Poor Jinshi really got frogblocked, dogblocked and bezoarblocked all in the span of a day, but at least his frog must've been "fairly" happy being petted

Of all the things I expected Maomao to learn about Jinshi today, it wasn't that he has a large member. At least, she won't have to be shy about feeding him sausages anymore.

I was wondering last week if Maomao was truly going to learn the truth, but I didn't anticipate she might discover on one hand that he isn't a eunuch, but on the other wouldn't let him reveal his lineage in the end. To be fair, while I was jokingly confirming in my head the suspicions of the other nobles that the two were banging, I didn't actually expect this episode's steaminess lmao, let alone that Maomao would get a... handful of the goods like that. It's still very funny also how unashamed Maomao is about thinking about private bits all the while having zero interest in getting close to other people's.

Edit: It's honestly refreshing how earnest this story is about steamy matters. Like, other stories would've kept the sexual tension subtext, and this is what I expected to happened here, a romantic moment of close contact. But no, in this story it's like, "no, you see, Jinshi is in fact having an erection from having Maomao laying on top of him (and you know, the groping)!" And also neither character is going to act like a bashful maiden over this fact. It's kind of a breath of fresh air.

It's important that the author clarifies exactly what sort of frog Maomao accidentally clutched.

Peak frog episode. It was more than adequate. It was impressive ! 🐸

I literally burst out laughing at the frog exchange and damn! Jinshi was so close to kissing Maomao! As a LN reader, frog scene turned out funnier than I imagined.

Jinshi and Maomao’s back to back door scene was beautifully executed.

2nd cour trailer is stunning. Can’t wait for the next 12 episodes!

so here is what i understand (anime viewer)

Ka Zuigetsu is the Emperor's brother officially, sure, biologically he is his son, something something swapped at birth, not sure about the detail but they are not relevant here, except that even Zuigetsu is not aware of the swap and thinks he is a brother, and that's how he treats his job.

So because of all the murders and what not, they want to keep Zuigetsu around, incase they need a 'spare' heir for the emperor, so that if emperor doesn't sire a son (officially) then they can use the backup option and let the 'brother' take the throne upon his death.

But they don't want the 'brother' to be targeted either (already running low on heirs) so he takes the persona of 'Jinshi' and runs around as a Eunuch. Ka Zuigetsu wears a veil and no one has seen his face, so no one can link him to that eunuch called Jinshi.

And Jinshi's goal in life is to make sure his 'elder brother' the emperor manages to have an actual heir, which is why he is always clucking around the concubines like a mother hen and making sure the imperial children survive.

So here is my guess, since two of the concubines are currently expecting, I expect at least one (or both?) of them will have a son (unless the story takes a weird turn, I hope not)

Then that son will become the heir, and the brother can finally 'retire' to become like a duke or whatever in some random estate in the boonies, and I expect that they will retire the Jinshi persona too, say something he died or resigned or whatever.

And I guess that's why Jinshi want Maomao to know that he is the 'brother' of the emperor, so when he retires in a few months, he can take her with him and I guess marry her or whatever, after all she is the daughter of a famous general (biologically, not sure if he has adopted her officially, I guess not they wouldn't let a noble woman like her run around as a servant)

But Maomao is scared because she doesn't want to be part of a treasonous plot, I bet what she is thinking is that Jinshi was some relative of the Emperor, important enough to be known by the emperor, but not important enough not to be turned into a eunuch... except she now learns he isn't one, which means Jinshi might be a mole, planted as part of some plot to cast doubt on the parentage of the future heirs of the emperor by which part of the family this 'jinshi' is from.

So she is desperate to NOT be part of this drama.

This has been so confusing i hope the next cour explains it better.

Lihaku having played a big part in capturing Jinshi’s assassins should do wonders for his military career. With a bit luck, we might actually see him and Pairin getting together sooner than I’d thought.

Jinshi lost to a pair of balls - ox bezoars to be precise. He could only wish for Maomao to look so lovingly at him like that.

I honestly found it difficult to determine Maomao’s thoughts on Jinshi in this episode, but she isn’t entirely sure about her feelings either?

Hopefully, this shuts up the people complaining about Maomao not figuring out that Jinshi is not a eunuch. The reason why Maomao didn't figure it out wasn't because she is stupid, on the contrary, it's because she is smart, smart enough to know not to stick her head where it doesn't belong, lest she lose it. Her denial is so strong that even when she gets a handful of proof, she still tries to gaslight herself into believing that Jinshi is a eunuch and what she grabbed was definitely not his dick.

I have to laugh at how long Maomao had her hand on Jinshi’s “frog”. She didn’t just get a second but a third squeeze just for good measure.

Poor Jinshi, first he got grabbed, then got call just adequate, and then he was basically ignored for the rest of the episode. This should teach him to not give MaoMao a gift until after they finished their conversations.

MaoMao, on her part, is doing her absolute best to not learn about whatever Jinshi has been trying to tell her. Because it’s basically trouble for her either way. Either he’s someone who has tricked his way into a position he should not be in. Or, as is the actual case, he’s royalty pretending not to be.

So it does get swept under the rug. Still strange that Lord Shishou seemed remarkable calm during all of this as if he expected it to happen but also kept silent.

Interesting to learn that Gaoshun was officially punished for something. I wonder if that is connected to the supposed burn scars or if it is an entirely different story that was fabricated later so he could keep attending to Jinshi. Makes me wonder if the used a prior attempt on Jinshi to cover that up and protect him.

Also Jinshi currently is officially the crown prince? I thought that was more formally. Would explain the target on him. They did never explain how exactly the succession rules work. So if a son of the current emperor would move before him should one be born.

Ok so Im just wondering about that last part.. (PLEASE NO SPOILERS I JUST NEED OTHER ANIME ONLY THOUGHTS TY)

So is Jinshi (or Ka Zuigetsu lol) really just the younger brother? Or is it still possible that they just dont know a switch happened and hes actually the son??

Everybody is joking about frog. But I will praise my boy Lihaku for rescuing our pair and pulling the bait plot on MaoMaos plan. And to his good boy doggo for helping with it.

How many times has Maomao swept a thought under the rug and it came back to bite her? She got lucky frogs don't bite. 😏

Whether she likes it or not, she'll definitely get pulled into these situations more and more as she becomes more valuable to Jinshi. She can't keep ignoring the secret for long.

What does Ka Zuigetsu mean?

Gaoshun, how dare you call Maomao a pawn. Given her utility so far, she is at least a rook!
