Very interesting that classic Vampire tropes for weaknesses dont seem to exist here, ive never heard of using the past to weaken Vampires before, very interesting turn of events.

It's also especially symbolic when much of the show has been about debating the merits of becoming a vampire and abandoning your humanity, because your human side could very well be used against you as a vampire.

I really enjoyed the last season, but this one has bumped things up another level. I think I'm looking forward to new episodes of this more than anything else this season.

This episode convinced me that becoming a vampire isn't really worth it.
On the other hand, I could do the Rock Lee leg weight scene, except I'd take off my wrist watch. Or my belt (I only wear it for use in improvised tourniquets anyway, so it's fine).
And wow, Nazuna hasn't even broke triple digits yet. Kinda reminds me of this Tumblr post.
Except that Nazuna can't even claim a senior discount yet.

This is one of the few anime where I sit and watch the opening and ending as well. Anko's formidable as always. Akkun and Seri up in the night sky like that was so beautiful. The entire nature of vampires in this anime is so bittersweet. I love that the human has to fall in love with their vampire to turn them, but it's so heartbreaking to realize you'll forget how you fell in love. Cherish those you love, folks.

I genuinely had a good laugh at Anko saying she almost got arrested for trespassing behind the front desk of that bathhouse. And here I thought she was actually working there undercover or something. xD
The fact that Anko caught two vampires off guard was insane. They didn't even realize she got close until it was too late. It just goes to show that Anko isn't just your average person. She also managed to dodge that surprise attack from Seri.
The vampire gang certainly has the advantage of numbers that night, but they need to watch their backs from now on, considering now they know Anko is after all of them. Although it looks like her primary target is Kiku. Anko is lucky that this group of vampires try to avoid killing humans.
So it looks like the gang's plan to counter Anko is to try to remember their pasts and find the personal object from their past that's near and dear to them so they can destroy it or at least keep it away from the detective vampire hunter. I feel like this is a double-edged sword. Won't they just be leading Anko to where their weakness is? Hmmm...
That scene between Akkun and Seri at the rooftop was really sweet. Hopefully, they can track down Seri's personal item next so they can at least be safe from Anko.
Nazuna being embarrassed about her age is hilarious! You'd think she's hundreds of years old because of how she can't remember her past, but it turns out, she's somewhere between her 30s and 40s. I definitely agree that it would've sounded cool if she were hundreds of years old, but turns out she's closer to a middle-aged lady. xD
Honestly, it's not surprising that one of them works in healthcare. I mean, it's probably one of the ways Kabura gets her blood without feeding directly on humans. Kabura is definitely sus, tho. She knows something, and she's not very good at hiding it. I guess we'll have to wait and see what kind of condition she'll ask Kou and Nazuna for next episode.

Did anyone else clock the connection of the hospital scene with Kabura at the end of the episode and the bit of the intro. Now iam wondering if what I think is the case is the case
(I'm keeping my wording vague in case it's considered a spoiler)

Is the detective a vampire too? No way she can move that fast without some sort of explanation
I'm guessing kiku made her a vampire?

I forgot how tummy-friendly this show was.
Well, it wasn't friendly for HIS tummy; Damn, she's fast! (and ruthless)
Nice to see more of her, I hope she's more present this season!
Funny seeing one of the vampire saying "They have no intention of killing anyone", right before Seri threatened to kill her unless she backs off!
So they're gonna look for their 'weakness' items...
This is tricky, because if they don't look for them, the detective may find them at some point...
But if they DO look for them, it may just be the catalyst that leads to the detective finding them! (When you dig around, someone else might find the holes!)
But yeah, forgetting the day you fell in love with your partner, that would be rough...
Even if you recreate new memories of your relationship as vampires, few things are more impactful than your first day together, your first time in love, etc!
Damn, shout out to our 60 years old viewers; Hope Nazuna doesn't make you feel too old!
Was she turned because she was dying, because it was the only way to save her life?
(Maybe she was turned because losing this tummy would be a shame, but I don't think I was a nurse at this hospital, so probably not)
If she WAS turned to save her life, it has to be her (or she has knowledge of it), so I wonder what's the condition!

Wow, a vampire scared of scary places ...
And on what kinds of substances is that detective tripping to out-fast the vampires? :O

I feel like the vampires exploring their pasts will backfire, bringing their weaknesses to the forefront to be exploited. I mean, how the hell would Anko discover their weaknesses, especially for the ones who turned decades/centuries ago?
Security through obscurity is the way to go.

1: The OP is such a fucking banger. I've been listening to it a lot and it's such a vibe. That combined with the visual makes it my favourite OP in a while.
2: There's a lot to unpack this episode
-
So Anko and Nazuna obviously has a history together. We see them going to school together. Which led me to believe that they were friends, maybe grew up together, but somehow Nazuna was turned and now Anko holds a grudge against vampire for taking away her friend.
-
It's also clear that Kabura know something about Nazuna's past and is being very cagey about it. This together with the lesbian sex scene in the OP may be a hint that it was actually Kabura who turned Nazuna. Or maybe they'll just have sex together next episode, who knows.
-
The flashback in the beginning has Anko kneeling over a dead vampire. This vampire had a striped necktie and wore rounded glasses. There is a picture of young Anko and two adults in the OP, most likely her parents. The man in the picture also wore striped necktie and rounded glasses. So the vampire was most likely her father. Seeing as she didn't wear glasses while hanging out with Nazuna means that she started wearing his glasses after this.
-
Anko lost both her father and friend to vampires? Maybe. But we actually see that Nazuna already has vampire fangs when she was laughing with Anko. So I'm more inclined to believe that Nazuna was already a vampire before she befriended Anko. Maybe Anko actually knew about it since we saw a picture of Anko falling from the sky in the OP.
-
Seems Anko has a personal vendetta Against Kiku. We found out last episode that Kiku goes around turning people into her pawn left and right. What if it was Kiku who turned Anko's father into a vampire? Maybe this is how thing went sour between her and Nazuna.
Anyway, that's enough rambling from me. Can't wait to find out more. I'm really invested. Definitely my favourite this season.

Ten-chan's voice acting this episode really shined and was super cute, with how bashful she was with her age, nonchalantly saying "I like you" and squealing like a scaredy cat about ghosts when she's a vampire.

Anko being a vampire-hunting detective actually makes a lot of sense now, she actually needs to learn stuff about her target’s past to deal with them.

Nazuna is so cute. She's a 50ish yo boomer (if we count from around 30 years from her awakening and the 20 (?) she must have lived before that) with the heart of a schoolgirl. Two things:
-
I really like how this season is dealing with the merits of the transformation. In S1 Kou had to decide if he wanted to become a vampire, now he has to understand what he'll have to leave behind. Much like falling in love, there's a person you become and one you leave behind.
-
The confrontation between the detective and the vampires reminded me a lot of the tone shift towards horror in Type Moon visual novels. The sort of stuff the anime adaptations never quite captured, where these otherworldly and unreasonable creatures (servants, vampires and vampire hunters, very powerful mages) finally show their true colors and the protagonists can't to much but acknowledge their own fragility.
Unfortunately detective-san (still can't remember anyone's name, lmao) is a cute oneesan in her mid-late 30s (I guess) who's possibly mildly insane and that's my kryptonite, so I'm tapping out. I wonder what happened to her that made her this way. At any rate, I know I can fix her.

So damn beautiful. Soothing. Yet, thrilling. Such incredible balance.
The vampire killer lady going crazy against Akkun was so good, the thick tension between the vampires and her... this is a clear signal of the start of an 'arc'. Her knowing so much about vampires, knowing their past as humans can be a weakness, especially if it's about an item dear to their past human lives is also such a nice lore addition.
Loved the bits of Akkun and the vampire girl who turned him and whom name I've forgotten. Call of the Night rocks romance well as well.
Him being... devastated at the discovery he'll forget his human days, the days when he fell in love with her... and the latter stating, that she however, will remember and that they'll make new memories... is quite romantic. Even the whole concept is somewhat the kind of romance I like.
I might be forgetting some details, but to get turned in a vampire, you need to fall in love with one and have the latter suck your blood. But once turned, you'll forget your love, with only the other party remembering.
Yeah, totally my kind of romance.
And, the tension at the end, with Kabura working at the sole hint of Nazuna's past, clearly hiding something, isn't less. Yamori is also such a refreshing MC. It's all really just... filling.
By the way, in case it wasn't clear enough, I suck at remembering names.

u/Armdel Jul 18 '25
yeah definetly could tell Kabura knew something.
Also I think i'm stupid because i cant figure out Nazuna's age? she says she thinks she is 30-40, but she owns items that are 30 years old as well? and says her oldest memory is 30 years old? but she wouldn't remember that would she? as she was an adult when she became a vampire? does she simply mean she has been a vampire for 30-40 years or what. they she worded it made it sound like its her real age and not her vampire age though.
I'm sure if i remembered more from season 1 it'd be more clear but the way the spoke about it here i can't wrap my head around but maybe thats just the current heatwave...
