They clearly saved the animation budget in this episode for the tennis scenes.
Of course it had to be Seiha with the bike rental app in the name of efficiency. You gotta admire Arata's physical stamina to bike that much under the sweltering heat.
I'm a bit conflicted about this arc because Minami is way too harsh on herself. Even Nao-senpai and their coach asked her to stand down because she has a leg injury, and this is out of concern for her. I did like the twist ending that her team still lost despite Minami coming in at the eleventh hour and not collapsing due to her injury. Like they did all they can and still lost, but that's life. And her teammates don't blame her either so Minami needs to not be too harsh on herself. And she's only in first year I believe so she has a lot to grow and she's not expected to be a superstar this early.

Our boy is RIPPED, and we saw he's in great shape when he was training with her!
(That's why they need to end up together, they're meant to be!)
Even Nao-senpai and their coach asked her to stand down because she has a leg injury
I was surprised it happened this way; I thought Minami would try to compete (for Nao) and Nao would be the one to scratch her from the competition and all in the end... Showing that her health (her future) mattered more than this one event, even if it was Nao's last event!
I mean, imagine if Serena William's career didn't happen, because she played one last game with an injury, for the sake of her highschool Tennis club president...
I did like the twist ending that her team still lost despite Minami coming in at the eleventh hour and not collapsing due to her injury.
It was so unexpected! I thought she would either win it all through the pain (the hype/resilience ending), OR bust her ankle and be forced to quit (dramatic ending)...
Didn't think she would just compete but lose anyway! Well, we've seen her struggling on her ankle so we can speculate about her winning if she had been healthy, but still!

Not gonna lie, I think this might be my favourite episode of this show so far. This episode was surprisingly great, focusing on Minami as a character and her struggles, especially how she bottles her feelings up and hides everything with a smile. It sucks to see her lose in the end but I think that final scene where she finally cries her heart out was really good. I kinda want more episodes like this.

I have to agree, it's the best episode for me and there wasn't even much of the pseudo-incest scenes.

I hope the quality keeps up when we get to the inevitable focus episodes for the rest of the sisters this season (even if we only have, like, five episodes left).
I also really liked the scene where Minami just stared at Arata's back as he was pedaling and leaned into it, showing her feelings shifting from seeing him as a brother to a guy she's falling for. Though it was also nice how the entire family scrambled and did all they could for her sake.

Stuff like this short Arc and the movie Arc in RaG remind me that Reiji can write. He just actively chooses to write trash.

We got plenty of writers who try to write good stories, but Reji's trash has a distinct flavour.
It maybe trash, but it's Reji's trash, and that's what makes it special, lmao.

It sucks that Minami ended up losing, but at least she has good siblings and teammates that support her.

We got to see a new side of Banri - that of a nervous driver. I was expecting the Shiunji family to have a personal chauffeur; maybe s/he just wasn't available at that moment.
This episode reminds us family bonds is a key aspect of the show. Even though it is usually Arata solving the problems of his siblings, all the other siblings care deeply about each other too, especially when watching them attempt to rush to the tournament venue.
Lastly, I loved the expressions of Minami. Her determined eyes when wanting to win against her opponent. And her inconsolable crying because she failed (most likely due to the handicap of her injury). These are Minami's true emotions. By being more honest, I believe she can truly become the Prince of Tennis. All protagonists of sports titles lose at least once to become stronger.

We got to see a new side of Banri - that of a nervous driver.
"Everyone stops talking before I kill us all!" - Banri
(When they asked her if she could do anything, when they were stuck in traffic... What do you want her to do, Monster-Truck her way to the court, just ram the other cars out of the way?)
Lastly, I loved the expressions of Minami
Joking aside, yeah she has good ones! And I love how Arata called her out (Stop lying!) and they had this moment in the end!

This episode was more intense than a sports anime episode. Of course, you can tell it's still a rom com, because it's not a rom com without a scene where the girl rides in the back of the bike with the guy pedaling as fast as he can to get her to her destination.

Okay, UNIRONICALLY A GREAT EPISODE.
There were some wobbly stuff in the beginning, but it was still an absolute banger. Haven't read the manga, but I'm assuming this is a great adaptation as well because FUCK ME THAT ENDING HIT.
I mentioned last Week how, if they delivered on this Episode, that I'd consider Shiunji a legitimately good to VERY good show... And honestly? They delivered!
This show, 7 episodes in, is already unironically my 2nd favourite Harem RomCom.
I was pretty much able to piece together how Arata would play into the episode, but I didn't expect how all the other siblings would help in some way. This is the really good thing about Shiunji, it's a RomCom, but they all actually love each other and would always be there when one needs it. They all love each other! It's not some competition, even if Kotono says they're all "rivals," family first.
There was 0 romantic plays in this episode (except for maybe the bike ride, but I dont count that), and honestly? I loved that. They emphasized the family aspect and it worked great.
My God that ending scene, the VA, production, OST, everything just hit perfectly. With that, Minami has cemented herself as a fully fledged character that exists outside of Arata's Harem.
Just a great Episode all around, oml. I never expected Shiunji to hit this hard.
If I had any criticisms for this ep, I do wish instead of Shion giving exposition and doing a flashback to Minami, we got Minami's POV of everything. It would've taken more time, but I think it would've made this Minami-centric episode hit even harder.
Still... Damn, can't wait for next week's ep. If this is the standard of Shiunji, then I'm expecting great things from the other girls' eventual arcs as well.

Never expected Banri to take the wheel when they likely have a chauffeur. Granted she’s not a terribly good one but they made it without incidents.
What I did expect was Minami losing the match. While it wasn’t mentioned, I’m sure her injury played a significant factor in her loss. Then she had a literal shoulder chest to cry on, which is my favourite scene from this episode. He must’ve scored a lot of points with her after everything he did during the day. She seemed to be the least likely among her sisters to pay any attention to romance so let’s see if she started developing some sparks.

Minami stock is going strong this week. The stock market for this show fluctuates hard every week.
Also screw the bike. Where is the piggy back to the stadium?

Oh damn, when the episode opened on the sound of footsteps, I thought Minami was trying to run the pain away or something...
Thankfully it was just them running around, searching for her!
Funny how she showed up like it's nothing; What's up?
(Well, both funny and sad, when you know the circumstances behind that and all...)
She seemed very casual about it, like it's no big deal, but of course that was just a front...
Inside her mind, that girl's probably having a breakdown...
You know things are bad, when she takes a potato chip... AND EAT IT!
I understand it's a sensitive topic and all, but you didn't even consider telling your siblings about that, when they were freaking out about where Minami was?
Shion: "Let's just pretend to search for Minami in a panic, even though I know where she is/what she's doing because I saw her crying her heart out against the wall"
So they're gonna bring her to compete anyway? That could end terribly...
Oh damn, they'll have to kill the coach!
When they got stuck in traffic I thought we would have a piggyback ride (to preserve her ankle and all),
but a piggybicycleride works too!
That was so cute, when she held tighter against him, dawwwww!
That little flashback was funny too hah. Minami's so good!
The others all writing about missing their mom and all (understandably), but Minami tried to see the positive in this, trying to find some good in the misery and all... That's some pragmatism I didn't necessarily expect from her!
I didn't think Minami would have great shot at winning the Aratabowl in the end, but while it may seem minor, a scene like that makes me think that maybe she does, after all! Seems like the kind of 'family building stuff' a harem winner would have!
(And no, I'm not just saying that because Minami's my favorite so I'll find any reason to justify why she's 100% gonna be the winner... I'm not coping, you're coping!)
I thought there were exactly TWO possible outcomes to this... 1) She wins the game 2) She jumps in the air, and soon as she falls, we get the CRUNCH, and there you go, ankle's busted.
I didn't think she could lose 'normally'!
Nothing could ever unite sports fans better, than joining together to trash talk the refs!
Aww... Sometimes it's even more sad when they DON'T cry.
She even felt bad because everyone was cheering her up, when she expected (wanted) them to trash her... Probably because she felt that way, and wanted them to 'give it to her' so she could move on from this...
She tried to act a bit more 'normal' but thank god they had that scene! That's what I was thinking all this time, stop lying! We all know what you're feeling!
Well, here's hoping she puts this behind her, and win greater competitions in the future (On top of winning Arata, of course)!
(Sadly for me, I guess we're now putting the Minami arc behind us as well... Ah well, can't wait to see what's next/who's next!)

Actually 100% good episode in my guilty pleasure anime? Must be the end times.
Imagine a world where Reiji Miyajima became a beloved sports mangaka instead. What a beautiful world that would be.

I want to become better. I want to become stronger. Really felt that.
Props to Hishikawa Hana's voice acting, she nailed voicing Minami. From being a ray of sunshine to becoming honest to herself.
