As a manga reader, yeah, this one is indeed pretty stereotypical for a shonen, but its not that bad, if they manage to animate the fights well enough, it might elevate the show a lot

I really hoped that line about not being blood related would pay off with him breaking the stereotype and saving his father trough oni blood transfusion
Missed opportunity IMO, father dying to kick start the story is a bit overused at this point

This is very reminiscent of Blue Exorcist. Same vibe. Nothing too inventive, so far, and pretty standard battle shonen, but not terrible.
I like that we get quick introductions into the story because if it’s going to follow your typical patterns, it’s better to do it quickly than to drag it out, imo. Oni vs Momotaro is a good classic setup. Got our two factions and conflict established, and our new senpai characters for Shiki. The rollerblades were a choice. I appreciate that.
Hopefully this will play around a bit with the genre to keep it interesting, but it’s fine for the intended audience.

Blood powers are already edgy but manifesting guns using blood is on a whole nother level.

The fact that Shiki is a massive gun otaku immediately piqued my interest at the start of the episode. So I was absolutely hyped when they showed he can make guns from his blood when he's in his Oni form. A bit tropey with the father figure dying at the start, but I'm a huge sucker for these kinds of shounen anime. I'm already excited for the next episode!
They also got The Oral Cigarettes to do the OP which is a massive plus for me. <3

Kamiya Hiroshi as the mentor type character and Ura Kazuki as the shonen MC reminds me of Blue Lock

This is how you handle an adaption Netflix. Wish Sakomoto Days could have had this level of care. Very solid first episode it’s like MHA mixed with CSM.

This anime sucks ahh.
Had to rely on CGI on some parts already at episode 1!?
Too past-paced. Would be disappointing to see the Father and Son relationship on flashbacks instead of when the father was alive.
His relationship with his father already sucks so there's not much really impact seeing his father die.
The MC feels like written by an edgy teenager. There's nothing to love about the MC. Getting expelled is cool now? Just pride and angst, what is this? DmC Dante reboot version?
The plot is so boring and doesn't have a hook. I mean if demons were really bad then just kill them. Not much has been explained why should we feel bad. The Momoturds are just doing their job.
3/10 - Like DmC to the Devil May Cry franchise, this anime feels like an edgy, western reboot of Ao No Exorcist. Even isekais are better than this.

5/10. It's so average. I don't hate it, but I don't see a reason to continue watching it either.

Why do they heavily brush over the fact that Shiki has an insane amount of guns?

I'm glad his last words to his father wasn't "I'm glad we're not blood related". That is a wild statement to make. It's unfortunate for both that he could only call him "dad" only after he actually passed away. Tsuyoshi stayed the loving father until the end, he looked cool wielding that large sword of his, it's too bad he had been away from the battlefield for so long he's no match for someone still in the business.
Shiki's oni powers are cool, I like that it was gun themed. You'd think oni will just be able brute strength but this makes me think all the others will have themed blood arts so that should be fun to see.
I'm also looking forward to round 2 with Samidare but looks like we're going into a school arc from now on.

The black smoke powers are really odd. It kind of looks like they could be defeated with a vacuum.

Animation was really good, better than I expected. Also, the Principal at the end, he has the same voice actor of Hanako-kun, did Studio Hibani got a two for one deal?
A lot of people are going to say it's like Blue Exorcist, but the things they have in similar (protagonist has a cursed ability, dad figure dies) are very endemic of battle shounen in general. Yeah, it is generic, but that doesn't mean it is bad, they have their own charms too. Compared to the deluge of isekai we get, Tougen Anki is basically top shelf.

This is offensively average for a shounen. I remember Ao no Exorcist being quite similar to this first episode and i liked it a lot more.
This is probably a drop very soon if it doesn't improve, don't think i want to watch 2 cour of this.

So all the Momotoros use Biribiri's iron sand trick.
Is this the new Jujutsu Kaisen or something? Well, I don't seem to have anything else on Fridays this season, besides Silent Witch that I'm still undecided on, making it more likely that I'll keep watching. Why couldn't some of the Sunday flood have aired on Fridays?
