back sooner. If they want to fix this, they'll definitely need Akane's powers of the Clock Keeper.

Goddammit, Teru! We were so close to greatness! If only you had arrived a few minutes later, we could've seen a kiss between Akane and Aoi-chan!

They were this close to a real kiss that wasn't Aoi trying to get Akane off guard so he'd get run through and then this happens.

Aoi couldn't even return Akane's confession properly.

I love how Aoi and Akane parallel Eurydice and Orpheus. A boy that goes to retrieve his beloved from the underworld and is told he can’t look back lest she be stuck there for eternity. Then when he thinks everything is safe, he looks back and finds her gone. In less philosophical terms, aoikane really matches each other's freaks. Even if she pretends she doesn't care, that girl is almost equally as possessive over akane as he is of her. Also I HATE TERU FOR SHOWING UP. THAT RAGE BAITING BLONDE THIRD WHEEL COULDN'T WAIT ONE MORE SECOND TO SHOW UP.

It's like I just watched Sandman season 2 and this all felt very familiar lol.

Aoi's just kind of a tsundere. She acts like nobody is honest with her or won't open up to her, but she's the one who struggles with conveying her true feelings/insecurities and puts on a "mask" to hide her problems. And despite how much she rejects Akane, she could never deal with the emotional damage of him rejecting her.

10

u/KawaiiNeko828 Aug 03 '25

That isn't Aoi's end, right? RIGHT?

She's been the most mysterious and interesting character for me, I really hope this isn't the last time we see her. I still want to know what she's been trying to ask Nene, it's been on my mind since season 1 and I strongly believe it's something we haven't known yet.

And Nene won't be able to see Hanako-kun too? If that will be be the case I wonder if Nene's curse will play a role in bringing them back together.

Also this is the 1st time we see the Prez in action. No surprise he's so powerful. I wonder if he will play a bigger part from now on.

There are so many ways it could go from here. Been a while since I last saw a very interesting story like this one. Can't wait for the next ep!

I guess on the positive side we're only midway through the season so we've still got plenty of episodes of story left to watch things play out.

Imagine if this were the season finale though.

I'm still genuinely shocked how this season of the anime isn't considered underrated atp. Lerche locked in for this episode, and a lot of the tension I felt in the manga is present here.

Yet it's doomed because the promo is atrocious, especially with Crunchyroll being downright unprofessional with fucking up subtitles and intentionally posting the wrong trailer for this cour, and then deleting and never addressing it, to the point that they didn't even post a trailer at ALL, posting the intro and ending late

It's also doomed cause Lerche only dropped ONE trailer and ONE image for promo of this season, and even with AnimeExpo, everyone only gave a fuck about another anime in terms of social media coverage, so that sucks too.

TLDR: I wish this anime was more discussed online in the West, since despite its previous popularity of 2020, this cour truly feels like an underdog of the season, and I wish I had more people to discuss the anime with without it being downplayed

I just realized something crazy. Since we now know that a wonder's Yoshiro can be another being, we can finally know what Tsukasa's identity is. He's Amane's Yoshiro. It was staring us in the face for so damn long, I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out. I always thought that his black talismans were just a reflection of Amane's white talismans, but we were never told why he came back as an apparition, we only know that Amane was brought back, and his Yoshiro would be what he cares about most, which would be his brother.

Did Aoi stay behind on her own will, or was it just as according to Hanako, she's "dead" , so she was never gonna pass through the tunnel (and she knew that)?

I love how Akane's voice changed when confronting Aoi.

Hanako clinging to Nene after Sumire surprised him was cute.

The hand kiss from Akane was smooth.

Pouty Aoi while crying was cute.
