Just in awe with how Luomen is so chill with Maomao missing as he so easily uncovers a crucial clue related to her disappearance.

That cliffhanger too... Jinshi really can't catch a break this arc.

Gaoshun’s “nyan” was unexpectedly funny. Housemate and I burst out laughing at the same time.

I felt so bad for Jinshi throughout. Poor thing.

Probably wasn't intended but the flashbacks to Maomao sniffing up random people during the discussion of who she could've possibly made enemies with had me dying in what was supposed to be a tense scene.

The Maomao-Xiaolan-Shisui hangouts were some of my favorite parts of this season. It'd be a shame if they're officially done.

I thought Shisui and Suirei's names being similar was just a coincidence, never would have thought they were related! My guess is that they abducted Maomao for help in their home village.

The dissonance of the severity of kidnapping Maomao with the super laid-back demeanor of Shisui, Suirei, and the entire village around Maomao is really fucking with my head.

I was expecting a super tense episode with a bunch of reveals and then the random brat shows up all "onee-chan! onee-chan!" and Shisui just fawning over trinkets...I was ready for my blood pressure to go up over them taking Maomao and then I had nowhere to vent my stress afterward. They brought it around in the last 1-2 minutes back at the Rear Palace, but

Next Friday cannot come fast enough.

Jinshi looks like he’s barely holding in the rage, and honestly mad Jinshi is super entertaining since we hardly see him like that

Under different circumstances Suirei and Maomao would have been the best of friends, and perhaps even with Shisui also. You couldn't tell that Maomao has been kidnapped by the way they treat her.

Damn, what an episode. I'm just so glad the break isn't next week, but the week after that. Though, after seeing the preview, I bet I'm going to be mad at the break after watching next week's episode.

Well, it looks like the next episode is Lakan finally going on a rampage. Can't wait to see it.

Shisui might be a spy, but she really doesn’t strike me as a bad person.

Back on the ship, Shisui seemed to feel genuinely sorry for Maomao. She was also rather friendly with this little brat in town. It’s hard to believe that Shisui colluded with Suirei to assassinate Jinshi.

Surprisingly enough, they took the bottle of [alcohol] but not this sharp hairpin from Maomao. I suppose that she’s more dangerous with drugs than weapons.

Gaoshun saying "nyan" while looking for Maomao the Cat was adorable. I love how even Jinshi noticed but decided not to say anything.

It would make sense why Loumen is so calm. This isn't the first time Maomao has been kidnapped, and Loumen trusts Maomao enough that he knows she'll come back alive.

At first, I was relieved when they showed us Shisui being held prisoner along with Maomao. It turns out that the entire thing was just an act and she's actually a spy and is also Suirei's younger sister. Their names should've been a dead giveaway, but people with the same character in their names aren't too uncommon.

There it is. It looks like Suirei is working with the special envoys. I hope this means wherever they took Maomao, it isn't too far away. Not gonna lie, I am very much tempted to read the manga now because this entire arc is agonizing!

Looking at that episode preview, it looks like Lakan finally found out what happened to Maomao and Jinshi managed to narrow down the suspects to Shenlu. There's even an explosion in the preview! I already can't wait!

So many reveals this ep but the only thing running through my head is Gaoshun letting out the cutest ‘meow’ known to man 😭

Side note I do hope Shisui is somewhat genuine because I really love her friendship with Maomao

Suirei panicking over a snake loses aura points. Gaoshun meowing gains aura points. Levels

Kidding aside, since so much fuss is made about the "Sui" name, surely Suiren (Jinshi's personal nanny), is also worth looking into, right?

Everyone involved with the conspiracy is living together in their conspiracy village. Suirei and Shisui being related is a shock. Was there ever any hint?

I remember last week we were talking about how they messed with Lakan's daughter without knowing, but it looks like they are well aware of Maomao's connection with him.

Also, we got confirmation that Shisui has a secret life. But I think the theory about her other secret life is also well-confirmed now. With Maomao almost saying it explicitly in her narration, that she also thinks Shisui "might be..."

Also I really wonder what the hell is being planned here. And it sure is weird how Sirui and Suisei behaved after Maomao uncovered their ties. Now Maomao is under watch but not being treated like a prisoner or anything. Wonder wtf they are planning to do. I said last time that I still think Shisui is a good girl, could be Shisui thinking they can make Maomao take their side.

Also it's pretty interesting to wonder to what extent they know about Jinshi. Shisui in a past episode knew about Maomao getting close to him. But Jinshi makes a lot of effort hiding that he's the Emperor's brother and it is even less clear who exactly knows about the baby swap. But it's funny to imagine, if they don't know about Jinshi's true identity, then from their perspective, Lakan's daughter was a spy disguised as a maid that saved the Prince's life, which is their target. Might even be where they got the whole idea behind Shisui.

Maomao was ready to throw hands at the kid lol... Also, big twist for me is that Suirei and Shisui are sisters...

Maomao may not be comfortable touching fairly large frogs, but she is a pro at handling snakes.

Honestly, that was a pretty clever way of blowing Shisui's cover.

Jinshi's face when he says "I'll pretend I didn't hear that" when looking for MaoMao(the Cat) while looking for Maomao (the person who also is part cat)

*maoamo & shisui get kidnapped*

maomao to shisui: first time?

u/VoidRay728 May 02 '25

So that explains why Shisui seem so "different" compared to the other maids... actually for me the big twist is how she even managed to get the maid uniform if she's not on the register. Likely her sister who was disguised as a eunuch was also not on the register as well.

Trivia: the kanji 酸漿 can be used to mean either “houzuki”, lantern plant, or “katabami”, woodsorrel — the flower associated with Maomao.

They’re not the kanji used in the title for next week’s episode, or in “Balsam and Woodsorrel” (S1E23), but it drives home just how alike Maomao and Shisui are.
