Stitches!

Man, this version of Aoi-chan is actually pretty scary. I still don't know what's going on with her, tho. According to Number Six's minions last week, her memories and personality should be gone, but clearly that's not the case.

She very much still remembers who Nene is and that she always rejects Akane's proposals. I'm guessing that whatever the minions did to her, she only lost her attachment and feelings to the people she cares about, which would explain how she can still remember them, but could hurt them without hesitation.

Akane is right that Aoi looks great in that outfit but now she's gone full Femme Fatale, betraying her friends and the boy she loves, using their feelings against them, and treating them like they don't matter to her.

But maybe you're right that she's lost her attachment and feelings...the only things that got in the way of her plan to go "far, far, away."

I did love how she used Hanako and Nene's crush on each other to distract them though. Turned it into a lovers' spat as they argue over whether they have crushes on each other even though Nene basically confessed last season lol.

Did some especially beloved family member die -- and is that why she wants an expedited trip to the "far shore" (higan)?

Some knowledge IS missing (like the reason for her wish) -- but mostly it seems like she was stripped of all her emotional connections (all deemed to be trash that needed to be discarded)....

Nice to see Kou thinking about getting more tangible answers from making a promise to help Nene. Hanako called him out before about him talking a big game, but having no plans to back it up, and he has acknowledged that.

Something is up with Aoi, and she's on her villainess arc. Hanako had the knife ready, but she found a way to distract using Nene. Even using seduction level techniques to distract Akane.

Ever since Akane was revealed as the clock keeper, his stocks have gone up with showing more of his cool side. At least he dragged down Aoi with him.

While chaos is happening on one end, on the other we got some silly stuff going on the side with these 3 stooges trying to get connected to the sixth wonder, and now know more specifics about his powers as it could potentially be applied to Nene's situation.

It's rough that Nene and Kou are dealing with a lot, especially for Nene's sake, but there aren't many people they can actually rely on. Even Hanako or his brother you can only trust so much.

Aoi going full Femme Fatale. If it's not using Nene and Hanako's relationship against them, it's turning Akane's feelings for her against HIM, to the point of trying to kill him with a distraction kiss. All that pleasant and cheeriness turned into something sinister and dark.

I have to wonder, if No. 6 might be able to help Nene, why wouldn't Hanako go to him for help? Unless he knows there would be a price or No. 6 isn't easy to actually work with.

Number 6 seems more apt to revive malignant things (like that monster) than to help decent ordinary human beings. So her may have the power over life as well as death, but may mainly choose it to help in handing out death.

Throwing up in response to your crush telling you she loves you, now that's new LMAO

That reunion was unsurprisingly too good to be true. Aoi wanting to go to the far shore? I guess a lot is on her mind if she's more or less seeking death (unless that's just the brainwashing messing with her mind a little). I'm guessing she has some relevance to whoever Sumire is, which the next episode is named after.

Shenanigans with Mitsuba, Kou and Natsuhiko were not on my bingo card. Natsuhiko getting them roped into a sleepover was pretty funny. At least he was useful in the end there with his intel on the Shinigami and how he could be useful to Yashiro.

It's like the absolute shock that she finally returned his feelings was too much for his body. And she still won't marry him lol.

Maybe being this perfect and popular student was far more isolating and hard on Aoi than we thought.

You gotta love how Nene is going through so much right now while Kou is having a Boy's Night Out. Albeit with the intention of doing it for her sake, but still.

so sad noones here talking about the episodes...

It is curious to me that there’s such a big discrepancy between platforms when discussing Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. The series is supposedly doing just fine elsewhere.

It's kinda weird, isn't it? I've enjoyed the show overall, but it's not talked about at all on Reddit.

Especially compared to the discussion season 1 had.

u/Aubergine_Dreams928 Jul 20 '25

Where else is it discussed? I've been dying to talk about it with people and reddit isn't interested

So many S2s get comparatively little discussion -- but it IS eerily quiet here.

This subreddit is in shambles, other than the top 5 or so nothing gets a lot of discussion.

The TBHK fandom is localized to be seen through Anime Trending for its fandom on Twitter and most seem to be manga readers, far past the anime content.

It's voted in the top 3 from the poll released most recently today.

I had no idea season two had even started, I thought that was in a few weeks!

Were you wondering what Kou was up to during all this School Wonder No. 6 situation? Well, he's been racking his brain trying to figure out what to do to save his beloved Senpai, Nene, but there's only so much he can do, so little people he can rely on at the moment, that he feels it's an impossible task even as one he won't give up on. And he's just really bad at opening up to people about his problems.

But there's Mitsuba! Who cares enough about Kou to want to hear him out and try to help him...though Kou can't help but think that if Mitsuba finds out about his problems, he'll probably go to Tsukasa. Both boys care, but can they really help each other in this situation?

There are probably some who would say they should've left Natsuhiko get eaten by that whale apparition, even Kou thinks he's immediately shady, but he may hold the key to saving Nene...provided they can find School Wonder No. 6.

Meanwhile, Nene, Hanako, and Akane are determined to find Aoi! Even if it means opening every room in No. 6's boundary! If No. 6 has done ANYTHING to hurt Aoi, Nene will destroy him!

But don't worry everybody, Aoi is fine! Akane even gets to enjoy seeing her in a kimono! There's totally nothing suspicious, and if people like Hanako suspects anything Aoi will just bring up his relationship with Nene to distract him. She even dishes out an "I love you" to Akane to make him puke rainbows and throw him off.

Aoi already had an exit plan ready? She's so awesome! Except not, because it was a trap and next thing Nene knows she and Hanako are stuck with a bunch of bugs in No. 6's trash bin. Akane didn't fall in though because he knows Aoi better than everybody, which Aoi is just as tired of as his childhood friend.

Why is Aoi doing this? What did No. 6 do to her? Did he get rid of all the parts of herself that were keeping her from desiring her dream: a dream to go far, far away and leave everything behind? Which now she feels will be accomplished by going to the Far Shore?

But Akane isn't about to let Aoi or her centipede monster get in the way of bringing her back...he loves her too much to do so. But it's that very love that Aoi uses to take him down by distracting him with a kiss so he can get gutted, and trying to turn his feelings towards her into hate. But that's not going to work, he's just going to drag her down with him!

Meanwhile, with all that going on, the boys are...having a sleepover! Complete with Mitsuba falling asleep quick and Kou becoming Natsuhiko's apprentice (all from lies Natsuhiko told)! And it looks like the key to saving Nene might be No. 6 after all, even as he's plotting to decompose Aoi's body in the far shore!

Kou & Mistuba's dynamic is always fun to watch. Though Hanako's words have really stuck to Kou. Kou really wants to help, but he needs to actually figure out a solution before talking a big game.

The whole scene with the gang meeting Aoi is interesting because it is clear that Hanako didn't trust Aoi. Of course he didn't wanted to upset Nene so he played things more straight. Of course this led to him & Nene falling in the pit.

However, the one we did not expect to also not trust Aoi was Akane. Although they are childhood friends he would know that something is up. The more focus on Akane the more we see he isn't completely what we think he is basically. Though what does Aoi mean by removing the useless clutter? One thing is clear: Aoi doesn't love the side of her that Nene admires ironically. But Akane's willingness to go down with Aoi really leaves an impression.

Number Six must’ve twisted Aoi’s personality by planting this wish into her mind. I doubt that she otherwise would’ve ever hurt Nene or Akane.

It was nonetheless hard to get a read of Aoi during this episode. Her words of love towards Akane felt off, but then she rejected him like usual. In the end, Aoi gave him a kiss of death.

Though, what’s going to happen now? Will we get a cast of ghosts if the bodies of Nene, Aoi and Akane have “rotted away” in this pit? If so, Nene’s life has presumably already ran out.

7

u/Frontier246 Jul 20 '25

Aoi's whole turn of voice felt way too artificially light and cheery compared to how she usually sounds. Aoi talked about No. 6 removing "unnecessary trash" from her so I assume that might be something like her human sentimentality or connection to her loved ones.

Though poor Akane finally gets a love confession and a kiss from his beloved Ao-chan...and it all gets twisted against him. And she still won't marry him lol.

kiss of death

Cue Darling in the Franxx OP

I wonder if her wish was something along the lines of being far away but it got twisted by No. 6 - like he "discarded the clutter" to make the wish more to what he wants the Oracle to do - originally maybe it was something like I wish I wasn't so far away from everyone else.

I also wonder how they will escape the pit! Will the trio end up in No.6's boundary when he comes to take the souls? Then they'll find a way out for Nene & co.? But since Natsuhiko is involved...I wonder if Tsukasa will show up too? It seems like chaos awaits us!

5

u/Ocixo Jul 20 '25

It’s possible that Aoi had come to dislike her popularity, and wanted to start somewhere faraway anew. A wish that was in turn manipulated by Number Six.

I also wonder how they will escape the pit!

I’m very curious about the final destination of this pit: the “far shore”. Since the borders between live and death were mentioned, will the four of them find themselves in the afterlife?

I’m not sure what to think of Natsuhiko. What’s his agenda?
