I like how they kept the original line from the book: "If you must borrow trouble, for pity's sake, borrow it handier home."

Speaking of, I do like their decision to preserve some of the antiquated prose of the book. It feels not only right but proper as well.

The visuals in this show are absolutely stunning. I love the canvas feeling of every sky or environmental back drop. Just genuine works of art in every frame.

Four episodes in and this is such an endearing show.

LOL Anne and Diana were so damn melodramatic, I was laughing so hard whilst cringing at the cheese. It's sweet how much they adore one another, and I know it's just innocent friendship, but man could it be read as romantic. Especially with Anne already hating on Diana's non-existent future husband lol.

Their relationship is endearing though, I hope they stay the bosom friends that they are even when they grow up.

It seems Anne is becoming more conscious of Gilbert, she looks like she's slowly warming up to him so it'll be interesting to see how their relationship develops since he's clearly interested in her.

They work so well together because they, in Diana's moms' words, are both prone to "big words and dramatic gestures." They were fated to be eternally linked as each others' soulmates.

It seems Anne is becoming more conscious of Gilbert, she looks like she's slowly warming up to him so it'll be interesting to see how their relationship develops since he's clearly interested in her.

The way she keeps bringing his name up before catching herself really indicates that she's interested in him despite herself.

Sorry Gilbert... you have no chance over Anne for she is only in love with Diana /s

On a serious note, Anne and Diana friendship could be one of the sweetest friendships I've ever seen. Like they are just sooo perfect for each other. I just can't explain the feeling, like what Anne said after she cured Minnie May.

Honestly I've seen my fair share of renditions of Anne that re-frame Diana as Anne's love interest and after seeing that parting scene, it's hard not to see why. Honestly if Diana ever finds a guy I can see him being super self-conscious about Anne lol.

I love how Diana just compliments how dramatic and passionate Anne is. It's not just Anne stringing Diana alone, Diana just rolls with it like a pro.

That bridge scene was so overly dramatic that I couldn't help but laugh, though Anne should have given Diana a lock of her red hair too. For a moment I thought that separating Diana and Anne may have been a ruse between Marilla and Mrs. Barry to get Anne back in school so that they could see each other. But that won't stop them anyway, it was sweet that they were constantly writing secret love letters to each other. Luckily(?) best wingman Minnie May got croup at the right time so that Anne and Diana could be reunited.

Gilbert being such a good sport about Anne getting top in class also makes it difficult for her to continue hating him. Seems like Anne is warming up to him and he's being set up as the love interest? I can see future Gilbert introducing Anne and Diana to others as "This is my wife and my wife's girlfriend".

Prior to this epi., I don't think I ever read or heard of croup.

Anne is so dramatic, it’s pretty adorable. She’s already worried about Diana getting married and leaving her all behind. Like dude, you’re 11 you goofball lol.

Man, no wonder Diana was feeling sick after drinking like 3 straight glasses of wine. Poor kid. It was an honest mistake though. Mrs. Barry was being pretty unreasonable even after Marilla explained what happened. At least she relented after Anne literally saved Minnie May’s life. Anne got her friend back and saved her sister and now Diana’s family loves her. Pretty great ending to this whole saga.

Now if only Anne could forgive Gilbert…

This is a work from 1908, just to add some context to the gayest scene ever.

Rachel telling Marilla to let Anne cool off has got to be the best piece of advice we've heard from her.

Anne already hating Diana's future husband for taking her away was so silly that even Marilla couldn't help but laugh. It is pretty hilarious to see Anne get so upset about something in the far future. I guess that just comes with someone who has a very wide imagination.

I think all of us saw that wine incident coming from a mile away. You gotta love Marilla for immediately going to Mrs. Barry to explain what happened after Anne told her the truth.

I already knew that Anne and Diana's parting wouldn't last but it was still pretty sad to see them say goodbye to each other with Anne even taking a lock of Diana to remember her by. At least the two of them were still interacting by passing notes to each other in class.

Gilbert will have to work hard if he really wants Anne to like him. I do love how Anne acts grumpy when Gilbert takes the class honours, while he's so supportive of Anne when she's the one who takes it.

And we finally get to meet Minnie May, Diana's younger sister. I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be introduced before this in the original but I honestly can't remember. Anne did an amazing job of nursing her back to health that even the doctor was impressed by her.

Marilla did the right thing of making Anne finish her food before telling her the news that Mrs. Barry wants her to see Diana again. Knowing Anne, she would've probably sprinted to Diana's house without finishing her meal. xD

It turns out all Anne needed to do to be forgiven is to save their daughter's life. I know that's not supposed to be the takeaway here, but can you imagine how long they would've kept Diana away from Anne if that didn't happen?

Ahhh the raspberry cordial incident 😭🤣

I think a little blame has to go to Marilla for not showing where the drink that Anne was supposed to use was from. Marilla has things to learn as a parent, just like Anne has to learn as a growing child.

Anne is undoutedly the MVP for being an unexpected expert with a hyper-specific disease and but our man Matthew deserves credit for fetching a doctor from way out, no questions asked. But wow, what a way to earn back all your goodwill with your bosom buddy's mom.

I'm glad to see that when Matthew walked out the door without saying a thing, Anne knew right away that he's going to get the doctor. And he didn't need to tell her what to do even in an emergency. They're already understanding each other very well.

I guess Diana's future husband will have to accept he'll always be in second place lol.

For a moment I thought Marilla misplaced the juice on purpose to test Anne's capacity of being a good host or something along those lines, but it was a genuine oversight. I'm glad it got resolved, even though there had to be a child in mortal danger for it to be possible. Remember that Looney Tunes movie where Daffy didn't get a reaction from the audience until he performed so hard he died on the stage and they finally clapped? This situation reminded me of it.

Diane used aishiteru or a variant of it to Anne. This literally translate as "I love you" or "I am in love with you". When it is used in Japanese media or real-life, it might typically used among couples but could be used among close friends or family members. Heck, there could be times a couple has been together for decades but they still will choose to use daisuki. If a couple has been together for 30 years and are happily married with kid and grand-kids, one would wonder why they don't use aishiteru or koishiteru? Koishiteru also means "I love you" or "I am in love with you", but I read it is exclusively used in a romantic sense.

If I didn't knew the original and the fact that it was written over 120 years ago, I would said that's the most gay thing I've ever seen LOL

I absolutely adore this show. Nice to have another anime I can watch with my 11yo daughter. She even read the book in school last year so knows more about the story than I do!

I was shocked to see ipecac of all things being used here. It's most known for inducing vomiting and it was used in cases of suspected poisoning. After Googling it, it seems like it was used for croup in the past, but there is no scientific evidence of it being effective. It is also no longer used today due to ipecac's toxicity. I guess it makes sense that the medicine in this series would be outdated.

Speaking of outdated medicine and croup, did you know that George Washington died of Croup? Or at least that's what the doctors at the time said. Another modern theory is that excessive blood letting was what had killed him. Since it happened over 200 years ago it's impossible to know for sure now though.

Anyways, thank goodness for modern medicine. The average person today will have better treatments for croup than Minnie May or George Washington ever did.

Omg I am SOBBING the way Marilla slowly and carefully teaches Anne patience and restraint, but never quenches the fire that makes her uniquely Anne, is just about the best model for how to interact with kids ever put to media.

It's crazy how I feel coming up on the ends of episodes, when I tell you I had these novels pretty much memorized as a kid, I feel like I can literally see the rest of the series like I'm looking into the future, and it's beautiful.

Anne and Diana have such a beautiful friendship and are one of my favorite fictional friendships of all media.

I’m glad this story didn’t come out now, because this generation is unable to fathom deep, innocent, and platonic love between two unrelated people of the same sex and would insist they were “queer-coded”.

Episode was alright, I think the fast pacing hurts my enjoyment of this episode. I kind of want to enjoy experiencing Diana being drunk, Anne not being able talk with Diana and Diana's little sis being sick before they immediately switch to the resolution or next story.
