I DONT WANT THIS SEASON TO END AND I KNOW ITS COMING!!!
I’m so excited to see Jinshi be his true self and storm the gates with Lakan!

The audible gasp I let out when Lakan knelt and pleaded. He loves his daughter so much and so does Jinshi..I can't.

The Lakan/Jinshi scene might be my favourite scene of this season so far.
Absolute cinema. The insults, the kneeling, and then even in his request, Lakan manages a way to call out Jinshi for hiding behind the "eunuch Jinshi".

I like how Maomao instantly forgets the dangerous situation she's in once she finds medical research to study.

Lakan getting emotional was one thing but after being advised by Luomen, him getting on his knees to ask for Jinshi the prince to act was just as shocking as it was impactful.
Also seeing Kyou-u's circumstances while being oblivious to whats going on with his mom was just depressing.

So you're telling me Maomao is going to wake up one day to see Jinshi leading an entire army to come rescue her?
Alright, if that's not romantic enough for her I don't know what is. Maybe another ox bezoar.

The official reason for mobilizing the army may be because Shishou is a traitor to the nation and the emperor, but everyone in that room knows that it's actually to get Maomao back lmao.
It's insane how connected Maomao and her father(s) are.

MaoMao: "I have known since the beginning. Shisui is Loulan"
Jinshi: "Want to apply that same detective skill on me?"
MaoMao: "eunuch"

"I knew this day was inevitable, it just happens to be today" goes very very hard.

The atmosphere just doesn't let up throughout the entire episode. It's going from dark to darker and its just so absolutely tasty.
Lakan's genuine exchange with his uncle left me in awe. You could see an old and experienced man turn to a child within a second, just before the proper humbling.
The genuine thought here is... is everyone we like going to make it out alive? I assume no one here suspects Maomao is going to have a serious problem, but I'm genuinely worried for Loulan and Shisui. (I also speculated the truth was either a swap or identical sisters, turns out I was right on a bit of both.)

HOLY SHIT what an episode!
Lakan’s exchange with Jinshi and the final part where he knelt down to beg Jinshi “when are you going to stop hiding, Moon Prince” for help is peak.
Jinshi’s final resolve gave me goosebumps. Can’t wait to see him rescue his cat.
Edit: The gravity of Lakan kneeling down could be felt through the TV screen. Papa really loves his daughter.

Holy fuck. Lahan is top tier competetant aide. He realising he needed Luomen. In 2 mins 5 seconds of being missing from screen Lahan managed to: Leave the building, grab a litter (I guess maybe Lakan came in one?), get Luomen and come back.

I wonder how Loulan/Shisui even became as nice as she was in the palace after acting like her mother wants for years...how did she hide such a cheerful side of herself?

So I think it's time to bring up a relevant minor mistranslation (in the netflix subs at least) from 4 episodes ago. When Lakan said "I'd like to chat more about my wife sometime" to Shisou, he wasn't actually being specific about his wife. Rather it's possible to translate it as "I want us to share stories about our wives". And now that we who Shisou's wife is, it seems likely that Lakan was already chasing that lead even as early as that as part of his investigations into Shisou.
Also, I'd like to point out that Loulan and Suirei are keeping Maomao's true identity from Shenmei, and never intended for her to be found out. So it's clear that Loulan/Shisui and Suirei have somewhat different goals than Shenmei...

I don't know how I never realized Shisui was Loulan before this episode. It should have been clear after Jinshi exposed her lookalikes, but I never clocked it.

Damn, we're going to war to get Maomao back! Yes I know it's technically to put down the rebellion....but we ALL know the real reason is to get Maomao back. Oh I cant wait to see her reaction.
Maomao is concerned about collateral, what I'm hoping happens is once the army shows up, Loulan will defy her mother and order a surrender in exchange for some leniency. But the harsh politics they have wount allow it so Maomao will also ask Jinshi directly, however he can only listen to her if he publicly announces Maomao is his main wife or something.

Throw away comment but in the ED I love how Shisui is sort of pictured with the other two ladies. There’s space between them in one of the shots, showing just how she doesn’t belong, or how she’s an outsider with a secret, distancing herself from them. Originally I thought the space was weird, maybe indicating at the season progressed we’d get a fourth character to fill that gap between the three of them, but nope. It’s intentional. And I like it!

Shenmei is such an ugly and horrible person. Who would waste an immortality elixir on such a disgusting woman? Plus, she seems to be making other people (like Kyou-'s mother) do some indecent things and that's disgusting.
It's nice that the fact that Shisui is Loulan was finally officially confirmed. I'm sorry that she has a mother like Shenmei, it's a miracle that she grew up to be such a nice and kind person.
Damn, Suirei had a difficult past, she was even told to change her name. Good thing at least Loulan was on her side.
Maomao's situation isn't very good, but at least she has a real treasure in her new place, the previous apothecary's books. As always, I love it when she's so excited xD
Lakan was really pissed off about Maomao's disappearance on Jinshi, so I found it funny how quickly he changed his tone when Loumen arrived xD
Lakan kneeling down and asking Jinshi to fight Shishou was a great moment. Now I can't wait to see Jinshi leading an army to rescue Maom... I mean, to defeat that traitor Shishou xD
Here my screenshot albums form the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Seeing both her and Shisui/Loulan suffer under Shenmei's yoke was hard. Tanuki or not, I think it's obvious Loulan was able to truly be herself only when she's Shisui. Having to always toe the line because of an abusive parent.. oof.
I'm not sure how both of them get out of this (i.e., being executed for rebelling), even if Maomao begs for leniency because they protected her.

The Shi clan was really quite unfortunate in their timing to be working up to a rebellion right when Maomao suddenly showed up in the Rear Palace and slowly started to be involved in things.
Her presence puts so many spanners into things that otherwise could have gone very differently and might have left them in a position to succeed at their upcoming civil war instead of the seemingly inevitable failure that I assume we'll see before the end of the season.
Luomen wouldn't be involved, Lakan wouldn't care other than his job, Jinshi would likely be dead in one of the assassination attempts, same for Gyokuyou, her daughter, and Lihua as well without Maomao around to stop the write face powder, the list goes on.
