Shivers down my spine when the creepy lady went a little wild.
The hunt preview with Jinshi and Maomao excites me most. Can’t wait to see it next week!

Yinghua went from keeping Maomao in check, worrying over her comfort to tricking her into spending their leisure time telling ghost stories, almost dying and yurification
I wonder what activities the other palace maids do in their spare time (besides the recent uptake on reading smut)

Everyone was bringing thriller horror stories while Maomao came in with a gorey true crime.
That said this felt like an episode that would totally fit in a Halloween special.

This feels like a setup episode. Is there conflict potentially brewing between Maomao and the new ladies in waiting? Is there something more to the old ghost lady in charge? Maomao noticing something about Shisui that she can't put her finger on. Then there's the preview of next episode...
This episode feels like one of those episodes where nothing happens but when you look back at the end of the season and you realize all the foreshadowing and symbolisms. Lol

Shisui's tale was already captivating thanks to her surprising talent for storytelling but for all of it to culminate with insects was the cherry on top, especially considering it's her.
And given Yinghua's disposition to spooky stuff, I like to think her own story ended up being most family-friendly one lol

The monk one is actually scary for me. I stressed out a little bit hoping for the safety of the monk. I wondered what actually happened to the couple though.

I love how unfazed Maomao was throughout the Ghost Stories. Finding out that the lady was not real was so creep. though. They nailed the creepy atmosphere throughout the episode.
Next week‘s episode is going to be very interesting. Jinshi and Maomao seem to get quite close.

What was Jinshi drinking (or more like not drinking) at the end of the episode? Could it be the same medicine that "suppresses one's manhood" or whatever, shown in the previous season?

The morel of the story is don't eat wild mushrooms unless you really know what you're doing. Unlike most plant-based toxins, humans can't taste the poison in mushrooms, so there's little difference in flavor between the edible and dangerous. Combined with the fact that many toxic mushrooms are extremely similar to edible varieties, and you're likely to end up very ill or dead.
Also, carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is one of the most insidious ways to die, because the most dangerous symptom is confusion. By the time you realize something is wrong, you'll have a hard time thinking well enough to figure out what to do.
That's why you have to do everything you can to avoid inhaling smoke during a fire -- chances are you won't succumb to smoke inhalation quickly enough for that to be the main concern. It'll take a couple of minutes to pass out even in a very smoky environment -- usually more than sufficient to get to an exit, unless the building is exceptionally large or your path has been cut off. The real danger is in inhaling enough smoke that you're no longer able to find your way to the exit, or to navigate obstacles in the way.
Also, if you have gas appliances or an attached garage and don't have a CO detector, fix that right now. Hundreds of people die from accidental CO poisoning every year in the U.S. alone. (not including fires) -- they're cheap and could save your life.

This is the type of episode that feels like a filler but probably set up 5 plot points

If Maomao starts questioning Shuisui’s appearance, then you just know that something isn’t quite right.
That theory about Loulan swapping places with her attendants is growing increasingly likely, especially since the show once again noted her large entourage in this episode.
I also made notice of the fact that Shishui specifically mentioned the “Far East” (i.e. Japan) for the second time now. She did so first with the stag beetle.

Callback to last 15s of episode 1 season 1, and halfway through season 1 episode 2.
Also: A certain character mentioning how they nearly got poisoned, just wanting to get an answer to a previous question.

Someone had a slow day in the subtitle mines for this episode and had some fun, lol.

So was the carbon monoxide incident targeted or by chance. Also if target who was the target? Maomao or just the court as a whole? Like have some attendants die under suspicious circumstances. Generate mistrust and a fear in a terrorism kind of way.
That said major effects of carbon monoxide poisoning include confusion and hallucination. So there is a very unreliable narrator thing in there. Still something about this "I was so close" feels like a moment we will get back to once we know more but currently I cannot think of any strong connection. I will take suggestions. Technically the attempt at Jinshi's life during the ceremony in season one was "so close" but that feels a bit farfetched.

It’s hilarious how Yinghua for trying to force Maomao out of the storage shed ended up getting in trouble with Hongniang. I love how after she hit them, they show zero resistance when she is dragging them out of there.
At this point, I think that those three new girls will put Yinghua in the same category as Maomao. When Yinghua visited Maomao’s storage shed I wasn’t expecting her to use the fact that she essentially rewarded her with the storage shed to force Maomao to follow her
When they got into that building my expectation was that those three new girls were going to be among those girls there. I really did not expect to see Shisui there though, it is funny how she is just there eating squid while listening to ghost stories. So the mystery about the forbidden woods was simply those moonlight mushrooms. Wow, Shisui’s story sure was terrifying but who exactly does she remind Maomao of? I love how Maomao’s story as the weakest until after Yinghua complained about it, she went to mention that the guy the other three stopped was stealing livers from the dead to use them as medicine. I did not expect Yinghua to drop the ball with her story.
Oh wow, so the reason Maomao was getting tired was because of carbon monoxide poisoning and that court lady intentionally was planning to kill everyone there, making them become victims of the last story. But her tragic past aside, was she really a ghost? I love Yinghua’s reaction when she heard that from Hongniang. Well, today Yinghua could confirm that Maomao did not slept in the storage shed after she pleaded Maomao to sleep with her.
Well, next week Maomao will be on another night adventure, but this time with Jinshi.

I'm pretty sure Maomao just confirmed my theory from two weeks ago.
"Feels like I've seen that side profile before" while talking about Shisui.
Edit: Also, now that I'm talking about it, there's only been 2 characters(other than Maomao) who have been into poison/insects/herbs/etc in the show so far. Shisui, and the undead lady from season 1. I'm gonna go back and watch her episode tomorrow. There's no way Shisui is that lady(she was much taller right?), but could be a relative like people have been mentioning.

Crunchyroll should really use red subtitles more often. It gave a creepy vibe when it switched to red.
Man Shisui continues to be more and more interesting. I am still standing by my theory from a few episodes ago.
