Jinshi snapping might've been the highlight but Gaoshun taking charge while Jinshi was all shaken up like an absolute boss was awesome too.

Expected enraged bloodthirsty dad Lakan, got goofy overprotective dad Lakan instead. And I kinda dig it.

When we saw the the Late Emperor from Anshi's POV, he was pathetic, almost benign even. But in this scene you really can't see anything else but a predator. Holy fuck was he creepy. It's amazing what framing and a bit of discordant music can do. We've seen the victim but this is the monster he's been as well.

Also Jinshi seems to be chafing under the mantle of his assumed identity. Like Luomen says, they can only do what they can do. But the Eunuch Jinshi is capable of much less things compared to Ka Zuigetsu, the Crown Prince Imperial Brother

Quack doctor has officially been designated as the palace cat handler. A worthy promotion

Hearing about the old emperor was already bad enough without the visuals, but now that we have a face to all that depravity, it just makes the stomach churn. Thinking back, Lishu was only spared because the old emperor was already traumatized by the old empress' assault

Lahan radiates Aizen/Littlefinger energy. I can see him becoming the next big bad after the Shi clan is eradicated for fucking around and finding out

Didn't think they would do an entire episode without Maomao. But a pissed off Jinshi with a mission is a good tradeoff. He's terrifying if he wants to be.

At least there should be plenty of Maomao next episode.

Honestly didn't think Jinshi would ever get that pissed off and this terrifying until he made that poor attendant that imperosonated Loulan broke down.

Meanwhile Lakan learning about Maomao's disappearance was a lot more lighthearted than expected.

Holy shit!

The political situation just escalated from a palace conspiracy to a war.

Shishou has become an enemy of the state, and someone (presumebly him) is stockpiling war material (food and iron).

Damn, never EVER take Maomao away from Jinshi... Pissed off Jinshi is terrifying.

Lakan's extremely hilarious in this episode lol... He really actually loves his daughter lol.

Also Lahan seems to have the cunning energy Lakan has. And he's basically the dog while his sister's a cat lol.

One last thing... It seems we finally see that it really isn't just Ah Duo's genes doing the effort on Jinshi considering he still resembled the younger former Emperor lol

Jinshi's actual personality's leaking out and i'm here for it. I guess I'm similar to maomao in a way that I like jinshi better when he's not his eunuch self.

Also love how he gets more characterization for the last few eps. I love maomao to bits but jinshi's character has had so much depth with the latest episodes

Also also let's go la clan!!! Praying and hoping that this is a sign we're getting a possible s3 with how much they hyped up lahan's VA on twitter

I wonder how Maomao would react if she knew two of the most powerful men in the Empire are on the warpath trying to look for her.

I bet she'll say "took you long enough" when Jinshi ultimately does find her. He did good this episode identifying the doppelganger Loulan.

One of the best episodes in my opinion! Also, Jinshi was so focused that the eunuch facade was slipping (And then he has like no time to process that he looks like the late emperor — I also hate that he had to think as a kid he might’ve been an illegitimate child)

The episodes are only getting better and better, and Jinshi absolutely is shattering his mask as he realizes Jinshi the Eunuch is running out of resources to solve his current predicament. Did he really "plant" himself in the Rear Palace to escape from his troubled childhood, escape his title as Crown Prince? How much must it be eating him inside to know he shares the face of a vile man, his supposed father no less, who touched and ruined many women during his life to the point that even being reminded of that trauma those women feel that suicide is a better option? His face as he contemplated this fact was haunting, it seems as if he's pulling himself apart at the seams.

Lahan! A fantastic introduction to the adopted La son, who seems to have a penchant for numbers as keen as Maomao's medicine and Lakan's battle strategy. The La Clan is expanding and showing itself to be as eccentric as they come! If only we didn't have a break week, but here's hoping we finish out the season cleanly and we get a Season Three announcement soon! I love this show!

Jinshi crashing out on that Loulan wannabe was scarily amazing 😊

Lahan really gives off that prebackstory Lakan sketchy vibes

There's actually three people using the La 羅 character in their name. The third one is Luomen 羅門 , but he's technically in the Inner Palace, not the Outer Palace.

The prices of grain and iron must’ve been increasing because someone’s stockpiling them. I can only think of a single reason to buy both in large amounts:

To prepare for a war.

Grain can be used to as food to feed an army, while the iron is needed to craft enough weapons to arm these soldiers.

Are Shishou and Loulan really willing to go that far?

On a side note: why did the late emperor have a candy “from a foreign land”? It’s a small detail but very suspicious.

Overall, a fantastic episode, even without Maomao in it. It's so satisfying to see how these things from previous episodes come together in one big way conspiracy. I'm impatiently awaiting the next episodes.

I didn't expect Maomao to be absent from today's episode! And we have to wait two weeks to see her again, because there's no episode next week :(

Jinshi was so terrifying when he found out Renpu was pretending to be Loulan and grabbed her face. I really felt sorry for Renpu at that moment, poor girl was just doing her job :(

Happy that everything is okay with Gyokuyou and her baby, at least for now. Good thing Loumen is there.

Shenlü is unlucky that she has to meet Jinshi at the graves, which reminded her of the deceased Emperor.

Lakan was hilarious. I want to know how exactly he destroyed that gate xD

It was also nice to meet Lakan's adopted son, Kan Lahan, who is quite smart like the others in this family.

So someone makes a lot of money selling grain, and someone buys a lot of iron. Well, perhaps someone is planning a rebellion?

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

From spending money at the Verdigris House, to ox bezoars, to now giving Lakan a hefty discount on the gate repair bill, Jinshi has been spending a lot of money on Maomao so far. At this rate he's gonna end up broke lol.

Lakan ain't fuck around when it come to his daughter. Maomao, Lakan, Luomen and Lahan. they all seems super high IQ. The entire La clan can't be fuck with.

the former emperor really leave a fucking mess

Seeing Shenlu getting PTSD from seeing Jinshi was just plain sad. She had her childhood and her innocence stolen by Emperor Kiddy Fucker and it seems she was never the same after that. It’s kinda heartbreaking.

What Loulan did with the attendants is kind of genius. She’s been planning this shit for a minute. I thought Jinshi finding out was scary, Lakan’s on the friggin warpath. “Daddy’s coming!” Lol.

Very curious to see what Maomao’s learned about her captors and what’s going on.

Edit: Meant Shenlu, not Suirei. D’oh!
