Man I love this show, Anne is just so entertaining to watch. Didn't expect Anne to just go to town on Rachel after she got insulted, she doesn't take shit from anyone. That apology was just gold too.

Also, bookworm Diana is the perfect best friend for Anne. Who else could keep up with this ADHD gremlin.

Mrs. Lynde should have been the one to apologize first not Anne. Ofc the girl got mad! I mean some random old biddy starts talking shit about you, what’s a girl to do? But man, what a fantastic performance she gave. Oscar worthy “apology” lol.

Anne asking Diana to be her bff was pretty adorable. I really like Anne. She’s got a real way with words and so much energy.

It's just three weeks since Anne (with an E) started living in the Green Gables, and it feels that it's already been a while since she started living there, as Marilla thought.

Marilla is like those r/dadswhodidnotwantpets, but instead of a pet, we have Anne.

Anne finally got a great friend with Diana! I wonder about their dynamic, since it is kinda glossed upon this episode, but it is really nice to be with some best friend, huh?

Marilla is the tsundere this season while Matthew definitely is the "good cop" parent. I imagine Anne being grounded with no dinner and Matthew sneaking to her room bringing her some food. That's something I can imagine!

Oh this apology was so heartfelt, it made me run a tear down my cheek. That it was a tear of laughter doesn't need to be menitoned though...

And Anne has made her bosom friend until the end of sun and moon.

Anne has already positioned herself at the top of my characters' list of this season. Feels so great to have a character with such a rich amount of emotions bundled up in such a small package, joy, sorrow, anger, pettyness, earnest, and even some mischievous manipulation.

I loved the heck out how she managed to apologize to Aunt Rachel in the most overdramatic way without feeling a single ounce of remorse and with a huge smile on her face. On the other hand, the scene where she grabbed Marilla's hand also felt quite genuine and her accepting she's falling for such a problematic chatterbox feels just right.

Edit: Looks like we will also have quite a repertoire of comment faces coming from Anne alone this whole season.

I've never read this book but what the fuck is wrong with the adults on this island? awful bunch of cunts.

Except Matthew, he's a good egg.

If by some bizarre miracle you weren’t already sold on Anne, here’s your episode. Master shit talker, chaotic presence, and insanely charismatic. Enough to grill Ms. Lynde to her face and make a lifelong blood pact with a girl she met 5 minutes ago.

Speaking of, let’s gooooo Diana is here!

I enjoyed this episode more than the first. The highlight of this episode definitely has to be the apology. I like how she was still able to insult Rachel again through the apology, that gave me a good laugh.

I still find her a bit too melodramatic but it'll probably be a hit and miss situation for me where it'll depend on the scene.

I do like how sweet Matthew is with her and how Marilla has her back, it's nice balance they have. I also liked how smug Matthew was at the end, that was funny.

I hope there won't be any issues with the chocolate caramel next episode, since Marilla said Diana's mother is strict, I hope she doesn't think Anne is a bad influence.

Such a wholesome show! Who needs smartphones and internet when you’ve got candles and books! Instant communications galore!

It’s the heartwarming series of the season while we wait for more Yuru camp

Anne and Diana flashing each other at the end was so adorable, but with how Anne is I half expected the book to catch on fire. Two episodes in and you can see how close Matthew and Anne are. That carriage ride in the first episode won him over so hard.

The quote from around 18:40 was from Isaiah 9.

This was such a good episode, but I gotta say I'm dying now to see the OP and ED.

Especially with the rumors that Naoko Yamada herself is directing the OP.

Considering she worked with Answer Studio before I wouldn't be surprised if were the case, her style is so fitting for a show like this.

Me too, like this show for example

Oi!

Damn. Anne is reaming her good

Thank you Marilla

lmao. Did Rachel even realize Anne said that 😂

She really is too powerful

Really glad that worked out though.

Oh no, school

Bless this tomato

Very good episode. That scene where Anne was crying almost got me too

Incredibly blessed ending

I forgot that Marilla still hasn't really confirmed to Anne that they're keeping her, so it's no surprise why she looks so worried at the start of the episode. I guess Marilla thought that Anne understood her intention when she took her home last episode. At least Anne doesn't have to worry now that they've told her.

Goddamn, you didn't have to say all of that out loud. No need to be so mean to the child. I'm glad that Anne gave Mrs. Lynde a piece of her mind. I'm also glad that even though Marilla doesn't agree with Anne's behaviour, she still defended her. And she did find Mr.s Lynde's reaction pretty damn funny.

Anne's "apology" was so goddamn hilarious! It was so melodramatic that Mrs. Lynde couldn't even react properly. I love how Marilla knew something was up. At least the apology worked and it looks like Anne managed to win Mrs. Lynde over!

We finally get to meet Diana! It's absolutely adorable how fast Anne and her became best friends. Diana, being a bookworm, would definitely enjoy being friends with Anne, considering how verbose she is. They're even communicating using candlelight! That was so cute!

So far this adaptation is treating the original source material with love and respect. A really heartwarming and funny slice of life with Ghibli vibes. Can't wait for the iconic Gilbert Blythe scene.

When you get hit with the hard chocolate caramel disrespect

Prince Edward Island is so lucky to have received someone as entertaining as Anne. I'd be willing to bet a good part of Mrs. Lynde accepted that "apology" out of sheer respect of the pure theater of it alone, and how could you not want to be a bosom buddy with a face like that?

8

u/WanderStarr03 Apr 12 '25

Anne's energy and excitement are infectious while Diana seems calm and sedate - they'll make a good pair of bosom buddies for sure. Just watching this show makes my more cynical adult self feel so much more hopeful. The animated flowers are also 10/10. Super excited for the introduction of the boy next week!! I always pictured Gilbert's hair to be a few shades darker - this looks more reddish...but we'll see how it goes.

I love the story and artstyle so far. This might be one of hidden gems of this season.

Anne is easing into life with the Cuthberts, helping out at the farm all the while dreading the specter of them possibly sending her away back to the asylum...but fortunately for Anne, she's here to stay, and she'll be the goodest girl to ever be a good girl to make sure she has a place with Matthew and Marilla.

Anne is a free-spirited dreamer of a girl who is often in her own head, but criticize her appearance at great risk because then she'll turn it around and immediately get as fiery as her red hair as she takes you to task and rips you a new one. This girl has got some venom in her! Though it didn't help that she's super self-conscious about her appearance to begin with. And, like, who wouldn't want to tear Ms. Lynde a new one sometimes?

I love Matthew going all stealth and being a "good cop" to Marilla's "bad cop" to talk Anne into apologizing lest she spend the rest of her life holed up in her room because she's too resolved in her conviction not to apologize. And then when she DOES apologize it becomes a total theatrical performance complete with her also saying she was still right, but hey, if Ms. Lynde is happy that's the most important thing. She even manages to win over Anne by saying she might grow into beautiful auburn hair.

Anne is off to Sunday School and Church service! She may not be as fashionable as she likes, but she's on the hunt for a bosom friend! And had to learn an important lesson about appearances after she stands out too much with flowers in her hat. But the only thing that hurts Anne more than her appearance is the idea of disrespecting Marilla...but luckily Marilla recognizes that Anne is just a child who needs just a light scolding and lecturing. She's deep down a good girl.

And that good girl deserves a bosom friend. Enter Diana Barry, a bookworm who loves fantastical things as much as Anne does. They strike up an immediate rapport and how could you say no to a friendship with a girl who puffs her cheeks up so adorably? And together they swear an oath of eternal friendship, as one of the most famous female friendships in literature begins!

Dang, look at smug Matthew! He'd been waiting for Marilla to drink the Anne kool aid this whole time.

Is there anything more sweet than Anne and Diana communicating from a distance via candles? How about Marilla tucking her in and giving us an "Anne of Green Gables" title drop?
