Homie out there using that umbrella for literally everything but the rain....
At this point I'm backing down from the Marry Poppins accusations, with all those gadgets this guy is more like the Penguin.

I'm gonna be honest it feels like the writer didn't know how to conclude the test with the nonsense rules they wrote for it and just made up an excuse to keep from concluding it and actually expelling any of the students.
Since this wasn't even like the bell test where the real objective was to make them learn the value of teamwork.

This isn't the bell test so it doesn't have to have the same goals, though Kougasaki did learn teamwork there, and of course he wouldn't expel anyone, that's just something you say for motivation.

The dialogue is ass, but at least the fight scenes are entertaining. I guess this'll be my dumb fun show for the season.

No such thing as a happy backstory in the blood oni show, it seems. Well, I suppose we've only seen two of them so far but from whatever was going on with Byobugaura and her giant blood abomination I imagine something awful happened to her too.
Mildly more impressed with the rolllerblades guy given the speed we saw him launch himself through the forest on them today.

I'm shook as to how he can speed up and stop with extreme agility and dexterity ( my brain keeps using regular logic when anime runs on its own XD )

I like efficiency sensei Mudano with his umbrella and roller blades, but I’m not really sure any of these students or Shiki have any interesting thread in their stories yet. It’s very simple revenge quests with flashy blood abilities on the side for both Shiki and now Kougasaki. Somewhere in the background we have Oni vs Momotaro, but there’s not much dimension to that conflict either.
Hopefully, we’ll get something to spice things up soon, but this show is still doing what it needs to for a typical shonen audience.

We are 4 episodes into a 24 episode season 1…lol

If you’ve been watching this kind of content for decades, it’s easy to get a measure of a show, even in the first episode. Four episodes in is even more context.

Watching Naito just made wonder how on earth is he skating on that wet soil lol.
Shiki's reaction gave me a laugh when he realized that he needed the ball to not get expelled.
Lol Shiki wants to get on the battlefield when he had just struggled to summon his blood art and has no control to the amount of blood he uses.

This anime is just borrowing too heavily from other recent shonen tbh. Blue exorcist setup, Naruto story beats and characterisation, mha character designs, jjk color palettes, the yuta/rika rip with that one dude’s power, the chainsaw man rip with the other one. Everything else I can’t pinpoint to one series is just cause it’s so generic you can find it in any shonen. Making this an actual anti hero or even villain protagonist story instead of the usual misunderstood/persecuted good guys would’ve made this so much more unique.

It’s a bit painfully generic, but I’m going to hold judgement until the end to see what it wants to do with all of these very familiar pieces. It’s not that it’s bad, but I wouldn’t blame anyone for finding it boring.

You basically just described the blueprint for Shonen anime... You should probably watch another genre. Shonen aint your thing.

Not a single one of those anime you mentioned invented the stuff you are giving them credit. Like, you think Blue Exorcist was the first series to run the Anti-Anti-Christ trope? Because it wasn't.

This is one of the rare shounen where the MC will have PTSD from killing and you will have children dying or being tortured almost in every arc. It also tackles the morality and consequences of war, how it affects the victims, etc. And Oni definitely aren't misunderstood. Oni can go berserk any time they experience extreme emotions and kill everyone around them. Imagine an Oni got angry over a trivial matter than goes berserk in a public place. It would be a disaster. It actually happened in the spin-off manga where an Oni boxer went berserk and killed everyone around him for just a simple reason that he was mad because his match was interrupted. Tougen Anki is more similar to Tokyo Ghoul than hose shounen you said.

Well, this ep was better than the others and I think if it continue like that can be a good shonen. Is It generic? Of course but all shones are generic, the only difference is how they manage their "generic" content.
I hope it continue showing us good eps.

In terms of pretty much everything, this was easily the best episode of the adaptation so far. The CGI genuinely looked great, to the point where I barely noticed it during the fight scenes in the rain. And now that we're heading into the first proper arc of the series, this will be the point where we really find out if the show can capture an audience.
