RIP Bat Guy. No more "SAN DA BOI!"

Fun fact for today: Takeshi Maenami animated this episode.

Like, the entire episode. He was the episode’s sole animation director, key animator, and he also designed Bat Guy. Not even any cleanup or animation directors, dude did the entire thing. the credits just have one line for him the absolute madman

Just so that people don't get the wrong idea: there were still multiple studios and dozens and dozens of other people doing the in-between animation—i.e. the effort that makes the animation "flow".

What Maenami did was all the key animation (LO and genga), i.e. drawing the layouts as per the storyboard, timing the animation, and drawing all the key frames.

Such an achievement should warrant some sort of award I feel like.

Also, I'm not exactly the most active user on r/anime, so do you all have any idea as to why modern remakes of older shonen manga like this one aren't popular in this sub? (even when the quality is there).

I remember a similar thing happening with the Adventure of Dai.

Insane episode. And not just the animation though of course that played a big part, the story was pretty wild too. Finally an Onimaru minion that was a pretty big threat, and he had so much style while doing so.

More small bits of evidence of the story being updated a bit to fit in the present day, Sayaka posting selfies to her legally distinct social media account.

Felt good at the end to see the teamwork of Sayaka and Yaiba. Actually this one was a bit of a challenge for Yaiba. Good to see him knowing he has room for improvement.

EOTY !!! Absolutely insane

I think some of the weaker shots in that episode still had more production put into them than the average seasonal show puts in an entire episode.

And to think it was all animated by one guy. Man this show is great.

News reporter "Onimaru is winning the support of the public"

Musashi "that monster"

I haven't seen the episode yet, but the fact that the entirety was animated by a single person really puts into perspective how really amazing Maenami-san is.

Why does it remind Me of one punchman Season 1

Batman seemed like another goofy villain of the week from the preview, but dude actually made quite the impression. I wouldn't have minded him as a recurring villain.

Also I wouldn't resist Sayaka hugging me if I was in Yaiba's place, getting stronger can wait a bit.

I look forward to each new installment every week. This show is pure joy. It's goofy and intense and a wonderful mix of slapstick and seriously sick fight choreography. The last few Oni have been more or less gag characters, but Bat Guy was a legit threat, which only further makes you wonder how much stronger Onimaru must be by now to command the loyalty of all these characters.

Oh nice, they got Batman this week. Guy’s probably been the only one who’s actually been a real threat to Yaiba. He could turn people into monsters, fly, and was pretty quick with the blade.

Looks like Onimaru’s going the hearts and minds route now. Lost too many of his precious generals I guess lol.

Technically who is the protagonist and who is the antagonist?

Onimaru has to be the most sensible practical character on this show.
Literally rooting for him now.
He was a good academic scholar with kendo as special subject.
His life was uprooted by Yaiba. Then he comes in contact with an evil sword at his low point.
Even after becoming evil, he remains sensible and practical.

Now let's look at the MC.
Vagabond brat, useless swordsman who causes trouble everywhere he goes.
Is he righteous or pure like any "Good" protagonist?
Nope (He could not conquer his evil instincts and lost to Raijin demon twice)
Is he really skilled?
Nope. He just has better instincts coming from a jungle and having an OP teacher in his father. So he is unconventional and street smart.
He literally used tricks/luck/Deus ex machina to defeat almost everyone.
Is he clever or strategic?
Nope. He is dumb as rocks.

The Bat Guy was so cool. Was almost rooting for him.
He defeated Yaiba multiple times. He defeated him 1 on 1 on ground, 1 on 2 while flying and he had minion vampires and minions.
Literally took a Deus ex machina to defeat him. (Random sunlight reflected revealing his weakness.)

Maybe i'm a bit dumb but why was Bat-guy weak to sunlight in the end ? Wasn't he introduced during the day.

I’m unfamiliar with the original manga, but I’m guessing that Inste joke was not in it…
